There is no single reliable monthly rupee total for a 24/7 4K 60fps YouTube Live stream in India. Your cost depends on the video bitrate and codec, the encoder’s measured power use, your electricity tariff and broadband terms, and whether you encode locally or use a cloud service. Start with the bitrate: YouTube recommends 35 Mbps for AV1 or H.265 at 2160p60, and 50 Mbps for H.264. At those constant rates, the video payload alone is about 11.34 TB or 16.2 TB over 30 days.
What determines the monthly cost?
For a locally encoded stream, budget for the incremental broadband cost, electricity for the encoder and networking equipment, and any hardware, backup connection or power equipment you need. For a cloud setup, include the encoding or channel service, any virtual machine or other infrastructure, applicable network transfer charges, and the cost of getting a source feed to the cloud. Your viewers’ playback is delivered by YouTube; it is not the same as sending a separate full-bitrate copy from your connection to every viewer. YouTube says it transcodes live input into output formats for viewers (YouTube live encoder guidance).
The most predictable recurring inputs are the chosen bitrate and the hours the stream runs. Electricity can be estimated once you measure actual wall draw. Broadband and cloud costs need your specific address, plan and configuration. No official published figure establishes a total price for this exact 24/7 setup across India.
How much data does 24/7 4K 60fps streaming use?
YouTube’s recommended 2160p60 bitrates
| Video codec | YouTube minimum | YouTube recommended | Approximate 30-day video payload at recommended rate |
|---|---|---|---|
| AV1 or H.265/HEVC | 10 Mbps | 35 Mbps | 11.34 TB decimal (about 10.31 TiB) |
| H.264 | 14 Mbps | 50 Mbps | 16.2 TB decimal (about 14.73 TiB) |
The payload figures are calculations from YouTube’s recommended bitrates, not YouTube-published data-use statistics. They assume a constant bitrate for 30 days of 24 hours (720 hours). Actual transferred bytes can be higher because of transport overhead, reconnects, and audio if its bitrate is additional to the stated video bitrate. A 31-day month at the same fixed bitrate uses about 3.3% more than the 30-day calculation. YouTube specifies RTMP or RTMPS, recommends RTMPS, and recommends constant bitrate (CBR) encoding. Its full encoder settings and bitrate guidance also advises testing with representative motion and monitoring stream health.

What those data figures mean for your internet plan
A 35–50 Mbps video feed requires sustained upload capacity at that bitrate, plus headroom for overhead and fluctuations. A plan’s advertised or “unlimited” label does not establish that it can sustain the required upload continuously. Check the actual upload speed, any fair-use threshold, the speed after that threshold, service terms and availability at your address. The relevant broadband expense is the incremental cost if your existing connection cannot handle the stream—not automatically the full household bill.
TRAI publishes tariff resources and a broadband plan report dated 24 October 2025, but those materials do not establish a single plan available everywhere in India with guaranteed continuous upload capacity for this workload.

How to calculate the local electricity cost
Measure the whole continuous load
Measure average wall draw while the encoder is doing the real encoding job; a CPU or GPU’s rated maximum is not the same as average power use. Include the router, modem, cooling and UPS losses if they run continuously. A plug-in wall meter can help measure an individual device; for a combined setup, use a meter suited to the circuit and have it installed safely.
- Measure the average continuous load in watts under the actual streaming workload.
- Calculate monthly energy use for a 30-day month:
average watts × 720 ÷ 1,000 = monthly kWh. - Multiply monthly kWh by your applicable marginal electricity rate in rupees per kWh, then account for relevant fixed charges, duties or other bill components.
For scale, each continuous 100 W of average load uses 72 kWh in a 30-day month. This is an energy calculation, not an India-wide electricity price. The applicable tariff depends on state, utility, consumer category, tariff period and any subsidy. The CEA 2025 tariff book contains state and category tables. The Ministry of Power states that state electricity regulatory commissions determine retail tariffs and that state governments may subsidize consumer classes (Ministry of Power release, 10 August 2026). Check your utility’s current schedule and your own bill before converting kWh into rupees.

