To keep prerecorded cartoons running as a continuous YouTube live stream without leaving a computer on, use a hosted looping service or build a cloud video pipeline that sends an encoder feed to YouTube. YouTube still needs a live feed from an encoder or managed service—the videos do not become a live stream by themselves.
Choose the cloud approach that fits your channel
For one always-on channel, the main trade-off is convenience versus control. A hosted service manages the looping and stream operation. A cloud-provider workflow gives you more choices about encoding and delivery, but you must configure and operate those components yourself.

- Google Cloud Live Stream API — managed transcoding and publishing. The API accepts an input, transcodes it to output streams, and publishes the result. It is a more configurable building block than a hosted looping service, and its documented 24-hour channel-session behavior needs to be accounted for in an always-on design. - AWS media services — configurable infrastructure. AWS describes a live workflow using MediaLive for encoding, MediaPackage to prepare content for different device types, or MediaStore as a live origin, with CloudFront for delivery. This offers component-level flexibility; the documentation does not establish that it is the simplest or lowest-cost choice for a single YouTube channel. AWS’s live and on-demand video overview.
For most creators whose goal is simply to keep a prerecorded playlist live, start by comparing hosted services. Consider Google Cloud or AWS when you need to manage the pipeline’s components and have the capacity to configure, monitor, and maintain them.
What YouTube needs from a continuous stream
YouTube describes encoder-based live streaming: an encoder turns the source into a live feed YouTube can receive. For prerecorded cartoons, a cloud service can manage that looping and encoding, or you can create a feed through cloud infrastructure. YouTube’s encoder guidance lists compatible software and hardware and identifies Gyre as a hosted option; it does not document a universal setting profile for every cartoon channel.

If your encoder sends HLS
YouTube specifies these requirements for HLS input:
- Segments must be 1–4 seconds long.
- Segments must use the TS format.
- The playlist must roll and have no more than five outstanding segments.
- Requests must use HTTPS POST/PUT.
YouTube notes that HLS has higher latency than RTMP because it sends segments rather than one continuous stream. Confirm that your chosen encoder supports the protocol and settings you intend to use. These HLS requirements are specific to HLS ingestion, not a general recommendation for every YouTube stream. YouTube’s HLS setup requirements.

Plan for continuity, not just startup
Google Cloud’s 24-hour session consideration
Google Cloud documents that a Live Stream API channel may be restarted after 24 hours if it remains in a streaming state other than STOPPED or STOPPING. Treat that as an operational event to plan for, rather than assuming a channel will remain uninterrupted indefinitely. Include monitoring and a restart or recovery procedure in your design. Google also publishes these service limits:

These are Google Cloud service limits, not recommended bitrates for cartoons or guaranteed YouTube delivery settings. Check the current Live Stream API quotas and limits when designing your configuration.

Build recovery into any cloud workflow
For any provider-based pipeline, decide how you will detect an ended or interrupted feed, restart the relevant channel or encoder, and verify that YouTube is receiving video again. Also account for source-file changes and cloud-service outages. The cited AWS overview describes available services and an architecture, but does not establish specific recovery behavior for a particular deployment.
Estimate the real cost before committing
There is no established like-for-like monthly price here for a continuous YouTube stream across Google Cloud, AWS, and hosted services. A cloud-provider estimate depends on the selected services and configuration, as well as resolution, bitrate, runtime, storage, and delivery or egress. Calculate the full monthly setup for your intended workload; do not compare a single component’s price with an all-in hosted service.

Hosted services may have plan limits or terms that are not described in YouTube’s encoder directory. Verify current pricing, storage allowances, stream limits, and recovery behavior with the provider before relying on it for a channel.
