For separate clips, use a VLC Video source; if the transitions still show black gaps, try joining the clips into one continuous file and playing it with a Media Source. That workaround is a practical inference from OBS’s source types, not a certified or tested fix.
Set up the OBS playlist
- Install VLC in the same architecture as OBS: for 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC. OBS’s Media Sources guide says VLC must be installed for the VLC Video source to work.
- In OBS, use the Sources dock to add a VLC Video source, then load your video files in the order you want. OBS’s Sources Guide documents VLC as the option for a playlist.
- Open the source properties and check Loop Playlist and Shuffle Playlist. Loop restarts the list when it ends; shuffle changes the order, so leave shuffle off if sequence matters.
- Review Visibility Behaviour to control what happens when the source is hidden. The Network caching (ms) property has a documented default of 400 ms, but OBS does not say that increasing it removes gaps between local files.
OBS’s documentation describes playlist, visibility and caching controls, but not a gapless-playback or crossfade toggle. The VLC source implementation is available in the OBS source code; it should not be treated as proof that no plugin or later feature can ever provide such behavior.
If the gaps remain, try one continuous file
Join or render the clips into a single continuous video using a video editor, then add that file as an OBS Media Source. OBS documents Media Source for individual files and VLC Video for playlists; using one prepared file to avoid playlist-item boundaries is a reasonable workaround inferred from that distinction, not an OBS-certified remedy.
Test the rendered file in the actual OBS scene and in a recording or stream before relying on it. Media Source supports formats including MP4, TS, MOV, FLV, MKV, AVI, GIF and WebM. Its Show nothing when playback ends and Close file when inactive settings affect file playback and visibility; closing an inactive file can introduce a short delay when it reloads after becoming visible again. These settings are not documented as inter-item gap controls.

Choose the source that fits your workflow

No cited OBS source measures transition latency or establishes that either option is inherently gapless. Choose based on whether you need separate-file management and playlist controls, or can prepare a single file.
Distinguish playback gaps from a black stream output
If OBS’s local preview looks correct but the stream output is black, treat that as a separate output or scene issue rather than assuming a playlist transition caused it. The OBS materials cited here explain source setup, not a YouTube playlist setting that controls gaps between OBS playlist items.
