What “custom thumbnail support” means
Thumbnail controls can apply to different things: a YouTube event preview before a broadcast, an image uploaded through a streaming service during event creation, or the thumbnail associated with a saved recording. Scheduled broadcasts are not the same as 24/7 streaming
A scheduled event can publish an upcoming broadcast and let viewers set reminders, but scheduling alone does not keep a channel live. StreamYard explicitly says the scheduled broadcast does not start automatically. YouTube’s Live Control Room is where creators manage live streams and their settings. A third-party service’s thumbnail workflow should be understood in the context of the particular event or stream type it documents, rather than assumed to control every YouTube thumbnail.
How to choose and verify the workflow
- Decide whether you need an always-on stream or a scheduled event. For a continuous prerecorded stream, look for documentation that explicitly says 24/7 or continuous streaming. An event scheduler alone is not enough.
- Identify which thumbnail you need. Check whether the service lets you set the preview on an upcoming YouTube event, a thumbnail for a prerecorded stream, or the saved recording image.
- Confirm the plan and duration limits. OneStream Live states that its 24/7 feature requires Enterprise and allows up to 30 days per stream. Ask providers about plan-specific restrictions where their documentation does not spell them out.
- Check where changes take effect. Restream notes that some destinations may not support custom details and may not reflect edits made after a stream starts. Verify the thumbnail on the YouTube event itself.
- Review YouTube’s live and content rules. A streaming tool does not grant rights to documentaries, music, or other material you upload. Use content you own or are licensed to stream, and check YouTube’s policies before running a continuous channel.
