The stream must be public, and its livestream archive must remain available as a public video on demand (VOD). YouTube excludes private and unlisted videos, as well as livestreams that are unlisted, deleted, or not converted to VOD. YouTube’s YPP eligibility rules distinguish these qualified public watch hours from watch time shown elsewhere in Analytics.
What has to be true for livestream hours to count?
Check both the stream’s visibility and what happens to its recording after the live broadcast. YouTube describes qualifying watch hours as hours gained from long-form videos you have set to public, and specifically excludes livestreams that are unlisted, deleted, or not converted to VOD.

So a stream being public while it is live is not, by itself, enough to satisfy the stated conditions if its archive is later unlisted, deleted, or not converted to VOD. YouTube does not specify an exact processing delay for archive conversion or privacy changes; check the Earn area and current eligibility guidance rather than assuming when a change will appear.
Do livestream hours count toward YouTube monetization?
They can count toward the long-form public watch-hour route when the visibility and archive conditions are met. That is a rule about YPP eligibility—not a guarantee that a particular stream will generate a set number of hours, or that crossing a threshold automatically gets a channel accepted. YouTube reviews qualifying channels for compliance with its monetization policies.

Standard YPP eligibility routes
As presented on YouTube’s official eligibility page accessed on October 3, 2026, the standard route is 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 qualified watch hours in the last 12 months. The alternative is 1,000 subscribers and 10 million qualified Shorts views in the last 90 days. Watch time from Shorts in the Shorts Feed does not count toward the 4,000-hour threshold. Earlier access to selected features
YouTube also describes an earlier-access tier for selected fan-funding and Shopping features in eligible countries and regions: 500 subscribers, three public uploads in the last 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified long-form watch hours in the last 365 days or 3 million Shorts views in the last 90 days. This is not the same threshold as the standard route for Watch Page Ads, Shorts Feed Ads, and YouTube Premium, which requires 1,000 subscribers plus either 4,000 qualified long-form watch hours in the last 365 days or 10 million Shorts views in the last 90 days. The figures above reflect the official pages retrieved on October 3, 2026; YouTube’s pages do not state a publication year for those thresholds. YouTube search results displayed an announcement of changes planned to start February 1, 2027, but that future date was not yet in effect as of October 3, 2026. Recheck the official eligibility page when applying.
How to check whether your hours qualify
- Set the livestream to public. Private or unlisted visibility does not qualify for public watch hours.
- Keep the archive public and available as a VOD. Do not unlist or delete it if you are relying on its hours for YPP eligibility.
- Open YouTube Studio’s Earn area. Use the qualified public watch-hour figure shown there, rather than treating another Analytics watch-time total as equivalent.
- Check the channel’s full eligibility and policy status. Meeting the numerical threshold does not replace YouTube’s channel review.
YouTube says privacy changes or deletion during an application may affect its status. Its published eligibility guidance does not spell out every interruption or archive-processing case, so use the Earn area and current Help guidance if a specific stream’s status is unclear.
