Outbyte Driver Updater FREEScan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteDriver Scan →Outbyte PC Repair FREERepair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsFix Now →Measure the integrated loudness of each finished video with the same meter, adjust gain to bring them into line, then check peaks and listen to the exported files. If loud and quiet sections vary too much within a video, address that first with automation or compression: turning the whole mix up or down does not reduce its internal dynamics. YouTube does not publish a universal creator-side LUFS target in the cited guidance, and viewer-side playback features can change how a mix sounds.
What normalization does—and what it does not do
Normalization applies gain to a signal to bring it to a chosen level. For matching whole videos, the useful comparison is integrated loudness: an average perceived loudness measurement taken over the program. Measure the complete finished mix, not just a brief loud or quiet moment.
- Integrated loudness helps compare the perceived average level of complete programs.
- Peak level and true peak describe brief maximum levels and help identify clipping or insufficient headroom. A peak reading alone does not tell you whether two videos sound equally loud.
- Compression and automation control differences between loud and quiet passages within a program. They can help when dialogue, music, or source clips are uneven.
- Limiting constrains peaks. It does not balance a mix or replace loudness measurement, and excessive limiting can alter the sound.
For a broadcast reference—not a YouTube requirement—the European Broadcasting Union’s EBU R 128 version 5.0, published 21 November 2023, recommends an average programme loudness of −23 LUFS and uses Loudness Range and Maximum True Peak Level descriptors. Do not treat that recommendation, −14 LUFS, or another commonly repeated number as a universal YouTube target: the cited YouTube help pages do not set one for creators.
A consistent workflow for multiple videos
1. Finish balancing the mix first
Balance dialogue, music, clips, and transitions at track or bus level. If quiet speech disappears under music or one section is much louder than the rest, use automation or moderate compression before applying a whole-program gain adjustment. A single gain change moves all sections together; it cannot fix their relative differences.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
2. Measure each complete program the same way
Use a loudness meter that reports integrated loudness, rather than relying only on a momentary peak meter. Measure each finished program from beginning to end using the same meter method and delivery context. Record the results so you can compare the videos and apply a consistent channel workflow.
3. Choose and document a channel target
Set a target that fits your channel’s material and listening context, then use it consistently. There is no universal creator-side YouTube LUFS target established by the cited official guidance. Do not promise identical playback loudness for every viewer, device, or video.

4. Adjust gain, then check peak headroom
Apply gain to move each program toward your chosen target. Separately inspect peak or true-peak levels and keep the finished signal below 0 dBFS to avoid digital clipping. A limiter can catch peaks, but should not be the only method used to make videos sound consistent. If export encoding may alter peaks, inspect the encoded file as well as the mix before export.
5. Listen to the exported file
Listen through dialogue, music under speech, quiet passages, and transitions. Check a mono playback path too. YouTube’s audio troubleshooting guidance notes that poor phase compatibility can reduce quality or mute sound when stereo audio is converted to mono; verify that the channels are in phase. Meter readings do not replace listening.

6. Check how YouTube playback may affect the result
YouTube documents Stable volume as a viewer-side feature that balances quiet and loud portions. Its help page says the feature is on by default when watching videos, is not available for every video, and can be toggled by viewers. YouTube also documents creator controls for audio enhancements on future uploads. These playback settings may affect how a carefully prepared mix is heard, so assess the result in the relevant playback context rather than assuming the upload alone determines perceived loudness.

- Integrated loudness measured with the same method.
- Peak or true-peak headroom as a separate clipping-safety check.
- Dialogue-to-music balance and the variation between loud and quiet passages.
- Mono compatibility, especially for material mixed in stereo.
- Playback with relevant YouTube enhancement settings in mind.
If two videos have similar integrated loudness but one still feels much louder in places, look at its internal dynamics and dialogue-to-music balance. More whole-program gain adjustment will not correct that variation.

DaVinci Resolve’s Fairlight tools support loudness monitoring, normalization, and dynamics processing; Blackmagic Design’s Resolve 18.6 New Features Guide lists a YouTube loudness standard option. This is a software workflow option, not evidence that YouTube requires that preset or a particular LUFS value. OBS documents mixer meters and a Limiter filter for controlling peaks above 0 dB; those tools can help monitor a live audio mix, but a peak meter alone is not integrated-loudness matching.
