CameraFi Live may stop or lose its connection when an Android phone locks or sits idle, but there is no universal setting that guarantees screen-off streaming on every device. First test whether the stream fails at screen timeout, at lock, or only after the phone has been idle; then check CameraFi Live’s background battery controls, repeat a short test while charging, and contact CameraFi support if the problem persists.
First separate screen timeout from phone sleep
A display turning off is not necessarily the same event as the app being backgrounded or the phone entering a low-power state. Test these conditions separately so you can identify when the broadcast falters.
- Start a short stream with CameraFi Live visible and the screen awake. Confirm the outgoing broadcast is stable. CameraFi’s beginner guide covers choosing camera or screen mode and selecting a destination platform.
- Temporarily extend the display timeout in your phone’s Display settings. Leave CameraFi Live in the foreground and watch whether the stream continues until the screen turns off.
- Next, lock the phone or leave CameraFi Live, testing one condition at a time. Use another device or the destination platform’s preview/viewer to check whether the broadcast is still live.
Write down the point at which the stream stops: screen timeout, locking, leaving the app, or a period of idle time. Also note whether the phone is charging. These distinctions help separate an app or device power-management issue from a destination or network interruption.
Check CameraFi Live’s battery and background settings
Open Android Settings and inspect CameraFi Live’s app battery, battery usage, or background-usage controls. If your phone offers a less restrictive option—often described as allowing background activity or unrestricted use—try it and repeat a short test. Menu names and available choices vary by Android version and manufacturer; there is no single path or label that applies to every phone.

Android’s Doze documentation explains that a device can enter Doze when it is unplugged, stationary, and screen-off. In Doze, Android restricts network access and ignores wake locks. Turning on the screen, moving the phone, or connecting a charger exits Doze. That makes Doze a plausible factor in a screen-off interruption, but it does not establish the cause of any particular CameraFi failure.
Repeat the test while charging and on reliable connectivity
Run another short test while the phone is connected to a charger and using a reliable network. If the stream lasts longer, that is a useful clue—not proof that Doze was the cause and not a guarantee of uninterrupted streaming. A charger can help isolate idle power behavior, but it will not fix a weak connection, overheating, or an app or device-specific problem.

For a stream away from an outlet, a compatible USB-C power bank may be useful. Check your phone’s connector and supported charging standard before buying one. Portable charging is not a fix for software, network, overheating, or manufacturer-specific issues.
Know the limits of screen-off streaming
CameraFi describes its app as a way to stream or record live broadcasts. Its platform options include YouTube, Facebook, AfreecaTV, Twitch, OBS Studio, vMix, RTMP, SRT, Wowza, and RTSP; available settings depend on the destination. Its FAQ says screen broadcasting is supported only on Android as of December 20, 2024. That statement concerns screen broadcasting; neither the FAQ nor the guide promises that camera or screen streams continue after the display turns off.

Android’s rules for camera and microphone access also matter. Its foreground-service guidance, last updated September 1, 2026, says apps targeting Android 11 or higher must include camera and microphone foreground-service types when accessing those resources through a foreground service. Under the documented rules, a foreground service started while the app is already in the background cannot access the camera or microphone. This is developer-facing platform guidance, not proof of CameraFi Live’s implementation or a user setting that enables unconditional background access.
Do not assume that installing a separate “wake lock” app will solve the problem. Android says wake locks can quickly drain the battery and advises developers to use them only when necessary after considering whether a foreground service and keeping the device awake are actually required.

If CameraFi Live still stops
- Make sure the short, screen-awake baseline test is stable before investigating screen-off behavior.
- Change one condition at a time: timeout, lock/backgrounding, charging, or battery setting. This makes the result easier to interpret.
- Record your phone model, Android version, CameraFi Live version, camera or screen mode, destination, whether the display was locked or the app was backgrounded, and whether the phone was charging.
- Send those details to CameraFi at [email protected]. The app’s documented behavior and phone-specific power controls may change with updates.