Local encoder, managed cloud or a service built for looping?
| Approach | Costs to include | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| Encoder at home or on-site | Incremental broadband, measured electricity, hardware purchase or depreciation, and any backup power or connection. | Sustained upload and fair-use terms; actual wall draw; what happens during an outage or encoder failure. |
| Managed cloud encoding | Channel or encoding charges, any VM or other infrastructure, source-feed costs, monitoring and any billable transfer for the selected route. | Region, input and output resolution, codec, active hours, network architecture and taxes. A cloud provider’s specific transfer exemption may apply only to a particular destination or route. |
| StreamNeo | One slot price for the chosen duration; every slot includes 10 GB storage, pooled across active slots. | It loops uploaded videos and playlists to YouTube from the cloud. It is not a camera-based live encoder or a service for streaming to other platforms. |
Estimating Google Cloud Live Stream API costs
Google Cloud’s Live Stream API is one managed encoding example, not a universal price proxy for cloud streaming. Google charges based on active channel time and input/output resolution and codec; the minimum charge is ten minutes and active duration rounds up to the nearest minute. A continuously active 30-day channel has a 720-hour time basis, but a rupee estimate also needs the region, configuration, codec tier, currency and taxes. See Live Stream API pricing. If your design also uses a VM, its machine type and region affect the price; Google recommends its general-purpose VM pricing information and calculator for estimates.
Network charges depend on the route. Google lists traffic from a VM to specific Google products, including YouTube, as no charge; that should not be generalized to every architecture or destination. Its network pricing separately lists India-to-India VM-to-Google-Cloud-service transfer rates for relevant traffic categories. Check the exact route and category in Google Cloud network pricing.

- Stunning quality: Stream and record in 1080p60 or even 4K60 for razor-sharp detail (Requires a compatible camera and the latest Cam Link 4K model)
- Connect More Than Just Cameras: Use a camcorder, action cam, or even your iPhone to level up your content
- No Lag, No Delays: Ultra-low latency keeps your video and audio perfectly in sync, just like it should be
- Your iPad, Now a Pro Field Monitor: Preview your shots in real time on an iPad with USB-C
How to build your own estimate
- Choose your encoding target. For 2160p60, use YouTube’s recommended 35 Mbps for AV1/H.265 or 50 Mbps for H.264 as the starting point. Use CBR and RTMPS as recommended by YouTube, and test with typical motion.
- Calculate the monthly upload volume. Use the 30-day figures above as video-payload estimates; add margin for overhead, reconnects and separately counted audio. Verify whether your ISP’s terms and upload service can support continuous use.
- Measure power rather than guessing. Record average wall draw for the encoding workload and always-on networking equipment, then apply the kWh formula to your own tariff.
- Price only the costs your setup adds. For a local system, separate any broadband upgrade and hardware or backup costs from bills you already pay. For cloud, select a region and exact channel, VM and network configuration before using provider pricing tools.
- Allow for continuity. Decide whether you need backup internet, a UPS, spare hardware or monitoring, and include their recurring or upfront costs where applicable.
Or let it run in the cloud
StreamNeo keeps a YouTube channel live by looping uploaded recordings or playlists. Upload your video, add your YouTube stream key, and go live; the cloud continues the stream without keeping your computer or home connection running. It automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. There is one flat price per slot for any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps, with no re-encode or quality tiers. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. The monthly option is $9.99 per month. UPI and cards are supported in India; card checkout is available worldwide. For five or more slots, contact support. See StreamNeo for plan details, or start the free first day.
What can make a 24/7 stream cost more or fail?
- Upload capacity is lower than expected: confirm sustained upload at the stream location, not just the plan’s download speed. Leave headroom above encoder bitrate and test stream health under representative motion.
- Fair-use limits change the economics: check the data threshold and post-threshold speed in the ISP’s terms. A nominal unlimited allowance does not guarantee sustained performance.
- Power estimates use a component rating: measure wall draw during encoding and account for networking, cooling and UPS losses that also run continuously.
- A cloud estimate omits configuration details: verify region, active time, codec and resolution for every input and output, along with any VM, source feed, taxes and network route.
- Transfer pricing is assumed to be universally free: check the exact destination and architecture. Google’s stated VM-to-YouTube treatment is route-specific and does not establish that all cloud transfers are free.
- The stream stops after a disconnect: test recovery behavior and have a plan for local power or broadband outages if you encode on-site. For cloud services, check the service’s recovery behavior rather than assuming it.
Can you stream 24/7 on YouTube for free?
You can avoid a separate streaming-service charge if you already have suitable equipment and an internet plan, but that does not make the operation cost-free: electricity, broadband capacity, equipment and backup arrangements can still add costs. YouTube’s bitrate guidance also means a 24/7 recommended-rate stream moves substantial data. StreamNeo offers a first day free without a card, limited to one free day per account; that is a trial, not a claim that ongoing operation has no cost.
