To stream a pre-recorded playlist on YouTube around the clock without leaving a computer on, use a cloud streaming service that loops uploaded videos and sends them to YouTube as an encoder feed. How the cloud workflow works
A YouTube Live broadcast is an incoming encoder feed, not simply a public YouTube playlist. The cloud platform plays your uploaded files in sequence or on a loop and sends the resulting feed to YouTube using the stream URL and stream key. Once configured, the platform—not your home computer—does the playback and streaming work.
YouTube’s encoder guidance identifies cloud tools for 24/7 prerecorded streams, including Gyre. Its listing describes Gyre as not requiring a dedicated PC; that is a vendor listing, not a guarantee of uptime or performance.
Before you start
- Enable livestreaming. YouTube requires channel verification and no livestream restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time enablement can take up to 24 hours. Check YouTube’s live-stream eligibility rules.
- Prepare the videos. Have the files you intend to play ready to upload. Confirm that the cloud service accepts their formats, sizes, and resolutions; limits vary by service and plan.
- Confirm your rights. You must have the necessary rights for all content, including music. A livestream can be interrupted by YouTube’s copyright detection even when you believe you have permission.
- Keep a separate archive if needed. YouTube may not archive a continuous stream longer than 12 hours. Keep your own copy if you need a durable recording.
Set up the 24/7 stream
- Choose a cloud platform. Confirm that it supports continuous playback of uploaded videos or playlists, sends an encoder feed to YouTube, and offers controls that fit your scheduling and monitoring needs. Check current file limits and plan details directly with the provider.
- Enable live streaming on the channel. Complete any YouTube verification or eligibility steps and allow time for first-time activation.
- Create or schedule a live stream. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create a stream. Scheduling can create an upcoming watch page for viewers. Follow the stream setup prompts shown in Studio.
- Upload and arrange the videos in the cloud platform. Build the playlist or loop in the order you want viewers to see. Check the platform’s current file and playlist limits before relying on a long-running schedule.
- Connect YouTube. Copy the stream URL and stream key from the YouTube live settings into the cloud platform’s encoder or destination settings. Treat the key like a password: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your channel. See YouTube’s live stream settings guidance.
- Check the preview, then go live. Verify that the correct video and audio appear in the Live Control Room. Start the feed from the cloud platform and complete any final go-live step shown in YouTube Studio for the scheduled stream.
- Monitor the broadcast. Check that playback continues and that the stream remains connected. Do not assume every platform handles a YouTube disconnect, playlist error, or expired key in the same way; confirm its recovery and alerting behavior before depending on it.
Choose a cloud option for this use case
For a continuous prerecorded playlist, compare whether the service automates looping, needs a local computer, supports the files and resolutions you have, offers monitoring and recovery, and fits your scheduling and archive workflow. Protect the channel and its monetization eligibility
Copyright and live detection
YouTube’s livestream terms make the channel operator responsible for having the necessary rights to the live content, including music licensing rights. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content and may replace the stream with a placeholder, interrupt it, or terminate it if a match remains. If you have licensed third-party material, the rights holder may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist; otherwise a stream can still be interrupted. Reused content and monetization
Being live or accumulating watch time does not guarantee monetization. YouTube applies its channel monetization policies to livestreams and assesses originality and authenticity across the channel. Repetitive or mass-produced content may be ineligible. Copyright permission and monetization eligibility are separate: permission to use a work does not by itself make a channel eligible for monetization.
Archives for long broadcasts
YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; a continuous broadcast longer than 12 hours may not be archived. If you need a complete recording, preserve a separate local or cloud archive rather than relying on the YouTube replay. See YouTube’s live-stream archiving guidance.
