Why the stream-key field may be missing
OBS supports both a connected-account workflow and manual stream-key controls. When OBS is connected to YouTube through account integration, it may handle stream selection internally, so a manual key box is not displayed. OBS forum users report that disconnecting the account made the field appear, but that community observation does not establish the cause in every case. OBS community discussion and OBS Studio source code reflect the two workflows.
The normal YouTube encoder setup uses a stream URL and key in the streaming software. YouTube describes a stream key as a credential that tells the encoder where to send its feed and allows YouTube to accept it. YouTube’s encoder setup guidance and stream settings help explain the workflow. This interface issue is not established as specific to Windows in India; check the labels shown in your installed OBS version.
Make the manual stream-key field appear
- Open OBS stream settings. In OBS Studio, go to Settings > Stream. Confirm that YouTube is selected as the service or destination.
- Check the connection mode. If OBS shows that a YouTube account is connected and there is no key box, disconnect the account. Alternatively, select Use Stream Key (advanced) if that control is available in your version. The wording and location can vary with the installed version.
- Copy the intended key from YouTube Studio. In a browser, open YouTube Studio, choose Go Live, then select the Stream tab in Live Control Room. Copy the key for the stream you intend to run. Treat it like a password: anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to that stream.
- Enter the key in OBS. Paste it into the Stream Key field. Confirm the service and server settings are appropriate for YouTube, then apply the settings. YouTube’s encoder workflow uses the stream URL and key in the encoder settings.
- Test the incoming feed before going live. Start streaming from OBS and wait for the incoming stream or preview to appear in YouTube Live Control Room. Check that the correct feed is arriving before clicking Go live. YouTube recommends testing the setup and recommends RTMPS.
Choose between account connection and a manual key

If the field is still missing or the stream will not connect
The key box remains hidden
- Recheck Settings > Stream and make sure YouTube is the selected service.
- Look for a connected-account status and disconnect it if you want to switch to manual entry.
- Check for Use Stream Key (advanced); its availability and label may depend on your OBS version.
- Do not assume the installation is damaged or that an India-specific account restriction is responsible. The sources do not establish either cause for this symptom.
You entered a key but YouTube receives no feed
- Verify that you copied the key for the intended stream in Live Control Room and pasted it accurately.
- Check OBS’s YouTube service or server selection and confirm that the stream is active in OBS.
- Wait for the incoming feed to appear in Live Control Room before clicking Go live; test the setup ahead of an event.
- YouTube recommends RTMPS. If you are configuring a server or URL manually, use the appropriate YouTube encoder settings rather than substituting an unrelated destination.
An encoder error persists or the key may be exposed
YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance says to obtain a key in Live Control Room and update the encoder. If you use OBS’s account sign-in integration rather than a manual key and the login path fails, YouTube directs users to the third-party software’s support. Reset a key only if it may be compromised or you need a fresh one: the owner or manager can reset it from Live Control Room’s Stream tab, and the encoder must then be updated with the new key.
