For a configurable, broadcast-style cloud encoding pipeline that you operate yourself, AWS Elemental MediaLive is the strongest documented candidate in the available evidence—but that evidence does not establish it as the cheapest option or guarantee a particular channel’s uptime.
Which cloud service fits a 24/7 YouTube channel?
- StreamNeo — best fit for looping uploaded videos with less infrastructure to manage. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and start the stream. StreamNeo runs the loop in the cloud, so your computer and home connection do not need to stay on. It is YouTube-only and plays uploaded videos; it is not a camera-to-live service.
- AWS Elemental MediaLive — best-documented candidate for a configurable cloud-encoding pipeline. AWS describes MediaLive as a cloud-based, broadcast-grade video processing service and has published a 4K/HDR YouTube workflow. This is a stronger fit if you need to design and operate an encoding workflow, rather than simply keep uploaded videos looping.
- Google Cloud Live Stream API — another cloud pipeline to evaluate, not a proven winner. Google publishes input recommendations for 2160p50/60, but the available evidence does not establish a head-to-head cost, reliability, or ease-of-use advantage over AWS.
These are different kinds of choices: a managed YouTube looping service versus cloud media-processing APIs that require configuration and ongoing operational decisions. “Best” depends on whether your priority is a ready-to-run playlist or control over a custom broadcast pipeline.
What a continuous 4K60 YouTube stream requires
A stable source and a continuity plan
A 24/7 stream needs more than an encoder. Decide what supplies video and audio continuously, what happens if the source or encoder fails, how you will detect a problem, and how service resumes. In a cloud setup, the encoder can stay online without a creator’s home computer, but continuity still depends on the chosen input, redundancy, monitoring, recovery behavior, and operator response.
YouTube-compatible output settings
YouTube’s live encoder guidance lists 2160p at 60 fps. Its listed 4K60 bitrate guidance is 10–40 Mbps for AV1 or H.265/HEVC and a recommended 35 Mbps for H.264. These are codec-specific encoder recommendations, not a guarantee of quality on every connection; choose a bitrate your contribution path can sustain and check YouTube’s current table before launch.

- Use progressive scan and constant bitrate (CBR), as YouTube recommends.
- Set a two-second keyframe interval.
- Use RTMPS for an RTMP-based ingest workflow where supported.
- For 4K, plan on normal latency: YouTube says its low-latency option is unavailable at 2160p.
- For 4K HDR, YouTube recommends H.265 over RTMP(S), or HLS if the encoder lacks the required RTMP capabilities. Confirm the exact codec, protocol, frame rate, and HDR support on both sides before committing to a workflow.
YouTube automatically transcodes an incoming live stream into output formats for different devices and network conditions. That does not remove the need to send a stable, correctly configured source.
Do not confuse the ingest bitrate with another service’s input recommendation
Google Cloud’s Live Stream API best-practices page recommends 2160p50/60 input at 50 Mbps for H.264 or 37.5 Mbps for H.265. Those figures describe input to Google’s API; they are not a replacement for YouTube’s own ingest guidance or a directly comparable measure of the same pipeline stage. Google also prefers SRT_PUSH over RTMP_PUSH for features including recovery from packet drops.

How to build a cloud-encoding workflow with AWS
AWS is the most substantiated option here for an operator-managed cloud-encoding design. AWS’s documented 4K/HDR YouTube example uses MediaLive and HLS ingest; the walkthrough dates to April 14, 2021, so treat it as evidence of a documented route, not as current console instructions. Its example uses 59.94 fps, which is close to but not identical to 60 fps. Validate present-day MediaLive settings and YouTube’s current ingest instructions for your exact SDR or HDR format.
- Choose the source and continuity design. Establish whether MediaLive will receive a continuous contribution feed or another supported input. Decide what happens if that input stops and whether you need redundant sources or encoding pipelines. AWS describes MediaLive as capable of managing resources across multiple Availability Zones and detecting and resolving issues without disrupting live channels; this is a service capability description, not an uptime guarantee for your particular deployment.
- Configure the output for YouTube. Match resolution, frame rate, codec, bitrate, scan type, keyframe interval, and HDR format to current YouTube guidance and the MediaLive output options available to you. Choose an ingest protocol supported by both sides. AWS’s 2021 example uses HLS for its 4K/HDR route; it does not mean every 4K60 stream must use HLS.
- Set up the YouTube live event and ingest credentials. Create the event in YouTube Studio, choose the appropriate ingest configuration, and use the stream URL or other endpoint instructions and stream key YouTube provides for that event. Keep the key private. Do not assume an endpoint or protocol from an older tutorial is still current.
- Connect the cloud encoder and verify the signal before relying on it. Confirm that YouTube receives the intended resolution, frame rate, audio, and HDR/SDR format, and check the platform’s stream-health feedback. Test with representative motion and audio before making the stream public. YouTube’s guidance says, “Make sure to test before you start your live stream.”
- Monitor and rehearse recovery. Set up operational monitoring and alerts appropriate to the service design. Test source loss and recovery where practical, and document who responds to alerts. Redundancy and automatic issue handling can reduce risk, but they do not eliminate the need to monitor the actual end-to-end stream.
When AWS’s 24/7 architecture needs more services
AWS’s documented 24/7 live-channel architecture uses MediaLive for encoding and describes MediaPackage and CloudFront as downstream packaging and delivery components. AWS also describes a high-availability pipeline that can produce adaptive-bitrate HLS, DASH, and CMAF for distribution through CloudFront. Those components are relevant when delivering to viewers through an owned player. If YouTube is the viewing destination, do not add a separate CDN merely because it appears in an AWS architecture diagram: CloudFront is for delivery to viewers, not a requirement for sending a feed to YouTube.

