How to Use OBS to Loop Study Videos on YouTube Live in India

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

To loop a study video on YouTube Live with OBS, add it to a scene as a Media Source, select the local file and enable Loop. For several videos, use OBS’s VLC Video source and enable Loop Playlist. Connect OBS to a YouTube stream using its server URL and stream key, start streaming in OBS, then click Go live in YouTube Studio when the preview appears. You need an eligible channel and the rights to stream every video and audio element.

Before you set up the stream

  • Your YouTube channel must be verified and must not have livestreaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. YouTube’s current help page says streamers must be at least 16. First-time livestreaming access can take up to 24 hours to activate, so enable it well ahead of your planned stream. YouTube: Get started with live streaming
  • Have the video files available on the computer running OBS. For a playlist, install VLC as well; OBS’s VLC Video source requires VLC, and 64-bit OBS requires 64-bit VLC.
  • Use only content you own or have permission to livestream, including music and other audio. A video being publicly viewable on YouTube does not give you rebroadcast rights.

The documented OBS and YouTube setup does not identify a separate configuration for India. YouTube’s terms refer to requirements in the territory where the stream is carried, so Indian creators should check the laws and requirements that apply to their stream and content.

Choose how OBS should loop the study videos

What you want to play OBS source Loop setting What you need
One video, repeated Media Source Loop The local video file
Several videos in sequence, repeated VLC Video Loop Playlist VLC installed; its architecture must match OBS (64-bit OBS needs 64-bit VLC)

Set up a single repeating video in OBS

  1. Open OBS Studio and select an existing scene, or create one in the Scenes panel.
  2. In Sources, select + and choose Media Source. Name the source if you want, then confirm.
  3. In the source properties, select the study video file from your computer and enable Loop. OBS documents common formats including MP4, MOV, MKV and WebM. The loop option makes the file play again once playback has completed. OBS Project: Media Sources
  4. Confirm the source properties. Check the OBS preview to make sure the video is visible and playing; resize or position it in the canvas if needed.

Set up a repeating playlist

  1. In Sources, select + and choose VLC Video. If that source is unavailable, install VLC and restart OBS. For 64-bit OBS, install 64-bit VLC.
  2. Add the study video files to the source’s playlist in the order you want them to play.
  3. Enable Loop Playlist if it is not already enabled. OBS documents this option as on by default for the VLC Video source; confirm the setting in your version of OBS. OBS Project: Media Sources
  4. Check the preview and playlist order before connecting to YouTube.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live

  1. In YouTube Studio, open Create → Go Live to reach the Live Control Room. Create a stream or open the settings for an existing one.
  2. Copy the stream URL (server URL) and stream key shown in the stream settings. Keep the key private: someone who obtains it may be able to send a feed to your stream.
  3. In OBS, open Settings → Stream. Select YouTube if it is available, or choose the option to enter a server URL. Paste in YouTube’s server URL and stream key, then apply the settings.
  4. In OBS, select Start Streaming. Wait for the stream preview to appear in YouTube’s Live Control Room, then select Go live there. Starting the encoder in OBS sends the feed; the YouTube Live Control Room step makes the stream live to viewers. See YouTube: Go live with an encoder.

Check rights and monetization before going live

Rights to videos and audio

YouTube’s livestream terms require the provider to have the necessary rights to exploit live content on Google services worldwide, including relevant music licensing rights, and to comply with applicable laws and regulatory requirements in the stream territory. Use your own study video or material for which you have permission that covers livestreaming and any resulting archive. YouTube’s terms also state: “The Live Content must comply with the YouTube Community Guidelines.” YouTube: Live streaming terms

Monetization is a separate question

YouTube’s monetization policies apply to livestreams. They require monetized content to be original and authentic; a July 15, 2025 update clarifies that repetitive or mass-produced content falls under the “inauthentic content” policy. The guidance identifies similar or repetitive content with little educational value, commentary, narrative or variation as a concern. That does not mean every loop is automatically ineligible: YouTube reviews the channel and content as a whole. A single prerecorded video repeated by OBS does not, by itself, establish eligibility for monetization. YouTube: Channel monetization policies

  2. Stop sending the feed by selecting Stop Streaming in OBS.

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. YouTube: Go live with an encoder

Troubleshooting

  • The video stops at the end instead of repeating: Open the Media Source properties and check that Loop is enabled.
  • VLC Video is missing from Sources: Install VLC, then restart OBS. If OBS is 64-bit, VLC must be 64-bit too.
  • The stream does not appear in YouTube: Check that OBS has the correct YouTube server URL and stream key, then start streaming in OBS. Wait for the preview in Live Control Room before selecting Go live.
  • You cannot start a livestream: Check channel verification and livestream restrictions. If you are enabling livestreaming for the first time, activation can take up to 24 hours.
