To simulcast a Vimeo live event to YouTube, connect YouTube in the Vimeo event’s Settings > Destinations panel, then start the event on Vimeo. If you need to use encoder credentials instead, add YouTube as a custom RTMP destination with YouTube’s RTMP URL and Stream Key. Livestream Studio has a separate RTMP workflow.

Choose the right connection method

Method Best for What you set up Go-live handoff
Vimeo event direct integration Connecting an eligible Vimeo event to a YouTube account Authorize YouTube from the event’s Settings > Destinations panel Start the event on Vimeo; the enabled YouTube destination simulcasts automatically
Vimeo event custom RTMP Sending the event to YouTube using encoder credentials Add a custom RTMP destination in Vimeo and enter YouTube’s RTMP URL and Stream Key For a scheduled YouTube event, you may also need to select Go live in YouTube Live Control Room
Livestream Studio RTMP Sending a Studio encoder output directly to YouTube Add YouTube in Studio and provide its Stream URL and Stream Key Select Go Live in Studio

Vimeo documents direct integration and custom RTMP as event simulcast methods. Its current documentation allows up to 10 integrated destinations and up to 20 custom RTMP destinations for an event; these are Vimeo destination limits, not YouTube channel limits. Vimeo’s YouTube simulcast instructions and simulcasting overview describe the options.

Check prerequisites before connecting

  • Vimeo plan: Event simulcasting requires an Advanced or Premium plan, or an Enterprise plan with the Events feature added, according to Vimeo’s requirements.
  • YouTube account: YouTube requires the account to be verified to go live. Be ready to sign in to the intended account or have manager access to it.
  • Event description: Do not include angle brackets (< or >) in the Vimeo event description; Vimeo warns they may prevent the video from streaming to YouTube.
  • Production setup: A live event needs a reliable internet connection and a camera connected to a supported encoder. See Vimeo’s live-streaming FAQ.

Connect YouTube with Vimeo’s direct integration

  1. Create or open the Vimeo live event.
  2. In the event’s production tool, open Settings, then Destinations.
  3. Select Connect beside YouTube.
  4. Sign in to YouTube if prompted, choose the profile or channel you intend to use, and complete the authorization prompts.
  5. Back in Vimeo, set the YouTube event privacy and save. This setting does not change the Vimeo event’s privacy.
  6. Check that the YouTube destination toggle is enabled.
  7. When ready, start the event on Vimeo. The enabled YouTube destination will simulcast automatically. You can manage the YouTube-facing title, description and privacy in YouTube Studio.

The direct method is the simpler event-level connection because you authorize the account in Vimeo rather than entering YouTube encoder credentials manually.

Connect a Vimeo event using YouTube RTMP credentials

  1. In YouTube, follow its current encoder workflow to obtain the RTMP URL and Stream Key. Keep the key private; anyone with it may be able to send a stream to your channel.
  2. Open the Vimeo event’s Settings and Destinations panel.
  3. Scroll to RTMP and select Add.
  4. Give the destination a recognizable name, then paste YouTube’s RTMP URL and Stream Key into their matching fields.
  5. Save the destination and start the event through the encoder/Vimeo workflow.
  6. If you are targeting a scheduled YouTube stream, open YouTube Live Control Room and select Go live if YouTube has not started it automatically.

Do not publish the Stream Key in a description, message, screenshot or public page. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube’s streaming settings before using it again.

  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.

Send a Livestream Studio output to YouTube

  1. In Livestream Studio, open the Stream tab and add YouTube as a provider.
  2. Enter YouTube’s Stream URL and Stream Key.
  3. Select the YouTube destination and choose Go Live in Studio.

Vimeo says its Studio YouTube workflow changed in October 2024 and now uses RTMP credentials. For accounts eligible for Vimeo event simulcasting, Vimeo recommends using the platform’s simulcast workflow instead; the Studio RTMP steps remain documented. See Vimeo’s Livestream Studio instructions.

Privacy, recurring events and destination behavior

  • Separate privacy controls: Setting YouTube privacy from Vimeo does not change the Vimeo event’s privacy. Confirm the audience setting for each service before broadcasting.
  • Recurring events: A destination enabled for a recurring Vimeo event remains enabled by default for later occurrences unless you turn it off.
  • Starting on YouTube: Some platforms require a separate action in their own portal or app. For scheduled YouTube RTMP streams, Vimeo specifically notes that you may need to select Go live in Live Control Room.
  • Changing destinations during a stream: Turning a destination off midstream archives that event on the destination immediately. Turning it on again can create a new destination event, splitting the broadcast into separate YouTube events.
  • Enterprise Workspaces: Social connections are user-specific, while sharing and privacy may be controlled at Workspace and Organization level; Organization settings take precedence.

Improve connection reliability

  • Use Ethernet on a dedicated, unshared network when practical.
  • Check upload speed regularly and keep the encoder’s outgoing bitrate well below the available upload speed so network fluctuations do not consume all headroom.
  • Use RTMPS when the encoder supports it.
  • If Vimeo reports an RTMPS destination URL error, its simulcasting overview says adding port 443 to the RTMPS URL may resolve it.

A cable is optional: it can help when a wired network suits the production setup, but it is not required to connect Vimeo and YouTube accounts. A new camera or encoder is likewise not inherently needed for the account connection; equipment depends on how you produce the event.

Troubleshoot a Vimeo-to-YouTube connection

What you see Likely cause What to check
YouTube is missing or will not authorize Wrong Google profile, insufficient account access, or the account is not eligible to go live Reconnect from the Vimeo destination panel with the intended account and confirm YouTube live verification and channel access.
The YouTube destination is configured but no stream appears The destination toggle is off, the Vimeo event has not started, or YouTube requires a separate go-live action Enable the destination, start the Vimeo event, then check YouTube Live Control Room for a pending scheduled stream and select Go live if required.
RTMP destination fails to connect Incorrect or mismatched URL/key, or an RTMPS URL issue Copy the current RTMP URL and Stream Key from YouTube into the matching Vimeo fields. If Vimeo specifically reports an RTMPS URL error, try port 443 as Vimeo documents.
Stream does not reach YouTube despite a valid destination Unsupported description characters or an unstable/overloaded upload connection Remove angle brackets from the Vimeo event description and check the network; use Ethernet if practical and reduce encoder bitrate to leave upload headroom.
YouTube archive is split into two events The destination was switched off and on during the broadcast Avoid toggling it midstream; Vimeo warns re-enabling can create a new destination event.

Or let it run in the cloud

If your goal is to keep an uploaded video looping on YouTube rather than produce a camera-based Vimeo live event, StreamNeo is a different workflow: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. The cloud keeps the stream running without a computer at home, supports the uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly billing is $9.99 per month. It streams to YouTube only and does not broadcast from a camera. Start your free StreamNeo day.
