OBS YouTube Stream Keeps Stopping When a Playlist Ends: How to Fix It

When an OBS playlist ends, check whether OBS has stopped sending video before changing YouTube settings. Auto-stop ends a broadcast after the feed stops; it does not loop the playlist.

If your YouTube live event ends when an OBS playlist reaches its last video, first check whether OBS is still sending video. YouTube can end a broadcast about one minute after its encoder stops transmitting when auto-stop is enabled. That setting governs the broadcast’s response to a stopped feed; it does not make an OBS playlist repeat. To keep the event live with continuous content, the OBS source or playlist system must keep supplying video.

First identify what is stopping

A playlist reaching its last item, OBS stopping its output, and YouTube ending the broadcast are separate events. Check both ends at the moment playback finishes:

  1. In OBS: watch the streaming status and confirm whether the output remains active after the final item.
  2. In YouTube Live Control Room: check the preview and broadcast status. YouTube’s lifecycle guidance treats an active stream status as evidence that encoder data is reaching its servers. If the event ends, note whether OBS had already stopped sending.

This distinction determines the fix. If OBS output stops, address the media source or playlist component. If OBS continues transmitting but YouTube marks the event ended, check the selected broadcast and its settings, then consider whether OBS’s YouTube integration is current.

If OBS stops sending when playback ends

The content feed needs to continue if you want the live event to remain active. Configure the source or playlist system that supplies the videos to repeat, keep supplying content, or transition to another live scene. The exact control depends on what you use: the title alone does not identify an OBS media source, plugin, or external playlist tool, so there is no single reliable menu path or setting name for every setup.

  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  • Check the playback component’s own end-of-playback and repeat behavior.
  • Confirm that the scene remains active and that another source is not leaving OBS with no video to send.
  • Test by watching OBS output and the YouTube preview through the end of a playlist item.

If you share the name of the source, plugin, or external playlist system, its specific repeat instructions can be checked against that implementation. Do not assume that changing a YouTube broadcast setting will restart or loop the media.

Check YouTube auto-stop and scheduled-event controls

YouTube’s live stream settings let you start or stop streaming from the encoder when the corresponding auto-start and auto-stop options are enabled. Reusing stream settings also copies those choices. With auto-stop enabled, YouTube automatically ends the broadcast about one minute after transmission stops, according to Google’s broadcast lifecycle documentation.

For a scheduled broadcast, verify that OBS is connected to the intended event. When auto-start or auto-stop is disabled, starting OBS streaming and starting or ending the YouTube event are separate actions. The OBS Project community guide describes using the Live Control Room’s Go Live and End Stream controls in that case; interface details may change.

Turning off auto-stop may keep YouTube from immediately ending an event after encoder output stops, which can help if you need time to reconnect. It does not supply video or loop a playlist. OBS’s guide warns that with auto-stop off, an event with no incoming stream will eventually end after multiple hours. If the intended outcome is for the broadcast to end when content finishes, auto-stop may be the right setting.

If OBS keeps transmitting but YouTube ends the event

  • Confirm OBS is streaming to the intended scheduled broadcast, not a different event.
  • Check the selected broadcast’s auto-start and auto-stop settings in YouTube Live Control Room.
  • Compare OBS’s streaming status with YouTube’s preview and broadcast status at the failure moment.
  • Check whether OBS’s YouTube integration is current. OBS Studio 27 release notes documented historical fixes involving Go Live for existing broadcasts without auto-start and broadcast-button state with auto-stop enabled. Those release notes describe past fixes, not proof that an older issue is causing your current failure.

OBS’s historical notes are available at OBS Studio 27 release notes. Use them as version history, not as a diagnosis by themselves.

Common symptoms and what to do

What you see Likely explanation Next step
OBS output stops at the playlist’s last item; YouTube ends the event shortly afterward. The content feed ended, and YouTube auto-stop is enabled. Set the source or playlist system to continue supplying video if the event should remain live. Review YouTube auto-stop separately.
OBS output stops, but you want to reconnect or resume. The event may end after the encoder stops if auto-stop is enabled. Review auto-stop and restore the OBS feed. Disabling auto-stop does not create video output.
OBS still shows active output, but YouTube says the event ended. The selected broadcast or its settings may not match the event you intended to stream. Check the event selection, auto-start/auto-stop settings, and OBS integration status.
A scheduled event does not start or end when OBS streaming starts or stops. Auto-start or auto-stop may be disabled. Use the relevant Go Live or End Stream action in Live Control Room, as applicable.
YouTube ends the event when the playlist finishes, and that is what you want. This may be expected behavior rather than a fault. Keep auto-stop enabled if you want the broadcast to end after encoder transmission stops.
