One free scan finds every outdated or missing driver and matches the right update for your exact hardware.Free scan · exact hardware matchTo run ocean sounds continuously on YouTube Live, loop a local recording in OBS, connect OBS to a YouTube Live stream with your stream key, and keep the computer, power, and internet connection running. Use OBS Media Source for one file or VLC Video for a playlist. Before going public, test the loop, audio, and YouTube preview—and confirm you have the rights to stream both the audio and visuals.
What you need before you start
- A YouTube channel that is verified and eligible for live streaming. YouTube says first-time activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it before your planned launch. See YouTube’s live streaming help.
- A computer that can run OBS for the whole broadcast, with reliable power and internet access. YouTube says, “You do not need expensive equipment, what you have at hand will do.”
- One ocean-sounds media file for a single repeating loop, or several files for a playlist.
- Permission or a license that covers streaming the recording and any accompanying visual material. Keep the source and license terms, including attribution and commercial-use restrictions.
A recording of natural ocean sound and any music, video, or other material layered over it can involve separate rights. YouTube describes permission, public-domain material, applicable copyright exceptions, and Creative Commons licenses as possible routes, but warns that none guarantees avoiding a Content ID claim or copyright strike. Review YouTube’s copyright guidance before streaming.
Prepare and test your ocean media
Choose a file and visual
Use a recording you made or one whose license permits this use. If it is a video, check that its audio track contains the intended ambience. Keep the source files available on the computer for the entire stream. A static ocean image, a still frame, or a video can serve as the visual; make sure you have the necessary rights for it too.
Check the loop transition
Play the file through its ending and beginning before launch. Listen for a gap, click, abrupt volume change, or jarring transition, and watch for a visible jump if the image moves. This is especially important for short clips that will repeat often. Set a comfortable audio level and listen to the output rather than relying only on a meter.

Build the loop in OBS
Loop one file with Media Source
- Open OBS and select the scene you want to use.
- In Sources, select + and add Media Source.
- Create or select a source, then browse to your local ocean-sounds file.
- Enable Loop in the source properties and confirm the settings.
- Start playback and confirm that the OBS audio mixer responds. Listen to the output and check the visual in the preview.
OBS documents Media Source as a way to play local media and loop it. Supported media types and behavior can depend on the file, so test your own recording before relying on it unattended. See the OBS Media Sources guide.
Loop several files with VLC Video
- Install VLC if it is not already installed. OBS notes that VLC must be installed for the VLC Video source to appear; with 64-bit OBS, use a matching 64-bit VLC installation.
- In OBS, select Sources → + → VLC Video.
- Add the ocean recordings to the playlist and arrange them in the order you want.
- Enable Loop Playlist. Enable Shuffle Playlist only if you want the clips to rotate in a random order.
- Play through a transition between clips and confirm the sound and image behave as intended.
OBS documents the VLC Video source and its playlist controls in its media source guide. Check transitions and audio levels with your own files; the settings alone do not guarantee seamless playback.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live
- In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go Live. You can use the Stream tab or schedule a broadcast from Manage. YouTube’s current workflow is described in Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
- In Live Control Room, create or select the stream and copy its server URL and stream key.
- In OBS, open Settings → Stream, choose YouTube as the service, and enter the server URL and stream key if OBS does not connect through its service sign-in flow.
- Treat the stream key like a password. Do not show it in a recording or share it. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update OBS.
- Start streaming in OBS and wait for the incoming signal and preview in YouTube Live Control Room. For a scheduled broadcast, follow the Live Control Room prompt to go live if required by the stream’s settings.
Use an unlisted or private test before a public launch. Confirm the watch page opens, the stream plays on a phone as well as your computer, the ocean sound is audible at a suitable level, and the video or playlist keeps looping. YouTube recommends testing the stream and checking its preview and access before going live.
Keep the stream running and monitor it
A local OBS setup depends on the computer, power, internet connection, and playback source continuing to work. Keep an eye on YouTube’s preview and the live watch page after launch. Confirm that both audio and video continue, not just that OBS shows an active meter. YouTube recommends ongoing monitoring; its encoder guidance does not establish one universal automatic recovery setup for every local encoder.

- Computer or OBS interruption: a crash, restart, or operating-system update can stop the feed. Disable disruptive scheduled restarts where appropriate and check the machine during the broadcast.
- Power or network interruption: either can break the connection. Consider what should happen after an outage and test reconnect behavior before treating the stream as unattended.
- Playback stops or changes: check the OBS source, playlist, file availability, and audio output if sound or picture disappears.
- Stream appears live locally but not on YouTube: check the YouTube preview and connection status; OBS’s local meters alone do not confirm that YouTube is receiving the intended output.
Plan the replay separately from the live feed
YouTube’s encoder guide says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That does not promise a complete replay of a continuous 24-hour broadcast or establish a universal maximum stream duration. If a complete replay matters, verify YouTube’s current behavior and consider recording locally or dividing the broadcast into segments. If you record locally, check that the recording is actually being written and that available storage can accommodate it. YouTube’s API documentation includes a 24/7 broadcast as a technical example; it is not a guarantee of uninterrupted operation or full-length archival.
Choosing a way to run the stream
| Approach | Good fit when | Tradeoffs to check |
|---|---|---|
| StreamNeo — cloud playback for YouTube | You want uploaded videos to loop without leaving a computer running at home. | Confirm your media, rights, monitoring needs, and service terms suit your broadcast. One flat price per slot covers any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps; the first day is free. |
| Computer with OBS Media Source | You have one local file and can keep the computer running. | Computer uptime, operating-system updates, power and network interruptions, and monitoring. |
| Computer with OBS VLC Video playlist | You want multiple local recordings to play in order or shuffle. | VLC installation, playlist order, transitions, and playback behavior. |
| Dedicated hardware encoder | You have a specific reason to use standalone hardware and scheduled media playback. | Setup complexity, scheduling, recording and archiving, and price. |
These approaches differ in who operates the playback system, how playlists are controlled, what monitoring is available, and how interruptions are handled. The cited YouTube and OBS guidance does not provide comparative reliability or cost data, so there is no universally best choice.
