To livestream a rental apartment walkthrough on YouTube, confirm your channel can go live, get the appropriate permission to film, plan a room-by-room route, test your phone and connection, and choose the stream’s visibility deliberately. A phone is usually the most practical setup for a moving tour; an unlisted test lets you check picture and sound before viewers arrive.
Before you livestream: check eligibility and permission
Confirm your YouTube channel is eligible
YouTube Help’s current guidance, checked in 2026, says a channel must be verified and have had no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube also says streamers must be at least 16. Mobile live streaming has additional requirements: at least 50 subscribers, verification, no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days, and live streaming enabled. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours. Check YouTube’s current overview of live streaming and mobile live-streaming requirements before scheduling, since eligibility and screens may change.
Get permission and plan for the people in the space
Before filming, check with the property owner or an authorized manager and review any relevant lease terms and local requirements. Arrange a time that avoids filming occupants or visitors where possible; ask for consent from anyone who may be identifiable. The applicable rules depend on location, tenancy, and circumstances, so platform privacy settings alone do not establish permission to film.
Choose a broadcast method for a moving tour
| Method | When it fits | Trade-off |
|---|---|---|
| Mobile phone | A room-to-room walkthrough where the host needs to move with the camera. | Requires a supported, eligible channel and a reliable mobile or Wi-Fi connection. |
| Webcam | A stationary introduction or presentation from a computer. | Less convenient for showing multiple rooms while walking. |
| Encoder setup | A production that needs additional equipment or overlays. | Requires more setup; YouTube lists encoder streaming as an option but does not endorse a specific encoder here. |
YouTube lists mobile, webcam, encoder, and console streaming among its methods. For a handheld apartment tour, mobile is the straightforward choice; use another method only if it suits the production better.

Plan the route and what viewers need to see
Start at a sensible entry point and decide the order of rooms before going live. Note the practical details viewers came to assess: layout, storage, appliances, and any limitations that should be disclosed. A loose plan helps reduce pauses, while a slow, stable camera movement gives viewers time to understand each space.
- Keep the route short enough to complete without rushing.
- Decide where to pause for a wide view and where a closer look is useful.
- Use a phone tripod or selfie stick if it helps reduce camera shake, as YouTube recommends.
- Consider an external microphone for clearer narration in a noisy environment; check that it works with your phone.
Prepare and test your phone, audio, and connection
- Prepare the phone: Charge it, enable Do Not Disturb, choose portrait or landscape orientation for the tour, and lock rotation so the image does not unexpectedly turn as you move. A portable phone battery pack can help during a longer session; check its connector and charging compatibility.
- Check the location’s connection: Test the mobile signal or Wi-Fi upload capacity along the route, not just where you plan to begin. YouTube advises having sufficient upload bandwidth for the selected stream bitrate with room to spare. Shared networks can leave less capacity available to your stream.
- Check the sound and light: Speak near the phone microphone, choose a quiet route where possible, and check how the rooms look on camera. In a loud environment, YouTube suggests considering an external microphone.
- Run an unlisted test stream: Check that the picture is clear, narration is audible, and the connection holds as you move between rooms. Confirm the framing and orientation on another device if available.
YouTube’s live-streaming tips cover bandwidth, planning, and ways to reduce camera shake. Do not treat a speed test at one spot as proof the connection will hold throughout the apartment.

Create the event and choose visibility
- In the YouTube mobile app, start or schedule a mobile live stream. Mobile streams can be scheduled, according to YouTube.
- Enter clear event details so viewers know what the walkthrough covers.
- Choose the audience and visibility settings deliberately. YouTube offers public, unlisted, and private options; check the current controls in the app before publishing.
- Decide how to handle chat. If the stream may attract questions or unwanted messages, arrange for a trusted moderator and be ready to remove inappropriate messages or users.
An unlisted stream is not the same as a private one: people with its link may be able to view it. Share access according to the setting you choose, and do not rely on visibility controls to protect information that appears in the video. YouTube advises caution with personal information during live streams and chat and requires livestream content to follow its Community Guidelines and Terms of Service.
Inspect the frame, then conduct the walkthrough
Before starting, look around the full camera view, including reflections and background details. Remove or conceal anything the host does not intend to show, such as documents, mail, keys, screens, faces, house numbers, or revealing street views. Keep the camera on the property features being discussed rather than lingering on private possessions.

Or let it run in the cloud
A live apartment tour needs a camera moving through the space, so StreamNeo is not a substitute for that live, on-location walkthrough: it streams uploaded videos to YouTube. If you want to keep a prepared recording running continuously instead, the workflow is to upload the video, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. StreamNeo loops the uploaded video from the cloud, so no computer or home connection has to stay on; it can recover automatically if YouTube drops the stream. Any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps streams as made at one flat price per slot, with no re-encode or quality tiers. The first day is free with no card, and the monthly option is $9.99 per month.
