Best Budget Capture Cards Under $150: What to Check Before You Buy

AVerMedia’s 2026 guide places the StreamLine MINI+ below $100 for 1080p60 capture and the portable Elite Go in the $100–$150 tier. Check live pricing and capture-versus-passthrough specs before buying.

For basic 1080p60 console capture, AVerMedia’s StreamLine MINI+ (GC311G2) is a sensible first model to investigate: AVerMedia’s April 27, 2026 beginner guide places it below $100. For a portable setup in the $100–$150 tier, the same guide points to the AVerMedia Elite Go (GC313Pro). Those are published budget tiers, not verified live prices; check the exact model, current specifications, stock, and final checkout total before buying.

What a capture card does—and what it does not do

A capture card takes video and audio from a source such as a console and sends them to a computer, where software can record or stream them. In Elgato’s description, it can let you record, stream live, or do both at once. A common setup is console → capture card → computer running streaming or recording software.

Capture and passthrough describe different outputs. Capture is the signal the computer receives and records or streams. Passthrough is the signal sent onward to a display so you can play while capturing. A card’s maximum passthrough resolution or refresh rate does not establish its maximum capture quality.

Shortlist: budget candidates worth checking

No live retail prices were verified for this shortlist. A price shown in an older guide, or a product placed in a budget tier by its manufacturer, cannot confirm that the item is currently available under $150. Treat the AVerMedia tiers below as dated manufacturer guidance and the other named models as leads to verify, not as present-day deals.

Model What the cited source supports How to approach it
AVerMedia StreamLine MINI+ (GC311G2) AVerMedia’s April 27, 2026 guide places it below $100 for 1080p60 capture. First candidate for straightforward 1080p60 console capture. Verify current price and that its connection and software work with your computer.
AVerMedia Elite Go (GC313Pro) AVerMedia’s April 27, 2026 guide places it in the $100–$150 tier and highlights portability. Consider if a portable setup matters. Confirm the exact capture and passthrough modes on the current specifications page before deciding.
AVerMedia Live Gamer Mini (GC311) Streamlabs’ older guide names it as a compact/travel option and lists a historical price. Check whether this exact model is still sold and confirm its current capabilities and support.
EVGA XR1 Lite Streamlabs’ older guide names it and gives a historical starting-price listing. Availability and current support need particular attention; verify with the manufacturer and seller.
NZXT Signal HD60 Named in Streamlabs’ older guide with a historical price listing. Check current stock, price, and official compatibility information.
Razer Ripsaw X Named in Streamlabs’ older guide with a historical price listing. Verify the exact model and its current capture modes before purchase.
Mirabox HDMI Video Capture Card Streamlabs’ older guide gives a generic product name and historical 1080p/30fps detail. Because the name is generic, match the seller listing to an exact model and current specification sheet. Do not assume a listing with a similar name is the same device.

Streamlabs cautions that its listed capture-card prices reflect the time of publishing or editing and can change with market demand. Its older guide also names Elgato HD60 X, but the cited historical listing was above this article’s budget; consider it only if you verify a current price below $150. AVerMedia Live Gamer Extreme 3 (GC551G2) is a useful near-budget example, not a sub-$150 pick on the cited evidence: GamesRadar+ describes 4K30 capture, 4K60 HDR passthrough, SDR capture, and a listed price above $150.

Choose by capture quality, not the biggest number on the box

For a 1080p60 stream or recording

If your finished video will be 1080p at 60 frames per second, the StreamLine MINI+ is a plausible entry-level candidate based on AVerMedia’s published tier. Check that the exact capture mode you want is supported by the card, your computer, and your recording or streaming application. A card cannot make a source deliver a higher-quality signal than the console or PC outputs.

For 4K, HDR, or high-refresh passthrough

Read the specifications as separate capture and passthrough rows. For example, the cited Live Gamer Extreme 3 coverage distinguishes 4K30 capture from 4K60 HDR passthrough and says capture is SDR only. That means the display may receive a different mode from the one the computer records. Do not infer 4K60 recording, HDR capture, or VRR support from a passthrough claim.

HDR and variable refresh rate (VRR) also need end-to-end verification: source device, capture card, computer/software path, and display must support the particular mode together. Confirm the exact resolution and frame-rate combination on the manufacturer’s current specification page; support can differ between capture and passthrough and by operating system or software.

Check the complete setup before ordering

  • Source and compatibility: Confirm support for your console or PC, including the exact generation or model where the manufacturer distinguishes them.
  • Computer connection: Match the card’s interface and cable to an available port on your computer. A USB-C connector alone does not establish the required USB speed.
  • Operating system and software: Verify the current OS requirements and that your preferred capture or streaming application is supported. Elgato’s 4K X page, for example, lists USB-C 3.2 Gen 2, compatibility across several console, PC, Mac, and mobile sources, and apps including OBS; that is lineup context, not evidence that the 4K X is under $150.
  • Signal path: Check whether the card provides the passthrough mode your monitor needs while separately confirming the capture mode your audience or archive needs.
  • Purchase terms: Check seller stock, delivery charges, tax, warranty, and return window. A listing price alone may not leave the complete purchase within the $150 ceiling.

How to compare listings without being misled

  1. Match the model number. Compare the listing with the manufacturer’s model name and identifier, not just a similar product title.
  2. Open the current manufacturer specification page. Record maximum capture resolution and frame rate separately from passthrough; check HDR and VRR for each path.
  3. Check the source-to-computer chain. Confirm source compatibility, interface speed, operating system, and software support for your setup.
  4. Verify the final price and availability. Check the retailer immediately before purchase, including shipping and tax, and make sure the product is actually in stock.
  5. Compare the return and warranty terms. This matters especially for older or generic listings where current support and exact product identity may be unclear.

Recording or streaming does not require a capture card in every setup

A capture card is useful when you need to bring a console’s HDMI video and audio into a computer. If your goal is instead to keep prerecorded videos playing as a YouTube livestream around the clock, that is a different problem: it does not call for a console capture card. StreamNeo is a cloud service for looping uploaded videos on YouTube, not for capturing a live camera or console feed.

Or let it run in the cloud

For a prerecorded-video YouTube stream, StreamNeo’s setup is: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, then go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and it automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Learn more at StreamNeo, or start the free first day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can passthrough tell me what resolution the card records?

No. Passthrough is the signal sent to a display; capture is the signal recorded or streamed by the computer. Check both specifications separately.

Are the sub-$150 prices in older capture-card lists current?

Not necessarily. Retail prices and stock change; verify the exact item and final checkout total with the seller before buying.

Do I need a capture card to loop prerecorded videos on YouTube?

No. A capture card brings a live source such as a console into a computer. Cloud services such as StreamNeo instead play uploaded videos on YouTube.