How to compare options for your channel
| Decision factor | StreamNeo | AWS Elemental MediaLive | Google Cloud Live Stream API |
|---|---|---|---|
| Typical fit | Looping uploaded videos to YouTube with a managed cloud service | Operator-configured cloud encoding; AWS documents a 4K/HDR YouTube workflow | Operator-configured cloud live-stream API; the available evidence does not establish a YouTube-specific advantage |
| Input/output evidence relevant here | Uploaded recordings or playlists; streams to YouTube | AWS’s 2021 4K/HDR YouTube walkthrough uses HLS ingest | Google recommends 2160p50/60 input at 50 Mbps for H.264 or 37.5 Mbps for H.265; these are Google API input recommendations |
| Continuity approach | Cloud looping and automatic recovery if YouTube drops the stream | Redundancy, pipeline choice, monitoring, and recovery require deployment decisions; AWS describes multi-Availability Zone resource management | Not established here for a specific 24/7 YouTube deployment |
| Comparable 24/7 4K60 price | See StreamNeo’s published plans | Not stated for this workload; the available AWS example is a different scenario | Not stated |
AWS’s published planning example estimates about $69.74 for a one-hour SD-540p event with approximately 1,000 viewers and 791 GB of distribution in US East (N. Virginia): about $2.50 for encoding/packaging and $67.24 for distribution. It is an AWS scenario-specific illustration, not a 4K60 continuous-stream quote and not a fair basis for ranking the services above.

For a meaningful cost estimate, model 24-hour encoder use and any redundant pipeline hours, contribution transport, packaging if needed, the deployment region, and viewer delivery only if traffic goes through the provider rather than YouTube. Ask for a current estimate using the actual codec, bitrate, number of outputs, redundancy, region, and destination. No comparable 24/7 4K60 quotes are established here.

- YouTube does not show the expected 4K60 signal: verify the encoder output, frame rate, codec, and event ingest configuration. A 59.94 fps example should not be mistaken for an exact 60 fps configuration.
- The stream is unstable or drops: check whether the source and contribution connection can sustain the selected bitrate continuously; confirm the encoder is configured for CBR and the intended keyframe interval; then inspect stream-health feedback and monitoring alerts.
- 4K latency is higher than expected: 4K/2160p uses normal latency according to YouTube’s current encoder guidance; the low-latency option is unavailable at that resolution.
- HDR ingest does not work as expected: confirm the selected HDR format, codec, and protocol are supported by both the encoder and the current YouTube ingest path. YouTube’s guidance recommends H.265 over RTMP(S) for 4K HDR or HLS if the encoder lacks the necessary RTMP capability.
- AWS costs exceed the encoding line item: separate encoding and packaging from downstream viewer delivery. A YouTube destination does not, by itself, require the separate CloudFront viewer-delivery architecture.
- AWS’s claimed resilience is mistaken for guaranteed uptime: check the actual source redundancy, pipeline configuration, alarms, failover behavior, and response process. Provider capabilities are not a measured uptime result for an individual channel.
Or let it run in the cloud
For a playlist-based YouTube channel, StreamNeo avoids keeping a PC or home connection running. Upload a video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Your upload streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot rather than quality tiers; StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream.
