You cannot use Vimeo’s 24/7 Extended streaming mode to simulcast a continuous feed to YouTube. Vimeo says Extended streams do not support simulcasting. To reach YouTube through Vimeo, use a finite live event and connect YouTube as a destination; a scheduled YouTube event sent by custom RTMP may also require you to click Go live in YouTube Live Control Room after the signal arrives. What Vimeo can and cannot do for a continuous YouTube broadcast
Vimeo offers two workflows that sound similar but are different:
- Extended streaming: an encoder-fed Vimeo event that can remain active while it receives a signal. It requires Vimeo’s Enterprise add-on and cannot simulcast to YouTube or other destinations. It is not recorded or archived.
- Finite-event simulcasting: a scheduled or ordinary Vimeo event that sends a broadcast to YouTube through an integrated destination or custom RTMP. This can reach YouTube, but it is not Vimeo’s 24/7 Extended streaming mode.
Vimeo describes Extended streaming as continuous encoder streaming without time limits, but its Help Center explicitly says simulcasting is unavailable for Extended streams. See Vimeo’s Extended streaming FAQ and enablement instructions.
How to send a scheduled Vimeo event to YouTube
For a finite broadcast, Vimeo’s YouTube destination integration can start sending when the Vimeo event goes live. Alternatively, custom RTMP lets you enter YouTube’s stream endpoint and key. Your YouTube account must be verified for live streaming, and Vimeo says this workflow requires an eligible Advanced, Premium, or Enterprise with Events plan. Check the current terms on your account before scheduling.

- Prepare YouTube access. Verify that live streaming is enabled for the YouTube account. If you schedule the event in YouTube in advance, keep its Live Control Room page available for the start.
- Open the Vimeo event. Create or open the finite live event you intend to broadcast; do not select Extended streaming if YouTube is a destination.
- Connect the destination. In Vimeo, open Settings > Destinations. Connect the YouTube account for the integrated route, or add a custom RTMP destination.
- For custom RTMP, copy the credentials. In YouTube Live Control Room, copy the stream URL and stream key for the scheduled broadcast and enter them in Vimeo’s custom RTMP destination. Keep the key private.
- Start the Vimeo event and confirm YouTube is live. With the integrated destination, Vimeo sends the event when it goes live. With a scheduled YouTube RTMP event, receiving the encoder signal may not publish it: select Go live in YouTube Live Control Room when prompted.
- End the finite event deliberately. Confirm the broadcast has ended at both services and check the resulting archive settings for the event.

Why recurring events are not a nonstop broadcast
Vimeo recurring events schedule separate daily, weekly, or monthly occurrences; they do not keep one event running continuously between occurrences. Vimeo says the duration field is informational, so the operator must end each broadcast. Each occurrence counts against simultaneous-stream limits. For a recurring schedule, use Vimeo’s recurring live event instructions.

Vimeo also documents a separate prerecorded-event auto-start workflow in its web production tool. It uses a scheduled start and browser time-zone settings, can fail if concurrent-stream capacity is occupied, and does not support external encoders. It is not an external-encoder workaround for continuous YouTube streaming. Details are in Vimeo’s prerecorded auto-start guide.
Vimeo limits to check before production
Vimeo’s Live Events FAQ, accessed in 2026, lists these plan and policy limits. They can change, so verify your account’s current terms and contact Vimeo for guidance on a large event.

For finite-event simulcasting, Vimeo says an event can use up to 10 integrated destinations and up to 20 custom RTMP destinations. Destination limits do not override Extended streaming’s no-simulcast restriction. See Vimeo’s Live Events FAQ and simulcasting overview.

YouTube is missing as a destination
Check that you are configuring a finite Vimeo event, not an Extended stream. Extended streams cannot simulcast. For a finite event, verify the account plan is eligible and that the YouTube account has live streaming enabled.

The encoder is connected, but the scheduled YouTube event is not live
For the custom RTMP route, a received signal may not publish a scheduled YouTube event on its own. Open YouTube Live Control Room and select Go live.
The scheduled start did not happen
For Vimeo’s prerecorded auto-start feature, verify the scheduled time against the browser’s time-zone setting and confirm no other event is occupying the simultaneous-stream allowance. That feature uses Vimeo’s web production tool, not an external encoder.

The broadcast stops sooner than expected
Distinguish an Extended stream from a finite event or recurring occurrence. Extended streaming remains active only while encoder signal is supplied and is ended manually; Vimeo’s FAQ also lists a 12-hour per-stream limit for Advanced, Premium, and Enterprise. For recurring events, duration is informational and each occurrence must be ended by the operator.
The destination archive is split or unexpected
Vimeo notes that disabling a destination during a finite simulcast archives the event at that destination; turning it back on can create a new destination event and fragment the broadcast. Avoid toggling destinations midstream unless that outcome is intended.
