For a YouTube live stream at 1440p and 60fps, YouTube recommends a bitrate of 24 Mbps with AV1 or H.265/HEVC, or 34 Mbps with H.264. Use constant bitrate (CBR) and a 2-second keyframe interval. Those figures are for the incoming live stream—not for uploading a finished video.
Recommended 1440p60 settings
| Setting | YouTube guidance |
|---|---|
| Resolution and frame rate | 1440p at up to 60fps |
| Video codec and bitrate | AV1 or H.265/HEVC: 24 Mbps recommended; 6 Mbps minimum |
| Video codec and bitrate | H.264: 34 Mbps recommended; 8 Mbps minimum |
| Bitrate mode | CBR (constant bitrate) |
| Keyframe interval | 2 seconds recommended; do not exceed 4 seconds |
| Protocol | RTMP or RTMPS; YouTube recommends RTMPS |
| Stereo audio | AAC or MP3; 44.1 kHz and 128 Kbps recommended |
| 5.1 audio over RTMP/RTMPS | AAC only; 48 kHz and 384 Kbps recommended |
| SDR color | Rec. 709 color space, 8-bit depth |
These are YouTube Help recommendations for live encoder settings, not a guarantee that every encoder, connection, or viewing device will deliver the same result. YouTube lists H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1 as supported video codecs and up to 60fps. YouTube’s live encoder settings guidance does not state a publication year.
Choose the bitrate and codec
AV1 or H.265/HEVC
Set the encoder to 24 Mbps if it supports AV1 or H.265/HEVC and you want to follow YouTube’s recommended 1440p60 bitrate. The listed minimum is 6 Mbps. A minimum is not the same as the recommended target: use the recommended figure when your encoder and venue connection can sustain it.
H.264
For H.264, YouTube recommends 34 Mbps at 1440p60, with 8 Mbps listed as the minimum. The H.264 recommendation is higher than the AV1/H.265 recommendation, so consider the actual codec support of your encoder and the stable upload capacity available where you will stream.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Set up the stream in YouTube
- Choose the stream workflow. In YouTube Live Control Room, YouTube recommends letting it automatically detect resolution and frame rate by default.
- Set manual resolution only if needed. To select resolution manually, create a custom stream key and enable manual settings under stream resolution. YouTube’s help guidance describes this option without giving a single universal menu path for every interface version. See YouTube’s instructions for encoder settings and resolution selection.
- Configure your encoder. Select 1440p at 60fps, the bitrate appropriate for your codec, CBR, and a 2-second keyframe interval. Set the protocol to RTMPS where supported; YouTube recommends this secure extension to RTMP.
- Enter the stream key carefully. Use the key associated with the intended YouTube stream. Treat it as private: anyone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to that stream. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube rather than continuing to use a compromised key.
- Check audio and color. For stereo, use AAC or MP3 at 44.1 kHz and 128 Kbps as YouTube’s recommendations. For 5.1 over RTMP/RTMPS, use AAC at 48 kHz and 384 Kbps. For SDR, set Rec. 709 and 8-bit depth where those encoder controls are available.
Check upload capacity before going live
The encoder bitrate is the sustained upload demand of the stream. Test upload bitrate at the actual streaming location, then compare the result with the chosen stream bitrate and assess whether the connection remains stable. YouTube advises testing, but does not prescribe a universal upload-speed buffer above the bitrate; any extra headroom you plan is practical risk management, not a YouTube rule.
- Run a speed test over the connection you will use for the broadcast. A result from a different network or location may not represent venue performance.
- Test a representative scene with the same resolution, frame rate, audio, and amount of movement as the real event. Confirm the encoder can hold the selected settings and the connection can carry them reliably.
- If you are currently on Wi-Fi and see instability, a wired Ethernet connection is an optional way to remove wireless variability. It cannot fix insufficient service upload capacity, and YouTube does not require a cable.
- During the broadcast, monitor stream health and read any warnings in Live Control Room. If conditions deteriorate, reduce bitrate or choose a lower output setting that the available connection can sustain.
Troubleshoot common 1440p60 problems
Stream drops, buffers, or reports poor health
Likely cause: The connection cannot sustain the selected bitrate consistently, or local network conditions fluctuate. Try: test the venue connection again, check whether other traffic is using upload bandwidth, and lower the encoder bitrate or output resolution if the connection cannot hold the target. A wired connection may help with Wi-Fi instability, but will not raise the capacity of the internet service.

The encoder rejects the codec or cannot hold the target settings
Likely cause: The encoder does not support the selected codec or lacks capacity for the chosen resolution and frame rate. Try: select a codec supported by the encoder, then use the corresponding YouTube bitrate recommendation. Run a full test before the event rather than discovering the limitation during the broadcast.
Resolution or frame rate is not what you expected
Likely cause: Automatic detection is active, or the selected stream key and manual settings do not match your intent. Try: begin with YouTube’s default automatic detection. If you need to force a resolution, use a custom stream key and enable manual settings under stream resolution.

Keyframe interval warning
Likely cause: The encoder is sending keyframes less frequently than YouTube’s guidance allows. Try: set the keyframe interval to 2 seconds; do not exceed 4 seconds.
Before the broadcast: a short checklist
- Encoder output is 1440p at 60fps, with a codec and bitrate pairing that matches YouTube’s live recommendations.
- Bitrate mode is CBR and keyframes are set to 2 seconds.
- RTMPS is selected if your encoder supports it.
- Audio format and color settings match your production needs.
- A representative end-to-end test succeeds on the connection at the venue.
- You have checked copyright permissions for every video, music track, and other material in the stream. Live broadcasts are subject to YouTube’s copyright rules; 1440p60 settings do not grant permission to use someone else’s work.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your 1440p60 YouTube stream is a loop of uploaded documentaries or other pre-recorded videos, StreamNeo can keep it running from the cloud: upload the video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home. Uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot; there are no quality tiers. StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. Monthly is $9.99 per month. It streams to YouTube only and plays uploaded video, not a live camera feed.
