Streamlabs Desktop can keep a YouTube broadcast live only while the computer running it, its power, and its internet connection remain available. You can set up the stream by connecting your YouTube account in Streamlabs Desktop, configuring your audio and video sources, and starting the broadcast. For a true 24/7 stream, plan for interruptions and do not rely on YouTube to save the entire broadcast: YouTube says streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all.
What a 24/7 Streamlabs Desktop broadcast requires
Streamlabs Desktop is an encoder: it sends audio and video from your computer to YouTube. It does not make a local computer, power supply, or internet connection unnecessary. If any of those stop working, the broadcast can stop too. This setup is suited to a creator who wants to operate a computer-based broadcast and can monitor it; it is not a hands-off cloud loop for prerecorded videos.
- An eligible YouTube channel: YouTube requires the channel to be verified and to have had no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. You must be at least 16 to live stream. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before your planned start. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance and its encoder setup guide.
- A compatible computer: Streamlabs lists Windows 10 or later and macOS 12 or later for its YouTube workflow. Check Streamlabs’ current requirements before installing: Streamlabs: Go live to YouTube for free.
- Working sources: Configure the video and audio sources you intend to broadcast, and check them in the preview before going live.
- Power, network, and supervision: The computer and network path must remain available for the duration. YouTube recommends checking stream health and continuously monitoring audio and video quality; a single-PC setup should not be treated as automatically backed up.
Set up Streamlabs Desktop for YouTube
- Enable YouTube live streaming in advance. Complete YouTube’s verification and eligibility steps, then wait for activation if this is the first time the channel has streamed. YouTube says activation may take up to 24 hours.
- Install Streamlabs Desktop. Use a computer meeting the operating-system requirements listed for Streamlabs’ YouTube workflow: Windows 10+ or macOS 12+.
- Connect your YouTube account in Streamlabs Desktop. Use the connected-account workflow described by Streamlabs. Its integrated workflow does not require manually entering a stream key. Follow the current instructions in Streamlabs’ YouTube live-stream guide.
- Set up your broadcast sources. Add and configure the video and audio sources for the programme you actually intend to send. Confirm that the right picture and sound appear in the Streamlabs preview. Do not assume that a scene, microphone, or media source is working just because it was selected.
- Run a low-risk test. Start with an unlisted test or another low-risk broadcast, then inspect the preview and stream health in YouTube Live Control Room. YouTube recommends encoder checks and continued monitoring. Do not use a first-ever test as the start of a broadcast you cannot afford to interrupt.
- Start the broadcast and keep watch. Check video, audio, and YouTube’s stream-health indications as the stream runs. YouTube’s failover instructions describe testing a separate backup encoder by stopping the primary encoder or disconnecting its Ethernet cable and confirming that the backup player works. That procedure applies to a deliberately configured redundant setup; it does not mean one Streamlabs installation automatically switches to a backup.
Settings and practical safeguards for a long broadcast
Do not guess at a universal bitrate or resolution
The sources here do not establish a single bitrate, resolution, frame rate, or keyframe interval that is right for every Streamlabs setup. The appropriate output depends on the source, computer, and available upload connection. Choose settings your system and sustained upload can handle, test them in YouTube Live Control Room, and watch for stream-health or audio/video problems before committing to a long session. If you change output settings, test again rather than assuming the new configuration is stable.
Plan for power and connectivity at your location
For an India-based channel, assess your own power supply, ISP upload performance, data plan, cooling, and equipment rather than relying on a country-wide assumption. A UPS sized for the computer and network equipment can help through a brief power interruption within its capacity and runtime; it cannot fix an internet outage, a YouTube interruption, or a longer outage than it can support.

Keep a local recording if the programme matters
If you need a copy of the broadcast, enable local recording and verify that the file is being written and growing while the stream is live. Make sure there is enough disk space for the intended recording; the amount needed depends on your chosen settings and duration. YouTube also recommends checking the local file during the broadcast. What happens to a 24-hour YouTube archive and DVR?
A continuous broadcast is not a safe way to guarantee a complete YouTube archive or full rewind. YouTube says a stream under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but warns: “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” YouTube’s separate DVR guidance says rewind may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours.

If a complete archive is essential, keep a verified local recording. Another possibility to evaluate is planned restarts that keep each broadcast under 12 hours, but this is not a guaranteed fit for every channel or audience, and you should test how it affects your programme before depending on it.
Copyright and suitability of the programme
Before leaving content live around the clock, make sure you have the rights needed to stream the video, music, images, and other material in it. Being able to play a file in Streamlabs does not establish permission to broadcast it. Review YouTube’s applicable policies and account notices, and do not assume that continuous or prerecorded playback is exempt. Troubleshooting a stream that stops or looks wrong

Run the broadcast locally or move prerecorded playback to the cloud?
Streamlabs Desktop is the local-computer route: it gives you the computer-based encoder workflow, but the computer and connection must remain available. YouTube’s encoder guide also names Gyre and Upstream as cloud 24/7 streaming offerings. That guide does not establish their current prices, availability in India, or partner terms, so check those directly before choosing one.
