Streamlabs’ AI game-highlighting feature is now called Replay; it was formerly Streamlabs Highlighter. To capture clips automatically, enable Auto Record in Replay, install the Recorder Extension if prompted, and launch a supported game. For manual clipping in Streamlabs Desktop, open Highlighter, set a hotkey and replay duration, then press the hotkey during your stream. Afterward, edit and export your clips.
Choose automatic Replay or manual Highlighter
The two documented workflows suit different needs. Replay automatically identifies gameplay events, but only for games on Streamlabs’ supported list. Streamlabs Desktop’s Highlighter workflow lets you choose when to save a moment by pressing a hotkey. Menu names and availability can vary by app version, so use the labels shown in your installed build.

Streamlabs describes Replay as free. Its official product page lists Windows 10+ and macOS 12+ for Streamlabs Desktop; check the current download page for requirements that apply to your version. Streamlabs Highlighter / Replay product page
Set up automatic capture with Replay
- Download and install Replay, then open it.
- Accept the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy when prompted.
- Enable Auto Record during first-run setup.
- If Replay prompts you to install the Recorder Extension, complete that installation, then choose Activate Auto Record.
- Launch a supported game and play. Replay records in the background and logs detected gameplay highlights for review later.
- When you finish playing, return to Replay to review and edit the captured moments.
Streamlabs says its automatic detection can identify events such as kills or eliminations, deaths, victories, and defeats. Detection depends on the game: check Streamlabs’ current supported-game list before relying on automatic highlights for a particular title. The list includes games such as Fortnite, League of Legends, Counter-Strike 2, and Valorant, and Streamlabs says it is expanding. See Streamlabs’ supported games

Capture clips manually in Streamlabs Desktop
- Open the Highlighter tab from the left navigation panel in Streamlabs Desktop.
- Set the hotkey you will use to save a clip and choose the replay duration—the clip length captured when you press the hotkey.
- Go live, then press the hotkey when you reach a moment you want to keep.
- After the stream, return to Highlighter to find the clips.

Edit, preview, and export your highlights
Once clips are available in Highlighter or Replay, shape them into a finished video before sharing:

- Trim clips by adjusting their edges; reorder them, include or disable individual clips, or delete clips you do not want.
- In the Desktop Highlighter workflow, adjust transitions and their length, and add an intro, outro, or background music if useful.
- Replay’s guide also describes importing past footage or clips, adding subtitles and music, and editing for horizontal or vertical formats.
- Preview the compilation and make any final changes before exporting.
- In Streamlabs Desktop Highlighter, select Export, choose the export settings, then upload the downloaded reel to your preferred social platform.
Replay’s guide names YouTube, Discord, and a phone as sharing destinations. Availability can change, so check the current app before planning around a specific destination. Streamlabs guide to using Replay
If automatic capture does not work for your game
First check Streamlabs’ current supported-game list. Automatic event detection is game-dependent and should not be assumed to work for every title. If your game is not listed, or you would rather choose moments yourself, use the documented Streamlabs Desktop Highlighter hotkey workflow instead. The two workflows have separate setup steps; do not assume Auto Record and Desktop Highlighter use the same capture controls.
