Use Indian Standard Time (IST, UTC+05:30) for the schedule, create an upcoming event in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, then start and monitor the encoder yourself. Scheduling a live event is not the same as scheduling a broadcast to run forever: YouTube’s documented workflow covers setting up and launching an event, not recurring 24/7 playout. For an always-on channel, plan separately for continuous playback, reconnects, monitoring and preserving recordings.
Which time zone should you announce?
Use one national reference: IST (UTC+05:30), and include the calendar date and clock time in your announcement. India does not need separate regional time-zone conversions for a nationwide schedule. The Government of India’s Department of Consumer Affairs describes IST as UTC plus 5 hours 30 minutes and says it is maintained by CSIR-National Physical Laboratory: Department of Consumer Affairs.
A Department of Consumer Affairs release dated 30 August 2026 says the notified IST rules are to take effect 180 days after publication in the Official Gazette; that announcement alone does not establish that the rules are already in force. For a viewer-facing YouTube timetable, the practical point remains simple: label the time IST (UTC+05:30), rather than inventing regional Indian schedule zones.
Schedule an upcoming YouTube live event
- Open Live Control Room. In YouTube Studio, select Create → Go live → Manage → Schedule stream. Choose to reuse settings from a previous stream or create a new event. YouTube’s current encoder workflow is documented in its streaming with an encoder guide.
- Set the event details. Add a clear title, choose visibility and set the date and time. State the time zone in the title, description or promotional post, for example, “Daily radio stream — 7:00 p.m. IST (UTC+05:30), 12 October.” Share the upcoming watch page if you want viewers to find the event early; viewers can use YouTube’s Notify me option where available.
- Copy the stream URL and key into your encoder. These are shown in Live Control Room. The encoder sends the audio/video feed to YouTube; scheduling the event does not supply program content or start playback by itself. Treat the stream key as a password: anyone who has it may be able to send a feed to your channel. YouTube explains the connection steps in its encoder setup instructions and stream settings guidance.
- Start the encoder before the event, check preview, then go live. Start the encoder and wait for the incoming preview in Live Control Room. Confirm that the correct audio and video are present, then select Go live when ready. YouTube recommends preparing the encoder setup at least two hours in advance and starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled event; these are preparation recommendations, not uptime guarantees. Plan the 24/7 operation separately from the event
A scheduled event gives viewers a time and watch page; it does not remove the need to keep the program feed running. Before calling a stream “24/7,” decide who or what will keep the encoder and playback active, detect a failure, restart the feed and monitor what viewers see during a handoff. YouTube’s reviewed scheduling instructions do not establish a recurring schedule that automatically runs forever or guarantee automatic reconnection. If you use an external playout service, verify its current YouTube compatibility and recovery behavior before depending on it.

- Identify the person or system responsible for monitoring and restarting the stream.
- Decide what viewers will see and hear during a connection failure or planned handoff.
- Test backup-encoder failover in advance if you rely on one. YouTube’s tips recommend testing it.
- Check that any local recording is actually being written and that storage is available.
For a locally managed encoder, the computer, playback source and internet connection are part of the operating plan. A separate cloud playout service may shift some of that responsibility, but its restart, monitoring and archive capabilities must be checked rather than assumed.
Do not rely on one 24-hour YouTube archive
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived. It also warns that a stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. That is a possibility, not a promise that every shorter stream will be preserved under every circumstance. See YouTube’s archive live streams guidance.

If replay preservation matters, keep your own recordings and consider planned shorter broadcast segments, while accounting for the interruption or transition viewers may experience between events. YouTube recommends verifying that the local archive is growing and monitoring stream quality. Do not promise a complete replay of a continuous 24-hour broadcast based only on YouTube’s automatic archiving.

Copyright and programming checks for a radio-style stream
Before scheduling, make sure you have the rights needed to use every track, recording, image and other element in the broadcast. A live format does not itself grant permission to rebroadcast copyrighted material. Keep a record of licences or permissions and review YouTube’s applicable copyright and live-streaming policies before going on air. Also plan original programming or meaningful editorial context where appropriate; permission to use material and compliance with YouTube’s monetization or reused-content policies are distinct questions.
