Before you begin, make sure the channel is eligible for live streaming and plan for YouTube’s limits on archives and DVR for broadcasts longer than 12 hours.
What you need before starting
- A verified YouTube channel with no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days. The streamer must be at least 16. First-time live-stream activation may take up to 24 hours. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance covers these requirements.
- A cloud service that can play prerecorded video continuously and send a live feed to YouTube. YouTube’s encoder guide lists Gyre as a cloud-based option for 24/7 prerecorded video. That listing is an example, not a guarantee of its current features, price, limits, or service commitments.
- A YouTube live stream, its server or stream URL, and its stream key.
- Video files the service can store and play, plus a reliable upload connection for transferring them to the dashboard.
A cloud dashboard takes the place of a local encoder: it sends the feed to YouTube while your own computer can be off. You still need to create or select the YouTube live stream and provide the credentials that connect the two.

Before committing to any provider, check the details that determine whether it will work for your channel and schedule:

- Continuous playback: Does it loop a single video or a playlist, and can it keep operating continuously?
- YouTube connection: Which ingest protocols and output settings does it support?
- Recovery and monitoring: What happens after a dropped connection or interrupted feed? Are there restart controls, alerts, or monitoring tools?
- Files and workflow: How do you upload, organize, and replace videos? What storage limits apply?
- Availability and terms: Check supported regions, current limits, pricing, and any uptime commitments directly with the provider.
YouTube also lists AWS Elemental MediaLive as a cloud live-video processing service. That identifies it as an option for broadcast processing; it does not establish that it offers a turnkey dashboard or a specific prerecorded 24/7 looping feature. Confirm that a service meets your workflow before choosing it.
Set up the YouTube live stream and connect the dashboard
- Confirm live-stream access. In YouTube, verify the channel and check that it meets the eligibility requirements. If live streaming has not been activated on the channel before, allow up to 24 hours for activation.
- Create or select a stream. Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room. Create a live stream or select one you have already configured. YouTube’s setup uses a server or stream URL and a stream key; see its stream settings guidance.
- Open your cloud service’s stream settings. Add the YouTube server or stream URL and stream key, or select a YouTube preset if the service provides one. Make sure the dashboard’s output protocol and settings are compatible with the YouTube stream configuration.
- Upload the video or build a playlist. Select the prerecorded material you want to play. Check the order, loop behavior, audio, and any scheduled transitions in the dashboard before going live.
- Start the feed and check the preview. Start streaming from the cloud dashboard, then wait for the incoming feed to appear in Live Control Room. Review the picture and sound and check that viewers can open the watch page.
- Begin the live broadcast and monitor it. Use the controls in Live Control Room to make the stream public or otherwise available as intended. Watch the stream’s status and quality rather than assuming that a dashboard’s “started” state means YouTube is receiving a healthy feed.
Protect the stream key and choose an ingest protocol
Keep the stream key private
YouTube describes stream keys as “your YouTube stream’s password and address.” Treat the key like a password: do not put it on a public page, share it in screenshots, or give it to anyone who does not need it. If it is exposed, reset it in Live Control Room and replace the old key in the cloud dashboard; the service cannot send to the stream using a key that YouTube has reset. Use a protocol supported by both sides
YouTube documents RTMPS and HLS ingestion. RTMPS is RTMP sent over TLS/SSL, which encrypts the connection in transit. HLS may be useful for HDR or codecs that RTMP does not support, but its segmented delivery has higher latency. Confirm that both your chosen dashboard and the YouTube stream support the protocol you select; do not assume that a setting available in one is available in the other. Test before relying on the stream
Run a test before announcing the broadcast or leaving it unattended. YouTube recommends checking the stream in advance and monitoring its audio and video. Use Live Control Room to verify that the incoming preview appears, the picture and sound are correct, and the intended watch page is reachable. Where a recording or archive matters, check the resulting file rather than assuming it is complete. See YouTube’s encoder guidance.

Also establish how the provider handles looping, a dropped connection, restarts, and alerts. Those behaviors vary by service; check its current documentation or support instead of assuming that a continuous playlist automatically recovers from every interruption.
Plan for YouTube’s archive and DVR limits
A continuous live feed is not the same as a guaranteed full-length replay. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. For streams longer than 12 hours, DVR rewind may be limited or unavailable. A single uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast therefore should not be treated as a dependable complete archive or as a stream viewers can necessarily rewind through in full. If you need replays, plan a separate recording or shorter broadcast schedule and check YouTube’s current behavior before relying on its archive. See YouTube’s encoder guide and DVR guidance.
