While you’re broadcasting, check performance and stream health in YouTube’s Live Control Room. After the stream ends, open YouTube Studio > Content > Live, select the stream, then choose Analytics > Engagement to review its concurrent-viewer report. Studio labels can vary as YouTube rolls out interface updates.
Check analytics while a stream is live
- Open Live Control Room for the active broadcast in YouTube Studio.
- Check stream status for health information or errors. Use this view to monitor the broadcast as it happens.
- Review the available real-time cards. On a computer, YouTube lists concurrent viewers, duration, likes, chat rate, views, and estimated average view duration. Which cards are available depends on how the stream was started.
Live Control Room is for real-time monitoring. Its figures are provisional and may not match the processed analytics report available after the stream.
Find a stream’s analytics after it ends
- In YouTube Studio, go to Content > Live. Menu names or placement may vary while Studio’s interface changes roll out.
- Select the ended stream.
- Open Analytics, then choose Engagement.
- Review the video-level concurrent-viewer report. YouTube says it is generally available within minutes after the stream ends; the report also describes live-chat messages.
Use channel and content reports for more context
YouTube Analytics supports Live, On demand, and Live & on demand filters. Depending on the report and available data, you can examine watch time, audience retention, demographics, playback locations, traffic sources, and devices. Content and Live reporting also describes how viewers found live streams, along with peak and average concurrent viewers.
For expanded reports, comparisons, and export options, open Advanced Mode. YouTube’s general Studio guide says an interface update is rolling out gradually beginning July 2026, so not every creator will see identical menus.

Understand the main live-stream metrics
Concurrent viewers
Concurrent viewers are people watching at the same time. Peak concurrent viewers is the highest simultaneous audience during the stream; average concurrent viewers describes the average simultaneous audience. Peak is a high-water mark, not a typical audience measure. Read it alongside the average and watch time rather than treating it as a standalone verdict.
Views, view duration, and watch time
Views indicate viewing volume, while average view duration and total watch time add information about time spent watching. Consider these together with audience retention and traffic sources: they help describe how viewers arrived and how long the stream held their attention.

Chat activity
Live Control Room may show chat rate, and the post-stream report may show chat messages. These are message measures, not counts of unique people who participated.
Why live and post-stream totals can differ
YouTube Analytics is keyed to the video ID, and its data is processed and despammed. It measures different information from Live Control Room, so the two views need not match. Use the live dashboard for monitoring and the processed Studio report for post-stream analysis.

Compare streams fairly
Compare like with like: keep the reporting level and date range consistent, and do not mix channel-level data with video-level results. For each stream, consider these measures together:
- Average and peak concurrent viewers
- Watch time and average view duration
- Audience retention
- Chat activity
- Traffic sources
Also account for stream duration and format. A longer event has more time to accumulate viewing, and a combined horizontal-and-vertical stream may report both formats together. YouTube’s documentation does not establish a universal “good” benchmark for these figures; judge results against your own channel, format, and comparable events.

Separate vertical-stream metrics in a dual-format broadcast
When a creator streams both horizontal and vertical formats, Live Control Room combines metrics. To inspect the vertical stream separately, YouTube’s instructions are:
- Wait at least 24 hours after the stream ends.
- Open the ended stream in Studio and choose Analytics > Advanced Mode.
- Set Playback location as the breakdown.
- Choose a reporting period longer than the first 24 hours.
- Select Vertical live feed.
Plan timing with channel audience data
The Audience tab’s When your viewers are on YouTube report looks at the last 28 days and can help you plan when to schedule a future stream. It is channel-wide audience context, not a substitute for the results of an individual broadcast. Audience and demographic data may be limited.
