Set up the destination first, check the rights to everything in the recording, connect with a stream key, and test the playback before announcing it. Recorded footage is a rerun, not a live performance; label it honestly and do not promise that a stream will run forever.
Choose where the stream will run
The key decision is whether playback and encoding happen on a computer you operate or in the cloud. YouTube’s encoder guide explains how to connect an encoder using YouTube’s server URL and stream key, and identifies a cloud service for continuous prerecorded streams. Its listing is not an endorsement or a comparison of service quality.
- Local encoder: Playback and transmission run on your computer. You control the hardware and encoder, but the computer, software, and internet connection must remain available and monitored.
- Cloud service: You upload the recordings and manage the broadcast remotely. A dedicated home computer does not need to stay on, but check that the service supports your destination, looping workflow, and the controls you need.
Compare options by playback location, playlist and repeat controls, reconnect behavior, alerts, file replacement, destination support, account prerequisites, and archive handling. The available official platform guidance does not establish that one implementation is universally more reliable or cheaper than another.
Prepare YouTube before building the stream
For YouTube, verify your channel, confirm it has no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days, and enable live streaming before your planned start. YouTube says first-time enablement can take up to 24 hours; its live-streaming guidance also sets a minimum age of 16. See Get started with live streaming and the encoder setup guide. Check the current requirements for your account in YouTube Studio rather than assuming a channel is ready.

Review the gameplay files and rights
Make a list of every recording, audio track, overlay, and other visible or audible material in the proposed loop. Confirm that you have the rights or permissions needed to rebroadcast the gameplay and included content. Game footage does not automatically clear music: in-game licensed tracks, background music, overlays, and other third-party material can raise separate rights issues.
YouTube warns that third-party content can affect a live broadcast and that Content ID claims may be made after a stream ends if it is archived. Read its current guidance on copyright issues with live streams, and check the relevant game publisher’s permissions and the terms for any music you use. A successful test or lack of an immediate claim is not proof that every right is cleared.

Build and test a repeatable playback sequence
- Prepare the program. Arrange the recordings into a playlist or a single prepared video. Decide the order and inspect the joins, audio levels, and any transitions. Exact repeat and playlist controls depend on the playback product; YouTube’s general encoder guide does not prescribe an OBS playlist configuration.
- Set repeat behavior. In your chosen encoder or service, configure the playlist or prepared program to continue or repeat if that product supports it. Confirm what happens when a file ends, a playlist runs out, or a file cannot be read.
- Create the YouTube stream. In YouTube Studio, create a live stream and copy the server URL and stream key shown for it. Treat the key like a password: do not publish it or share it with anyone who should not control the broadcast.
- Connect the encoder. Enter the YouTube server URL and stream key in the encoder, then start the prepared playback source. YouTube says starting the encoder creates the watch page. Follow the encoder’s own instructions for its stream connection and playlist controls.
- Preview before promoting. Run a short test and check that video and audio play, the sequence advances and repeats as intended, and the YouTube watch page receives the stream. Confirm the title and description accurately identify the footage as prerecorded.
- Plan monitoring and recovery. Decide who will notice if playback freezes, the network disconnects, or the stream ends, and what steps they will take. A repeating source does not by itself ensure that the platform connection remains active.
Label prerecorded gameplay honestly
A continuous broadcast made from recordings is not live gameplay. Describe it as recorded gameplay, a replay, or a rerun in the title or description so viewers understand what they are watching.
Twitch has a specific Rerun setting. For a Twitch rerun, select the Rerun checkbox and prefix both the stream title and go-live notification with “[Rerun]”. Twitch warns that failing to label a stream as a rerun can damage community trust; see On-Demand Content on Twitch. That instruction is specific to Twitch. Check the current disclosure controls and expectations for any other destination.

Understand continuity and archives
“24/7” describes the intended schedule, not a guarantee that one broadcast will continue indefinitely. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. That statement does not establish that a single broadcast can run forever or guarantee how longer sessions will be handled. Plan your stream and archive approach around the current platform and service behavior. YouTube’s encoder guidance is at Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder.
