Repair common Windows errors and clear accumulated junk for a smoother, more stable PC - no reinstall needed.Free scan · no reinstallTo loop an ASMR video on YouTube Live with FFmpeg, put -re -stream_loop -1 before the input file, then send it to YouTube’s assigned RTMPS ingest address with a suitable video bitrate, two-second keyframes, and AAC audio. The example below is a starting point, not a guarantee of uninterrupted streaming: test the full path and monitor YouTube’s stream health.
Start with this FFmpeg command
This example targets 1080p30 SDR using H.264, YouTube’s recommended 14 Mbps video bitrate for that format, and stereo AAC audio. Replace the file path and RTMPS destination with your own. The command is an illustrative configuration, not a source-published preset or a guarantee that it will work unchanged with every FFmpeg build or event.
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i "/path/to/asmr.mp4"
-c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -pix_fmt yuv420p
-r 30 -g 60
-b:v 14M -maxrate 14M -bufsize 28M
-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100
-f flv "rtmps://YOUR_INGEST_ADDRESS/YOUR_STREAM_NAME"
The input options -re and -stream_loop -1 go before the relevant -i. FFmpeg documents -stream_loop -1 as infinite input looping and -re as reading at the input’s native frame rate, equivalent to -readrate 1. This pacing is useful when sending a file as a live stream. See the FFmpeg documentation.
The two-second keyframe interval is represented here by -g 60: at 30 frames per second, two seconds equals 60 frames. YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe frequency and says not to exceed four seconds. GOP options can be encoder-specific, so check the chosen encoder’s behavior rather than assuming every encoder interprets them identically.

Choose resolution, frame rate, and bitrate together
YouTube’s published recommendations are guidance for the selected codec, resolution, and frame rate—not ASMR-specific settings and not a promise of identical quality on every source or connection. The figures below are YouTube Help’s recommended video bitrates, checked October 3, 2026. Values are in Mbps.
| Resolution and frame rate | H.264 | AV1 or H.265/HEVC |
|---|---|---|
| 2160p (4K) at 60 fps | 50 Mbps | 35 Mbps |
| 2160p (4K) at 30 fps | 42 Mbps | 30 Mbps |
| 1440p at 60 fps | 34 Mbps | 24 Mbps |
| 1440p at 30 fps | 21 Mbps | 15 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 17 Mbps | 12 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 14 Mbps | 10 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 8 Mbps | 6 Mbps |
| 720p at 30 fps | 6 Mbps | 6 Mbps |
| 480p at 30 fps | 4 Mbps | 3 Mbps |
| 360p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps | 3 Mbps |
These recommendations are from YouTube Help’s encoder settings. Its table also lists minimum bitrates separately: for example, H.264 at 1080p30 has a 5 Mbps minimum and 14 Mbps recommended; H.264 at 720p30 has a 3 Mbps minimum and 6 Mbps recommended. Prefer the recommended value when your upload can sustain it, with headroom for bitrate variation and other network use. YouTube advises choosing a quality reliable for the available connection and testing upload bitrate.

Translate the keyframe interval into frames
YouTube states its keyframe guidance in seconds. For a constant frame rate, multiply the frame rate by two for a two-second GOP: use 60 frames at 30 fps or 120 frames at 60 fps. A 1080p60 H.264 version of the example would use 17 Mbps and -g 120; a 720p30 H.264 version would use 6 Mbps and -g 60. Do not set an interval longer than four seconds.
Codec, color, and audio settings
YouTube lists RTMP and RTMPS as supported live protocols and recommends RTMPS. Its listed video codecs include H.264, H.265/HEVC, and AV1, with frame rates up to 60 fps. For SDR it lists Rec. 709 and 8-bit video. The sample uses H.264 and yuv420p as an illustrative SDR path.

YouTube lists AAC or MP3 audio. For stereo it specifies 44.1 kHz and 128 kbps; the sample uses AAC at those settings. For 5.1 surround, YouTube lists AAC over RTMP/RTMPS at 48 kHz and 384 kbps. Check the source audio and intended output before choosing stereo or surround settings.
Set up YouTube ingestion safely
- In YouTube Live Control Room, obtain the event’s assigned ingestion address and stream name/key. YouTube’s Live Streaming API documents a primary ingestion address and stream name; its API also documents optional backup ingestion addresses. See LiveStreams | YouTube Live Streaming API.
- Use the assigned RTMPS address and stream name in the FFmpeg output destination. YouTube’s API documentation allows the ingestion address and stream name to be entered separately or concatenated according to the encoder interface; follow the format shown for your event.
- Keep the stream key secret. Do not publish it in a screenshot, article, or public log. Anyone with the key may be able to send video to your stream.
- YouTube automatically detects stream settings by default. If you manually specify resolution in YouTube’s stream-key settings, use the custom settings described in YouTube Help.
Prepare the loop and test the complete path
Check the repeat boundary
FFmpeg repeats the input; it does not repair an abrupt edit. Review the end-to-start transition in both picture and sound. If the cut, room tone, music, or ambience jumps noticeably at each repeat, edit the source into a smoother loop and test that rendered file. This is production advice, not a YouTube requirement.

Account for separate audio files
The sample assumes the MP4 already contains the audio you want. If audio and video are separate inputs, coordinate their durations and loop behavior explicitly; looping one input does not establish that a separate audio input will repeat in sync.
Run a preflight before relying on the stream
- Test with representative sound and motion, not only a static or silent segment.
- Check aspect ratio, resolution, frame rate, audio presence and level, and the loop transition.
- Watch YouTube’s preview and stream-health feedback for dropped or frozen frames and encoding messages.
- Check that the upload connection can sustain the selected bitrate while other network traffic is present.
- Monitor YouTube’s stream health and messages while the event is live. YouTube recommends testing before starting and monitoring during the event.
A repeating input is not proof that the event will continue forever. The command alone does not establish automatic reconnection, process supervision, machine uptime, or YouTube’s event-duration policy. Treat these as separate operational questions and verify them for your setup.

Troubleshoot common problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| The file streams once and stops | The loop option is missing, misspelled, or placed after the input it should affect. | Use -stream_loop -1 before the corresponding -i. |
| The stream runs too quickly or timing is wrong | The file is being read faster than real time. | Put -re before the input file and verify the output frame rate and event preview. |
| YouTube reports unstable stream health or dropped frames | The upload may not sustain the selected bitrate, or other network traffic may be consuming capacity. | Test upload capacity, leave headroom, and choose a lower resolution/frame-rate combination if needed. |
| The repeat sounds or looks abrupt | The end and beginning of the source do not form a smooth transition. | Review the boundary and edit a seamless loop; FFmpeg’s repeat option does not smooth the cut. |
| YouTube does not receive the stream | The event’s ingest address or stream key may be wrong, or the output format may not match the installed FFmpeg build. | Recheck the assigned YouTube ingestion details, keep the key private, and validate the RTMPS destination and container against your FFmpeg build. |
| FFmpeg rejects an encoder option | The installed build may not include the selected encoder or may handle its options differently. | Check ffmpeg -h encoder=libx264 for the installed build and use settings supported by that encoder. |
