To present a prerecorded product launch as a YouTube Live event, schedule an encoder-based stream in YouTube Studio, connect an encoder with that event’s stream URL and key, and use the encoder to send the replay’s video and audio. YouTube handles the event, preview, and live controls; playing a local file is an encoder-specific step, not a universal YouTube Studio setting.
Before scheduling: check eligibility and rights
Make sure the channel is eligible to stream. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility guidance says a channel must be verified, must not have had live-streaming restrictions in the past 90 days, and the streamer must be at least 16. Check the channel’s current status in YouTube Studio, since account-specific restrictions may apply.
Review the replay’s rights before broadcasting. This includes the launch recording, music, third-party footage, graphics, demonstrations, and other material. YouTube’s livestream terms require compliance with the Community Guidelines and the necessary rights to use the live content on Google services, including applicable music rights. Whether a particular license covers a broadcast or archive in a specific territory depends on that license; the platform guidance cannot establish that for you.
Schedule the YouTube Live replay
- Open YouTube Studio and select Create, then Go Live.
- Open the Manage tab and schedule a stream. Add the title, description, visibility, date, and start time for the launch replay.
- Make the replay format clear in the title or description. Scheduling creates an upcoming event page you can share; viewers may also opt into notifications. See YouTube’s scheduled live stream instructions.
- Choose an encoder-based stream. Keep the event’s stream URL and stream key available for the encoder setup. Treat the key as private: anyone with access to it may be able to send a feed to the event.
Set up an encoder to play the prerecorded video
YouTube accepts both software and hardware encoders. A hardware encoder is an optional production choice, not a requirement; YouTube’s encoder guide describes the connection workflow and notes that hardware can suit higher-production events. You do not need to buy dedicated hardware just to stream a replay.
#1 Best Overall
- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
- In the encoder, enter the scheduled event’s stream URL and stream key using the encoder’s YouTube or custom RTMP connection settings, as applicable. Follow that encoder’s documentation for the exact controls.
- Set the prerecorded launch file as the encoder’s video and audio input. File selection, playback, countdowns, scene changes, and looping vary by encoder; YouTube Studio does not provide one universal set of local-file playback controls.
- Check that the encoder is sending the intended picture and sound. Confirm that the replay begins where you expect and that its audio is present before you start the public event.
Use the chosen encoder’s documentation for file-specific instructions. The YouTube workflow covers connecting the encoder, previewing its feed, starting, and ending the event; it does not prescribe how every encoder loads or plays a local video.
Preview, start, and monitor the event
- Set up and test the encoder before the event. YouTube recommends starting it at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start so you can check the incoming feed; see YouTube’s streaming tips.
- In YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, check the preview. Verify the correct replay, picture, and audio are arriving before starting the event.
- When the preview is right, start the event from Live Control Room. Keep an eye on audio and video throughout the broadcast.
- When the replay is finished, end the stream in YouTube and stop the encoder’s output as appropriate. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived, according to its encoder guide.
Choose software or hardware based on the production
There is no universally better encoder for a replay. Compare options against the requirements of this particular launch:

Common problems and fixes
- The channel cannot start a live stream: Check verification and live-streaming status in YouTube Studio, including any restrictions in the past 90 days. Confirm that the streamer meets YouTube’s stated minimum age requirement.
- The event does not receive a feed: Recheck that the encoder is using the URL and key for the scheduled event, then confirm the encoder is actively sending. If needed, retrieve the event’s connection details in Studio and enter them again.
- The preview is blank or shows the wrong content: Check the encoder’s selected file or scene and confirm that playback has started. The exact control depends on the encoder.
- The preview has no sound: Check the encoder’s audio source and playback level, then inspect the Live Control Room preview before starting.
- The event begins late or is not ready at the scheduled time: Start the encoder early enough to inspect the incoming feed; YouTube recommends at least 15 minutes before the scheduled start.
- A replay or its archive may infringe someone’s rights: Do not assume that having a copy of a song, clip, logo, or other material grants streaming and archive rights. Confirm the applicable permissions before broadcasting.
