FFmpeg can loop a bhajan recording indefinitely and send it to YouTube Live. Use -stream_loop -1 to repeat a file and -re to read it at its normal rate. You will also need a YouTube stream URL and key, output settings that match YouTube’s current ingest guidance, a reliable connection, and rights to the recording and visuals.
What the loop does—and what it does not
FFmpeg’s -stream_loop -1 repeats a finite input without a preset end, while -re paces file reading at the input’s native rate. FFmpeg documents -re as equivalent to -readrate 1 and notes its use when packet flow speed matters, such as live streaming (FFmpeg documentation).
These options make a file behave like a real-time source; they do not guarantee an uninterrupted broadcast. Read errors, an overloaded encoder, network interruptions, or YouTube stream-health problems can still interrupt or degrade the feed. Decide whether viewers should see a video, a still image, or another visual alongside the audio—the appropriate stream mapping and encoding depend on that choice and on the actual file.
Prepare the recording and YouTube stream
- Check the source. Confirm that your installed FFmpeg can read the file and identify its audio and video streams. Choose the audio and, if present, video streams you intend to send.
- Set up the live stream. In YouTube Live Control Room, create or select the stream and copy the stream URL and key shown for the encoder. YouTube describes the key as the information that tells the encoder where to send the feed and lets YouTube accept it. Treat it as a password; reset it in Live Control Room if it is exposed (YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder).
- Choose output settings. Match the codec, resolution, frame rate, bitrate, and audio settings to YouTube’s current guidance for your chosen output. The values depend on the format and quality target; do not assume one bitrate fits every stream.
- Check protocol support. YouTube recommends RTMPS. Whether your FFmpeg build can use the protocol and URL provided for your stream depends on that build and the destination shown in Live Control Room.
Adapt and test an FFmpeg command
This command shows the general shape for looping a video file. It is illustrative, not a tested universal command: the stream mapping, codec support, bitrate, frame rate, keyframe settings, protocol, and destination may need adjustment for your file, FFmpeg build, and YouTube stream.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i "input.mp4"
-c:v libx264 -pix_fmt yuv420p -preset veryfast
-c:a aac -b:a 128k
-f flv "<YouTube stream URL>/<stream key>"
Here, -re and -stream_loop -1 are input options, so they appear before -i. The example selects H.264 video and AAC audio, but those choices are not guaranteed to suit every source or build. Confirm the output format and URL required by the live stream, and do not publish a command containing your real stream key.
Settings to verify against YouTube’s current guidance
- Ingest: YouTube lists RTMP/RTMPS. It recommends RTMPS; confirm your FFmpeg build supports the required protocol.
- Video: YouTube lists H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1, at up to 60 fps. Select a codec and frame rate supported by your encoder and suitable for the source.
- Keyframes: YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe frequency and says it should not exceed four seconds.
- Rate control and bitrate: YouTube recommends constant bitrate (CBR) and publishes bitrate ranges by codec, resolution, and frame rate. Use the current row for your chosen settings rather than copying a generic bitrate.
- Audio: YouTube lists AAC or MP3. Choose a supported setting compatible with the source and output.
These are YouTube’s published encoder recommendations; check its current table before a broadcast because the appropriate bitrate depends on the selected format (YouTube Help: Choose live encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions).

Test the broadcast and watch stream health
Before the intended broadcast, test with representative audio and visuals, then check the YouTube preview and stream-health messages. YouTube recommends testing before going live. Its streaming tips recommend upload capacity with 20% headroom above the total stream bitrate, including a backup feed if you use one (YouTube Help: Streaming tips).
During a test, listen for gaps or distortion and check that the visual behaves as intended when the file repeats. Watch for encoder errors, dropped or unstable network delivery, and warnings in YouTube’s health panel. A loop setting cannot repair a failing source file, exhausted encoding capacity, or unreliable connection.

Confirm rights to the bhajan recording and visuals
Being able to loop and transmit a file does not establish permission to broadcast it. A devotional song may involve separate rights in the composition, lyrics, recording, arrangement, and performance; visuals may have their own rights. YouTube’s livestream terms say the provider represents and warrants that it has the necessary rights for worldwide exploitation of live content on Google services, including music licensing rights involving artists, labels, publishers, and other royalty participants (YouTube Terms of Service).
The rights status of a particular bhajan cannot be determined without knowing the recording, contributors, territories, and licence terms. Confirm that your permissions cover the live broadcast and any resulting archive before streaming.

Stopping the stream and long-running broadcasts
To end the broadcast, stop sending content from the encoder. YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived; do not assume a longer-running stream will be archived on the same basis (YouTube Help: Create a YouTube live stream with an encoder).
Or let it run in the cloud
If you do not want a computer or home connection to stay on, StreamNeo keeps an uploaded recording or playlist looping to YouTube Live from the cloud. The setup is: upload your video, add your YouTube stream key once, then go live. It does not broadcast from a camera and streams to YouTube only.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I loop an audio-only bhajan file?
Yes, but the command must provide whatever audio and visual output you intend to send; the video-file example is not an audio-only command.
Will FFmpeg keep the stream running if my internet disconnects?
No. The loop option repeats the input but does not guarantee recovery from a network interruption.
Can I use any bhajan recording I find online?
No. The ability to stream a file does not grant rights to its composition, recording, performance, or accompanying visuals.
