If you are deciding whether to host locally or in the cloud, compare recurring cost, maximum session duration, upload or storage requirements, restart and scheduling controls, what happens after a disconnect, and whether a complete replay will be available.

Set up OBS and YouTube for a continuous stream
1. Check that your channel can go live
YouTube requires a verified channel and no live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. First-time live-streaming activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it before the day you want to start. Review YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility and setup guidance.
2. Prepare a relaxation video you have the rights to use
Choose the video and audio you intend to loop in OBS. Use original material or licenses that expressly cover live streaming on YouTube and the archive. Keep the license or other rights documentation. A video that you can play privately or upload is not automatically cleared for a public live broadcast.

3. Get the YouTube stream URL and key
- Open YouTube Studio and start the live-stream setup for an encoder. YouTube provides a stream URL and stream key for the broadcast.
- In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube as the service, and connect the account or choose the option to use a stream key.
- Copy the stream URL and key from YouTube into OBS if entering them manually. Treat the key like a password: do not publish, share, or show it on screen. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio.

4. Build and check the OBS scene
- In OBS, add the relaxation video as a media source and enable looping in that source’s properties. Arrange the scene so the video and any permitted on-screen text appear as intended.
- Preview the scene and confirm the video plays, loops, and has the expected audio before sending it to YouTube.
- Open Settings > Output and Settings > Video to configure encoding and resolution for your computer and upload connection. The sources cited here do not establish a universal bitrate, resolution, frame rate, or hardware requirement; do not copy a value blindly. Use a stable setting your system and sustained upload can handle.
5. Start the broadcast and monitor it
- Keep OBS open and click Start Streaming. Check YouTube Studio’s live control room to confirm the incoming stream and preview, then start the public broadcast as prompted by YouTube.
- Watch OBS’s status and dropped-frame indicators. OBS says rising dropped frames can indicate an unstable connection or a bitrate the connection cannot sustain. Reduce the load or bitrate to a level the connection can maintain, and check the network path.
- For an actual 24/7 run, the computer must stay powered and awake, OBS must stay open, and the internet connection must remain available. Disable sleep only if you are comfortable leaving the machine operating continuously, and consider power and network interruptions part of the plan.
Plan for archives, interruptions, and rights checks
A 24/7 session may not produce a complete replay
YouTube says streams under 12 hours will be automatically archived, while streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. A single uninterrupted 24/7 broadcast is therefore not a reliable way to preserve a full replay. If an archive matters, use shorter sessions and/or record a local copy, then verify your recording workflow before relying on it. YouTube recommends a local archive backup in its encoder guidance.

Music and visuals can interrupt the stream
YouTube’s live-stream terms place responsibility on the content provider to have all necessary rights for live and archived material, including music rights. YouTube scans live streams for third-party content; a match can lead to a warning, replacement image, interruption, or termination. For licensed third-party content, YouTube instructs creators to ask the rights owner to add the channel to the Content ID allowlist. A license alone may not prevent a live interruption if the channel is not allowlisted. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams and its livestream terms and conditions.
Looping does not guarantee monetization
YouTube’s monetization policy says monetized content should be original and authentic, and that repetitive or mass-produced material can be ineligible under its “inauthentic content” policy. The policy page notes a clarification dated July 15, 2025, while stating that the reused-content policy did not change. A long stream, repeated watch time, or use of a cloud service does not guarantee monetization. Review YouTube’s channel monetization policies.

Troubleshoot the usual failure points
- YouTube does not accept the stream: Confirm live streaming is activated, the channel meets eligibility requirements, and OBS has the current stream URL and key. Re-enter the key privately if needed.
- The stream disconnects or drops frames: Check whether the computer or router lost connectivity and whether OBS reports dropped frames. OBS identifies unstable internet or an unsustainable bitrate as possible causes; lower the bitrate or other streaming load and test again.
- The loop stops or shows the wrong scene: Check the media source’s loop setting and confirm the intended source is visible in the OBS scene. Preview the source before restarting the broadcast.
- A copyright warning or interruption appears: Stop using the matched material until you verify the rights for live and archived YouTube use. If it is licensed third-party material, contact the rights owner about Content ID allowlisting.
- The archive is incomplete or absent: A stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured. For a dependable replay, plan shorter sessions or a local recording rather than assuming a continuous stream will be archived in full.
