If YouTube Live Redirect is missing or viewers are not reaching the destination, check the sender’s eligibility, the receiving channel’s redirect permissions, the destination’s availability, and the source stream’s redirect setup—in that order. After the source ends, YouTube uses autoplay to move viewers to the selected Premiere or live stream; it is not an encoder or stream-key setting.
Check the four conditions that make a redirect work
- Sender eligibility: YouTube says the channel sending the redirect needs more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes. Confirm this on the sending channel first. YouTube Help: How to use YouTube Live Redirect
- Destination permission: If routing viewers to another channel, that channel must allow the sending channel to redirect to its content.
- Destination availability: The destination must be live now or have an upcoming livestream or Premiere, and it must meet the receiving channel’s permission rules. If no destination meets both conditions, YouTube may show no options.
- Source configuration and handoff: The redirect must be selected for the source item. When that item ends, give the watch page a few seconds to reload; viewers with autoplay disabled may need to press play.
Fix a missing redirect option
First verify the sender meets YouTube’s stated eligibility: more than 1,000 subscribers and no Community Guidelines strikes. If the redirect is for the sender’s own Premiere, confirm it is set up and available. If it is for another channel’s live stream, ask that channel’s creator to check its redirect permissions in YouTube Studio.
YouTube Help states: “To redirect your viewers to another channel’s live stream, that channel needs to give you permission from YouTube Studio.” A sender can qualify and still be unable to choose a particular channel if the receiver has not authorized it.
Fix a destination missing from the picker
The receiving channel controls who may redirect viewers to its content. Its creator can review the settings in YouTube Studio under Settings → Community. YouTube documents three permission approaches:

- Channels the receiver subscribes to: The receiver’s subscriptions must be public for this option to work.
- All channels: This allows any channel to redirect to the receiver’s eligible content. It cannot be combined with the subscribed-channel or manual-list choices.
- Specific approved channels: The receiver can approve named channels. The manual list supports up to 100 channels and can be combined with the subscribed-channel option.
After confirming permission, check the destination itself. It needs to be live or have an upcoming livestream or Premiere. Set or change the redirect on the source item
YouTube’s currently documented Studio route is:
- Open YouTube Studio → Content → Live.
- Edit the source livestream video.
- Open Customization.
- Find Redirect, choose Add, and select an eligible Premiere or another channel’s live stream.
- Save or apply the change using the controls shown in Studio.
YouTube also describes configuring redirects from Live Control Room. Interface labels and navigation can change, so use the current controls in Studio if your screen differs. The official walkthrough is available from YouTube Creators: Live Redirect.

If viewers stay on the source watch page
A selected redirect is an end-of-program handoff, not an instant switch while the source is still running. End the source livestream or Premiere, then allow a few seconds for the page to reload. Tell viewers ahead of time to wait rather than close the page immediately. If autoplay is turned off in a viewer’s settings, they may have to start playback themselves.
For a livestream that leads into a Premiere, set up the Premiere first, then select it as the source’s redirect destination. YouTube for Artists also describes linking a livestream and Premiere to bring fans together around a music release: Going Live for Music Channels.

Keep the redirect separate from always-on streaming
Live Redirect controls where YouTube sends viewers after a livestream or Premiere ends. It does not keep a source broadcast running continuously or fix a permission or destination-picker problem.
