Check two records: AdSense for YouTube shows finalized earnings and any Google withholding, while India’s Income Tax e-Filing portal shows reported Indian tax credits in Form 26AS and AIS. Google’s withholding on eligible earnings from U.S. viewers is not the same thing as Indian TDS, and a lower payout alone does not prove that either was deducted.
First, find out why the payout is lower
Compare finalized earnings with AdSense for YouTube payment transactions before calling a difference tax withholding. YouTube says estimated earnings can change because of invalid traffic, copyright claims or disputes, certain ad campaign types, taxes on eligible earnings from U.S. viewers, or policy-related payment holds and deductions. Each can affect the amount that reaches a payout, but they are not interchangeable explanations. YouTube Partner Program earnings guidance
Finalized earnings and any tax withholding are shown in AdSense for YouTube, not YouTube Analytics. In AdSense, go to Settings → Payments to view earnings and recent transactions. For a longer record, open the Transactions page and change the date range to All time. Match the transaction date and amount to the payment you are checking. Check Google’s U.S. tax information in AdSense
- Sign in to AdSense for YouTube using the account that receives your channel earnings.
- Open Payments → Payments info → Manage settings.
- Under United States tax info, select Manage tax info.
- Check the tax form status and the withholding rates shown in the tax information area. Google says the form status should be Approved.
- Compare any withholding line or rate with the finalized earnings and transaction record for the same period.
For creators outside the United States, Google describes withholding on eligible YouTube earnings from U.S. viewers. Where a non-U.S. creator has provided U.S. tax information, Google states a 0–30% range for applicable U.S.-viewer earnings; the rate depends on submitted tax information, account details, and treaty eligibility. In some account situations, missing tax information can lead to withholding of up to 24% of worldwide earnings. Neither figure is a general Indian TDS rate, and the 24% figure is conditional rather than universal. Check Google’s U.S. tax requirements guidance for the current rules and your account’s applicable rate.
Google says monetizing creators should review their tax information annually. A submitted form expires at the end of the third full calendar year after the year it was signed; a change in circumstances that affects its validity may also require resubmission. Google’s U.S. tax requirements guidance
Check Indian tax-credit records separately
- Sign in to the Income Tax e-Filing portal and select the relevant financial year and PAN.
- Open Form 26AS and look for reported TDS/TCS information for the period.
- Open the Annual Information Statement (AIS) for the same year. AIS includes TDS/TCS as well as other information, such as specified financial transactions and tax payments.
- Compare any tax-credit entry with the payer, amount, and period shown in the relevant record.
The Income Tax Department says Form 26AS contains TDS/TCS information. Since AY 2023–24, its AIS FAQ says Form 26AS on TRACES displays TDS/TCS data while other taxpayer information appears in AIS. These are Indian tax records; they answer a different question from the U.S. tax form status and withholding shown by Google. An absent entry does not, by itself, determine your total tax liability or the treatment of foreign tax withheld. Income Tax Department AIS guidance
Resolve a mismatch in a documented order
- Confirm the AdSense account, PAN, financial year, and payment date you are comparing.
- Record AdSense finalized earnings, transaction entries, U.S. tax form status, and any withholding line or rate.
- Check Form 26AS and AIS for the same period, noting any Indian TDS/TCS or tax-payment entry.
- Identify the payer and jurisdiction for each amount. Do not treat a U.S. withholding entry and an Indian TDS credit as the same deduction without evidence.
- If an Indian TDS credit is missing or incorrect, follow the Department’s Form 26AS guidance and contact the deductor responsible for the relevant record. If the Google payment record or U.S. withholding remains unclear, contact Google support or a qualified tax adviser.
The Income Tax Department describes Form 16A as a quarterly certificate for TDS on income other than salary, showing the amount credited, TDS amount, nature of payment, and deposited TDS. If a credit reported in a return differs from Form 26AS, official mismatch guidance says to inform the deductor responsible for the deduction; a correction to the deductor’s TDS return or form may be needed. #1 Best Overall
Keep payment timing separate from tax withholding
YouTube says finalized earnings are generally added to the account balance between the 7th and 12th of the month, and payments are generally issued between the 21st and 26th if payment requirements are met. These are general payment windows, not evidence that a deduction is tax. Check the transaction record for the amount and reason. YouTube earnings and payment guidance

What this check can—and cannot—tell you
AdSense for YouTube can show Google’s payment calculations and any applicable U.S. withholding; Form 26AS and AIS can show reported Indian tax information. Together, they help identify what was withheld or credited and by whom. They do not settle how every creator should report monetized YouTube income in India. YouTube says it cannot provide tax advice, and Google withholding does not remove the need to consider tax obligations in your country of residence. For your Indian filing treatment, consult the Income Tax Department or a qualified Indian tax professional. YouTube tax guidance
