The right alternative depends on what you mean by “looping.” To repeat a video or playlist while watching YouTube, use YouTube’s built-in Loop control; you do not need streaming software. To broadcast prepared video files as a YouTube Live stream, use a local encoder such as OBS Studio or a cloud service. YouTube’s watch-page loop does not create a live broadcast.
First, decide whether you want playback or a live broadcast
- Watching: You want a video or playlist to repeat on YouTube. Use the player’s Loop control.
- Broadcasting: You want uploaded or local video files to appear as a live stream on your channel. You need a production workflow, such as OBS Studio running on your computer or a hosted cloud broadcaster.
Those are different jobs. Streamlabs Desktop is a computer-based streaming and recording app, but the official pages reviewed do not document a specific local-media playlist-loop setup. That documentation gap does not establish that no feature or workaround exists in every version.
Best alternatives, depending on the job
For a YouTube Live stream that should keep running

3. Streamloop or Looping Stream — Cloud-hosted alternatives described by their vendors for broadcasting uploaded playlists without leaving your own computer on. Their pages describe different features and terms; check current costs, limits, platform support, and operating details directly before choosing. These are vendor descriptions, not independent service tests.
For repeating a video while you watch
YouTube’s built-in Loop control is the simplest option. It repeats playback for you, not a broadcast for your audience.

- Computer or mobile device: Open the video’s watch screen, right-click in the player, and select Loop. For a playlist, open the playlist box and select Loop.
- TV or console: While the video or playlist is playing, use the Repeat control.
This changes playback for the viewer. It does not send the video out as a YouTube Live stream. See YouTube Help’s instructions for looping videos or playlists.
Use OBS Studio to loop local files into a live production
OBS Studio is the strongest documented desktop match when you want to use local media as a live production source. OBS’s Media Sources documentation covers Windows, macOS, and Linux. A local broadcast depends on your computer, OBS, and network remaining available; it is not the same as cloud hosting.
Repeat one local file with Media Source
- In OBS, add a Media Source to the scene you plan to broadcast and select the local video or audio file.
- Enable the source’s Loop option to repeat that file. The source accepts local video and audio.
- Arrange and size the source in the scene, then use OBS’s normal live-production workflow to send the scene to YouTube Live.
Loop a playlist with VLC Video
- Install VLC before setting up the OBS VLC Video source; that source relies on VLC libraries.
- Add a VLC Video source and select the local files for the playlist.
- Use Loop Playlist for repeat playback. OBS documents it as enabled by default; Shuffle Playlist is documented as disabled by default.
Match VLC’s architecture to OBS: OBS specifically notes that a 64-bit OBS installation requires 64-bit VLC. See the OBS Project Media Sources documentation for source details.

What to plan for with a desktop broadcast
- Power and availability: The machine running OBS must stay on and available for the broadcast, as must its connection. A sleep, restart, app failure, or network interruption can interrupt a local workflow.
- Playlist behavior: Choose a single repeating file when the same video should recur; use VLC Video when you need a list and control over ordered versus shuffled playback.
- Monitoring: Keep an eye on OBS and the YouTube live stream status, especially for a long-running broadcast. The cited OBS source documentation describes media sources, not a guarantee of uninterrupted streaming.
- Rights and platform rules: Use media you have the rights to broadcast and follow YouTube’s rules. A loop setting does not grant permission to rebroadcast a film, documentary, music, or other copyrighted work.

- Streamloop: Its vendor page describes continuous broadcasts of uploaded pre-recorded playlists to YouTube and other RTMP platforms, ordered or shuffled playlists, credit-based usage, and scheduling. Confirm present terms and platform support on Streamloop’s site.
- Looping Stream: Its vendor page describes uploading media to cloud storage, building a playlist, and streaming continuously with cloud workers. It says your local computer need not remain online and places responsibility for YouTube configuration and policy compliance on the user. The page lists a new-user trial of seven days, 24 total streaming hours, 1 GB storage, and one simultaneous stream; these terms may change, so verify them directly at Looping Stream.

For a viewer, choose YouTube Loop. For a creator who wants a documented local file or playlist source and accepts keeping a PC online, choose OBS. Rights and YouTube policy still apply
Looping software and cloud hosting do not change who owns the video or whether it may be broadcast. Before streaming a documentary, film, music track, or other third-party material, make sure you have the necessary rights and permissions. Configure the YouTube stream correctly and comply with YouTube policies; a service’s ability to play a file is not authorization to publish it.
Troubleshooting
OBS does not show VLC Video
Install VLC, then confirm its architecture matches OBS. OBS documents that 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.

A file plays once and stops
For a Media Source, check that Loop is enabled. For a playlist in VLC Video, check Loop Playlist and confirm the intended files are selected.
The playlist order is unexpected
Check whether Shuffle Playlist is enabled. OBS documents shuffle as off by default, but the active source setting determines playback behavior.
A desktop live stream stops when unattended
A local OBS workflow depends on the computer, application, power, and network remaining available. Check that the computer has not slept or restarted, that OBS is still running, and that the connection is active. If the computer must be off, use a cloud-hosted workflow instead.
The video repeats on YouTube but viewers do not see a live stream
YouTube’s Loop control is for watch-page playback. To broadcast as Live, send a production from OBS or use a cloud playlist broadcaster configured for your YouTube channel.
