You can stream recorded Tamil church services continuously on YouTube by sending prerecorded video through an encoder using a stream URL and key from YouTube Studio. First enable live streaming on the channel, then test the video, audio, rights, and internet connection before going live. Before you start: check the channel and the recordings
- Live-stream eligibility: YouTube requires a verified channel with no live-streaming restrictions during the previous 90 days. Enabling live streaming for the first time can take up to 24 hours, so do not leave activation until the service is due to begin. - Rights: Make sure the church has permission for everything in the broadcast, including music, readings, slides, and other third-party material. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; detection can interrupt the stream. A license may not be enough to prevent interruption if the rights holder needs to allowlist the channel through Content ID. YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams explains the scanning process.
- Recording copies: Keep a separate local copy of each service. YouTube may automatically archive streams under 12 hours, but streams that exceed 12 hours may not be captured at all. See YouTube’s live-stream archive guidance.
- Playback plan: Decide which services or excerpts will play, in what order, and whether the stream should loop or change at set times. Confirm that your chosen encoder supports the desired playlist, transitions, and recovery behavior; these vary by service.
Create the YouTube live stream and get its key
- In YouTube Studio, open the live-stream creation flow and create or schedule a stream. Choose the intended visibility and check that the resulting watch page is accessible to the people who should view it.
- In the stream’s encoder settings in Live Control Room, copy the YouTube stream URL and stream key. Keep the key private: anyone with it may be able to send video to that stream.
- In your encoder, enter the stream URL and key in its YouTube or custom RTMP destination settings. Select the recording or playlist and configure continuous playback if the encoder supports it.
- Start the encoder and wait for its feed to appear in Live Control Room. Preview the stream there before making it public or beginning the scheduled broadcast. YouTube’s encoder instructions cover the URL-and-key workflow and first-time activation.
Choose how the recorded services will keep playing
Computer-based software encoder
Software on a computer can send a recording or playlist to YouTube. It gives the church direct control of playback, but the computer, encoder, and network connection must remain available for the full broadcast. Configure the encoder to loop the authorized recordings and test what happens after a network drop or a computer restart. Do not assume that every encoder handles reconnects or scheduled changes the same way.
Dedicated hardware encoder
A hardware encoder can send a feed without relying on general-purpose streaming software, but its suitability depends on the device and the church’s existing workflow. Confirm that it can play the required files or receive them from a separate playback source, and check its playlist, looping, and recovery features before relying on it. YouTube describes hardware and software encoders, but the guidance does not make a dedicated device mandatory.
Cloud playback for unattended streaming
A cloud service can keep prerecorded playback running without a computer at the church staying on. YouTube’s encoder guidance lists Gyre as an example of a cloud-based service for 24/7 prerecorded-video streaming; that mention is not a comparison or verification of any vendor’s current price or features. Check any service’s playlist behavior, recovery after YouTube disconnects, storage limits, schedule options, support, and handoff process before choosing it.

Test picture, sound, and connection before going public
- Run a private or unlisted test and inspect the Live Control Room preview. Check that the Tamil audio is clear, the video is correctly framed, and any slides or captions are legible.
- Open the watch page from the channel and on a phone to confirm that intended viewers can reach it and that playback works outside the encoder preview.
- Calculate the encoder’s total bitrate and make sure the available upload bandwidth is at least 20% higher than that total. Include primary and backup streams in the total if both are being sent. YouTube’s streaming tips recommend 20% upload-bandwidth headroom and warn that shared networks and outages can impair a stream.
- Keep the stream and playback under observation during the test. Confirm that audio remains present, the video does not freeze, and the selected encoder behaves as expected if its network connection is interrupted.
Go live and protect the broadcast
Once the test passes, start the scheduled stream or make the live stream public according to the setup you chose. For an unattended broadcast, arrange monitoring and a clear handoff so someone can respond to a stopped encoder, a network outage, or a YouTube interruption. A continuous stream is an operational commitment: a local computer-based setup depends on the machine and local internet remaining available, while cloud playback removes the need to leave a computer running at the church.

Troubleshooting common failures
The stream will not start
Check that live streaming is enabled and the channel meets YouTube’s eligibility requirements. First-time activation may take up to 24 hours. Recheck that the encoder has the correct stream URL and current key, then confirm that its feed appears in Live Control Room.
The picture or audio stutters
Check the actual upload capacity while the stream is running, including other traffic on the shared connection. Compare it with the encoder’s total bitrate and preserve the recommended 20% headroom. Reduce competing network use or adjust the encoder’s bitrate if the connection cannot sustain the current load.

YouTube interrupts the stream over content
Review the detected material and confirm that the church has the necessary rights. If the content is licensed, ask the rights holder whether the channel must be allowlisted through Content ID; licensing alone may not prevent automated live interruption.
The broadcast ends or does not reconnect
Determine whether the encoder, computer, or internet connection stopped sending. Reconnect behavior depends on the chosen encoder, so test it before relying on unattended playback. If using a cloud service, verify its recovery behavior and whether it resumes the same stream or starts a new one.

The church cannot find the archive
Check the stream’s duration and retain the local recording. Streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured by YouTube’s automatic archiving.
