Calculate both over the same period, then account for hardware, home internet, setup and monitoring. For a 30-day month, a 120 W PC uses 86.4 kWh; that is an illustrative calculation, not a typical draw for every computer.
Calculate what your PC costs to run
Use this formula for a steady average load:
Electricity cost = (average watts ÷ 1,000) × operating hours × electricity price per kWh.
A 30-day month has 720 hours. Using the 120 W example in StreamNeo’s comparison, the calculation is 0.120 kW × 720 hours = 86.4 kWh. Multiply 86.4 by your tariff to get the modeled energy charge in your own currency. For example, if your electricity costs T per kWh, the result is 86.4 × T. This is arithmetic based on an example input, not a measurement of every PC’s consumption.
Use your own power draw
A computer’s draw depends on its components and workload. Use a reliable estimate for the system while it is actually streaming, or measure it at the wall with an optional plug-in electricity usage monitor. Then multiply that average wattage by the hours it will run and your local tariff. If the machine’s load changes substantially, a single idle or peak reading may not represent its average use.

Match the billing period
For another period, substitute its actual operating hours: watts divided by 1,000 gives kilowatts, which you multiply by hours and the tariff per kWh. Use the same period for the cloud-service quote. A 30-day estimate is not automatically the same as a calendar-month electricity bill.
Compare the full cost, not just electricity
The local option’s direct energy cost is only part of its operating cost. Consider hardware wear and the time spent setting up, monitoring and recovering the stream. A local PC also depends on power and a working home upload connection. Do not assign a precise value to those factors unless you can estimate them for your own setup.

For a cloud option, check the current full price and what the plan includes over the period you need. Look for storage or slot limits and any other charges relevant to your workflow. “Cloud service” is not one uniform product: Google Cloud’s configurable Live Stream API, for example, has resource-based charges for active channel time and configured inputs and outputs, with other charges possible. It is not a managed subscription for looping prerecorded video, so its pricing is not a valid stand-in for one. See Google Cloud’s Live Stream API pricing for that API’s billing model.
There is not enough information to declare a universal winner or a precise break-even point. Your result depends on the PC’s measured or estimated average draw, your local tariff, the service’s current price and limits, and how you value ongoing operation and oversight.

Check that each option fits your stream
YouTube supports encoder-based streaming through software on a computer or a standalone hardware encoder. Its official encoder setup and directory describes OBS as open-source software at no charge and lists cloud options for 24/7 prerecorded streams. The directory establishes that both approaches exist; it is not an endorsement or a price comparison.
Quality and connection requirements still matter, whichever workflow you choose. YouTube advises configuring the encoder for an upload connection that can reliably support the selected bitrate, testing with representative audio and motion, and monitoring stream health. Its recommended bitrate varies by codec, resolution and frame rate. For example, its guidance lists H.264 at 1080p30 as 5–14 Mbps and AV1 or H.265 at 1080p30 as 4–10 Mbps. YouTube recommends RTMPS. Check the current YouTube encoder settings for the configuration you intend to use; recommendations can change.

Local PC
A local encoder can suit a creator who wants to manage the stream on their own equipment and is comfortable keeping the computer and connection available. Include the actual streaming workload in the power estimate rather than assuming the PC’s idle draw. You remain responsible for the machine, connection, encoder and monitoring.
Managed cloud service
A managed service for prerecorded video can remove the need to keep a home PC running for the stream. Compare its current plan and limits with your local cost and needs. Do not assume all cloud platforms offer the same workflow, price structure or recovery behavior.
