How to Schedule a 24/7 YouTube Livestream in Live Control Room

Schedule a YouTube event in Live Control Room, connect your encoder, and prepare for the limits of 24/7 broadcasts and archives.

In YouTube Studio, open Create > Go Live, then choose Manage > Schedule stream. Create a new event or reuse settings, configure your encoder with the stream URL and key shown in Live Control Room, start the encoder, check its preview, and select Go live. Scheduling creates an upcoming event; it does not guarantee an uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast or a complete replay. YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all.

Schedule the livestream in YouTube Studio

  1. Open Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, select Create > Go Live.
  2. Create the event. Open Manage > Schedule stream. Choose Reuse settings for a repeat event or Create new for a new setup. Set the event metadata, visibility, and available stream options, then save. YouTube says a scheduled stream can appear as upcoming, allowing viewers to share its watch URL and request a notification. YouTube Help: schedule a live stream
  3. Copy the stream details into your encoder. Use the stream URL and stream key displayed in Live Control Room. The key authorizes the encoder to send video to your channel, so treat it like a password. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and update the encoder with the replacement. YouTube Help: stream settings
  4. Start the encoder and check the preview. Confirm that the video and audio look and sound right in Live Control Room, then select Go live. When the event is finished, end it using the Live Control Room control and stop sending encoder content. YouTube Help: schedule a live stream · YouTube Help: live streaming tips

Plan around the 12-hour archive limit

Scheduling an event and keeping a broadcast running continuously are separate concerns. YouTube Help says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; if a stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all. Do not rely on YouTube to provide a complete replay of a single stream intended to run for 24 hours or longer. YouTube Help: archive live streams

  • Make a local recording if you need an archive, and check that the file is growing during the broadcast.
  • Decide how you will handle an encoder or connection interruption, including whether to restart the event or resume using the existing setup.
  • Check the recording file after the stream; a recording option is useful only if the resulting file is intact and accessible.

Prepare and monitor the encoder setup

Choose software or hardware encoding

An encoder is required, but it can be software or a dedicated device. YouTube recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production-value events; that is a conditional recommendation, not a requirement for every channel or a guarantee of uninterrupted service. Choose based on production needs, and confirm that the encoder supports the protocol and settings you intend to use. YouTube Help: live streaming tips · YouTube Help: stream settings

Use RTMPS when encrypted ingestion is needed

YouTube documents RTMPS as RTMP over TLS/SSL. If your encoder supports it and you need encrypted ingestion, copy the RTMPS URL from Live Control Room and confirm the selected protocol: the URL shown by default may be the ordinary RTMP address. YouTube Help: stream using RTMPS

  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Allow setup time and test the viewing path

YouTube’s encoder guidance recommends setting up at least two hours before an event and starting the encoder at least 15 minutes before it. These are preparation recommendations, not a promise that a continuous broadcast will stay online. Before relying on the scheduled event, preview the feed, test backup-encoder failover if you use one, verify that the local recording is growing, and check access from the channel, the watch page, and a mobile device. Continue monitoring picture and sound during the broadcast. YouTube Help: live streaming tips · YouTube Help: encoder setup guidance

Know the simultaneous-stream limits

YouTube Help states a maximum of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key, with both limits applying at the same time. These are concurrency limits; they do not establish how long one stream can run or guarantee its reliability. YouTube Help: live streaming limits

Troubleshoot common setup problems

Symptom What to check Fix
No incoming feed or preview The encoder may not be using the stream URL and key shown for this event, or may not have started sending. Compare the encoder’s URL and key with Live Control Room, correct them if needed, and restart the encoder. Keep the key private; reset it if compromised.
Encoder is sending, but you have not gone live The event may still be waiting for the preview and the Live Control Room action. Check the preview and audio, then select Go live.
Encrypted ingestion is not working as expected The encoder may be using ordinary RTMP rather than RTMPS, or may not support the selected protocol. Confirm encoder support and copy the RTMPS URL from Live Control Room when encrypted ingestion is required.
Expected replay is missing or incomplete A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured by YouTube. Use and monitor a local recording when you need an archive; do not depend on a complete YouTube replay for a 24/7 event.
Viewers cannot access the event The saved visibility or event details may not match what you intended, or the watch page may not be reachable from the viewer’s device. Review the event settings and test access from the watch page and a mobile device before relying on the broadcast.
