Which service fits a 24/7 YouTube channel?
For duration alone, Restream is the simpler fit based on the services’ published guidance. Vimeo can support continuous streaming through an Enterprise add-on, but that means confirming Enterprise eligibility and the add-on terms before relying on it. Neither service’s published guidance establishes uninterrupted uptime, so a 24/7 operation still needs monitoring and a recovery plan.
There is also a YouTube-specific limit to plan around: YouTube says it has no stream-duration cap, but automatically archives only streams shorter than 12 hours. If preserving replays matters, plan separate sessions under that threshold rather than assuming a single continuous stream will produce a complete archive. How Vimeo’s 24/7 option works
Plan and stream limits
Vimeo’s FAQ lists up to two simultaneous streams on Advanced and up to three on Premium, with a 12-hour limit for each stream on both plans. Its Enterprise plan supports up to three simultaneous streams with a 12-hour limit each, with options to add more streams and extend streaming to 24/7 as an add-on. The same FAQ lists a 2 TB monthly bandwidth policy. Confirm the applicable terms directly with Vimeo, particularly if you need continuous operation or multiple concurrent feeds. Destinations and launch checks
Vimeo documents two ways to simulcast to YouTube: direct integration supports up to 10 destinations, while RTMP supports up to 20. For the RTMP workflow, a scheduled YouTube stream may not begin broadcasting just because the encoder connects; the operator may need to select Go live in YouTube Live Control Room. How Restream’s continuous-stream guidance works
Duration and restarts
Restream says it does not impose a duration limit at its service level. It nevertheless warns that continuous streams running for more than 24 hours may encounter server maintenance and recommends restarting every 24 hours to prevent potential issues. Treat that as an operational recommendation, not a guarantee that a restart will always be seamless. Define who will monitor the stream and how they will restart it. Connect the right YouTube account
Restream’s YouTube setup guidance says live streaming must be enabled on the channel. For first-time live streaming, YouTube requires phone verification and a 24-hour wait. Restream also says the connected Google account must own the YouTube channel; a manager or editor account alone is not enough. On a team channel, check account ownership before scheduling an event. Plan the YouTube archive, stream key, and monetization
Do not expect one long replay
YouTube’s automatic archive applies to streams shorter than 12 hours. A feed that runs longer should not be assumed to create a complete replay. If a full recording is important, keep a separate recording or divide the schedule into sessions that fit YouTube’s archive threshold; verify the resulting replays in YouTube Studio.
Protect the stream key
YouTube’s encoder workflow uses a YouTube Live server URL and stream key, which you enter in the streaming service or encoder. Treat the key as a credential: restrict access to people who operate the stream, and do not publish it or share it in public messages. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Live Control Room and update the connected service. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions describe where the server URL and key fit into the workflow.

Monetization is a YouTube channel question
YouTube’s encoder help says channels in the YouTube Partner Program can monetize a live stream. Using Vimeo or Restream does not itself establish monetization eligibility or get a channel accepted into the program. Review YouTube’s requirements and the channel’s status separately from the relay-service decision.

An always-on feed is an operations task as well as a software choice. Vimeo recommends using appropriate equipment, testing early, rehearsing, and monitoring stream health. For either service, document the person responsible for monitoring, the restart procedure, and what to do after a network or service interruption. - Verify live streaming is enabled on the YouTube channel and, for first-time streaming, complete phone verification and allow the stated 24-hour wait.
- Confirm the connected Google account owns the YouTube channel where Restream account connection is used.
- Rehearse the full path from the streaming service to YouTube, including any manual Go live action required by the Vimeo RTMP workflow.
- Decide how you will preserve a recording or create separate sessions if you need YouTube archives.
- Limit access to the stream key and identify who can replace it if exposed.
- Set a monitoring and recovery procedure; for Restream’s continuous use, account for its recommendation to restart every 24 hours.
Which should you choose?
