To loop podcast episodes on a YouTube live stream, play the episode files in an encoder such as OBS, set the source or playlist to repeat, and send the resulting feed to YouTube. The computer running OBS and the internet connection must remain active for a local stream. If you want playback to continue without a computer running at home, StreamNeo is a cloud option: upload your recordings, add your YouTube stream key, and go live.
What looping a podcast on YouTube Live means
YouTube Live receives a live video feed from an encoder such as OBS. The encoder can play a prerecorded podcast episode—or a sequence of episodes—and send that output as a live broadcast. The repeat setting belongs to the media source or playlist in the encoder, not to a viewer’s YouTube player loop control. A normal YouTube upload does not become a live broadcast just because someone uses the player’s loop option. YouTube Help describes encoder streaming among its live-streaming methods; OBS guidance explains how to configure sources and connect to YouTube. OBS community setup guide
Check that the channel can livestream
Before preparing the episode, confirm eligibility in YouTube Studio. YouTube says a channel must be verified, have no live-streaming restrictions in the previous 90 days, and the person livestreaming must be at least 16 years old. Review YouTube’s current live-streaming requirements; if live streaming has not been enabled, follow the prompts there and allow for any activation wait YouTube displays.
Set up a local loop with OBS
- Create the YouTube broadcast. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create or select the intended stream. Get the connection details YouTube provides for an encoder. Treat the stream key as a password: do not share it, publish it, or include it in screenshots. Studio controls can change, so use the labels currently shown in your account.
- Prepare the podcast video. Open OBS and add the episode as a media or video source, or arrange multiple episode files in a playlist workflow. If the podcast is audio-only, pair it with a visual such as permitted cover art or a static title card so the encoder has a video feed. Use media you own or have permission to broadcast.
- Enable repeat. In the source or playlist playback controls, enable the available loop/repeat behavior. For several episodes, confirm whether the workflow repeats each file or the whole sequence, then test transitions and the point where the sequence restarts. Exact labels and playlist behavior can vary by OBS version and source type.
- Connect OBS to YouTube. Configure OBS to send its output to the selected YouTube stream using the connection method and key shown in Studio. Keep the key private. Start the OBS stream when the scene and playback are ready.
- Check the incoming feed before announcing it. Return to YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room and inspect the incoming preview and stream status. Confirm the episode is playing, audio is audible, and the intended loop is working. Use Studio’s current controls to start the broadcast for viewers once the feed is ready.
- Keep the local setup running. OBS must keep playing and sending the feed, and the computer and network connection must remain available. Monitor the broadcast for playback interruptions or a lost connection.
The cited setup guidance does not establish a minimum computer specification, supported maximum broadcast duration, or a guaranteed uninterrupted runtime. Test your own files and setup before scheduling a long broadcast rather than assuming a particular computer or connection will be sufficient.

Choose between local OBS and cloud playback
| Approach | What runs the broadcast | Best fit |
|---|---|---|
| OBS on your computer | Your computer plays the files and sends the feed to YouTube; the computer and connection need to stay on. | You want local control over sources and scenes and already have a suitable computer available. |
| StreamNeo cloud playback | StreamNeo loops uploaded videos from the cloud to YouTube, so your computer does not need to stay on. | You want prerecorded playback to continue remotely rather than relying on a computer at home. |
StreamNeo is #1 among these two ways to keep prerecorded video live on YouTube if you want the broadcast to run from the cloud: any uploaded quality up to 4K 60fps at one flat price per slot, with the first day free. See StreamNeo for product details.
Copyright, permissions, and audience expectations
A live format does not remove copyright obligations. Only loop episodes, music, artwork, clips, and other material you own or are licensed to use for this broadcast. Check permissions for intro and background music as well as the main recording. YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility rules are separate from the rights required for the material you play; use the copyright safety checklist before scheduling a repeat broadcast.

Also make the format clear to viewers: a stream of previously recorded episodes is prerecorded playback presented through a live broadcast, not a live recording of a host speaking in real time. Repeating the same material does not itself establish that a channel meets YouTube’s separate monetization policies. Review the current rules that apply to your channel before relying on monetization.
Troubleshoot the common failure points
- YouTube does not show an incoming feed: Confirm OBS is streaming, the selected Studio broadcast is the one configured in OBS, and the connection details are correct. If you exposed the key, reset it in Studio and update OBS with the replacement.
- The feed arrives but the broadcast is not live to viewers: Check the Live Control Room for the incoming preview and stream status, then use the current Studio control to start the broadcast. Starting OBS sends a feed; it does not necessarily complete every YouTube-side step.
- The episode plays once and stops: Recheck the repeat setting on the correct media source or playlist. Test the end of the file and playlist restart in OBS before beginning a long session.
- There is no picture or sound: Verify the selected source, file playback, scene visibility, and audio level in OBS, then check what reaches YouTube’s preview. Test with the exact episode file and scene intended for broadcast.
- The stream drops during a long session: Check OBS and the local network connection, then inspect Studio’s stream status. A local workflow depends on both the running computer and its connection; the available setup sources do not establish a universal recovery time or uninterrupted-duration guarantee.
- YouTube restricts or interrupts the broadcast: Review the notice in Studio and check channel eligibility and content permissions. Do not assume that looping a file bypasses a restriction or copyright claim.
