A strong download-speed result does not prove that your upload connection can sustain a live broadcast. YouTube’s general encoder guidance can help diagnose the problem, but it does not establish a CameraFi-specific bug or fix.
First, identify when the stream disconnects
Before changing settings, record what happens. Does CameraFi Live fail immediately, drop after a repeatable interval, or disconnect only when you move or the network changes? Note the exact error shown by the app or YouTube, and check whether YouTube Live Control Room reports a stream-health warning. This narrows the next test; YouTube’s published guidance does not provide a CameraFi-specific error-code map.
- Failure before the stream starts: check the stream key or sign-in setup if the error points to authentication or configuration.
- A stream that starts and later drops: investigate upload stability, available bandwidth, and encoder health first. A new stream key is documented for encoder start errors, not established as a fix for mid-stream drops.
- Drops associated with movement or a changing signal: test from a stable location and compare connections without changing other settings.
Check upload stability and leave headroom
Run an upload-speed test from the same location and on the same connection you use for the stream. YouTube recommends leaving 20% of upload bandwidth beyond the stream’s total bitrate; other people or devices sharing the network can reduce the bandwidth available to your broadcast. YouTube’s streaming tips explain the headroom recommendation.
- Measure upload speed on the phone and connection you plan to use, not on a different device or network.
- Compare the result with the stream’s total bitrate, including audio, and keep the recommended 20% room beyond that bitrate.
- If the connection is shared, congested, or has a weak mobile signal, try a less congested location or another available connection, then test again.
A download-speed test alone cannot establish whether the outbound connection is sufficient. YouTube’s filming tips also recommend checking mobile signal. Its Ethernet recommendation is for streaming from a computer; it does not establish that a particular adapter will work with CameraFi Live on a phone.

Match bitrate to the connection, resolution, and frame rate
If upload capacity is marginal, lower the stream’s demand and test again. YouTube’s encoder table gives recommended bitrates by codec, resolution, and frame rate; the correct target depends on all three. For H.264, YouTube lists these examples:

These are YouTube platform recommendations, not a guarantee that a particular phone or network can sustain them. Consult YouTube’s current encoder settings and bitrate guidance for the chosen codec and output. If the connection is under strain, try a lower resolution or frame rate as a diagnostic. Change one setting at a time so you can tell what helped.

Check CameraFi Live and encoder health
When the upload connection appears adequate, check the app and outgoing stream rather than repeatedly changing network settings. YouTube’s general guidance for third-party encoders recommends updating the encoder software, checking how the stream looks and sounds, reviewing encoder errors, and checking CPU load. These are general YouTube troubleshooting steps, not confirmation of a CameraFi-specific defect.
- Update CameraFi Live to the latest version available to you.
- Inspect the outgoing preview and any error or stream-health messages.
- Check whether the device appears overloaded while encoding.
- If network tests are satisfactory but encoder trouble continues, test another encoder to help determine whether the problem is app- or encoder-related.
YouTube’s encoder troubleshooting guidance does not establish that clearing cache, reinstalling CameraFi Live, disabling battery optimization, or changing a particular CameraFi toggle will fix disconnects. Avoid treating those steps as confirmed fixes without evidence for your device and app version.

If the stream fails before it starts, check the key and connection method
For an error starting a third-party encoder, YouTube recommends generating or copying a new stream key in Live Control Room and updating the encoder with it. This applies to start errors; it is not a proven remedy for a broadcast that starts and then disconnects.
- Open YouTube Live Control Room and generate or copy a new stream key.
- Update the key in the encoder’s stream setup, then try starting the broadcast again.
- If CameraFi Live signs in to YouTube directly rather than using a stream key, YouTube directs users to the third-party software’s support team for compatibility help.
YouTube documents RTMP and RTMPS encoder settings, recommends RTMPS, and lists CBR for bitrate encoding. Whether CameraFi Live exposes each setting can vary by app version and device. Check YouTube’s encoder setup guidance and the options actually available in your app.

Retest before your next event
Use an unlisted or otherwise low-risk test with the same phone, location, network, and representative audio and movement you expect during the broadcast. YouTube recommends testing before going live, checking the preview, and monitoring stream health and messages during the event. Its encoder settings guidance specifically advises including realistic audio and movement in a test; its streaming tips cover monitoring stream health and messages.
If a change appears to solve the issue, repeat the test long enough to cover the failure pattern you observed. Keep the other conditions constant while testing Wi-Fi versus mobile data, bitrate changes, or a different encoder; otherwise, it will be difficult to identify the cause.
