How to Loop Multiple Recorded Sermons on YouTube Live Without Gaps

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

Use OBS Studio’s VLC Video source to play several sermon recordings in a chosen order and enable Loop Playlist to restart the sequence. That keeps the YouTube Live event running as the playlist repeats, but OBS does not promise frame- or audio-gapless transitions. Test every boundary—including the last sermon back to the first—before relying on it for a service.

What you need before setting up the stream

  • A YouTube channel that is verified and has no live-streaming restrictions in the preceding 90 days. First-time live-streaming activation can take up to 24 hours, so enable it well before the broadcast. See YouTube’s live-streaming eligibility and setup guidance.
  • A computer running OBS Studio, the sermon video files stored locally or otherwise accessible to that computer, and VLC installed for OBS’s VLC Video source. OBS describes VLC Video as the source for a playlist of media items. See OBS Media Sources.
  • A reliable internet connection with enough upload capacity for the chosen stream settings, plus someone available to check the preview and monitor audio and video.
  • Permission to rebroadcast the recordings and all material included in them, such as music, video clips, artwork, and other third-party content. Configuration guidance does not establish that your church has those rights.

Set up the sermon playlist in OBS

  1. Open your scene. In OBS, choose the scene that will carry the broadcast. Add a source using the + button in the Sources panel and select VLC Video. If VLC is not installed, install it before setting up this source.
  2. Add the recordings in the intended order. In the VLC Video source properties, add each sermon file and arrange the list in the planned sequence. Leave shuffle off if the sermons must play in a fixed order.
  3. Enable the playlist loop. Turn on Loop Playlist so the source restarts after it reaches the end of the list. OBS documents this as restarting the source when it has run out of media files; it is a repeat setting, not a guarantee of seamless file transitions.
  4. Check the scene before streaming. Confirm that the picture is visible and audio is coming through OBS’s mixer. Play through the sequence, not just the first file, so you can catch missing files, unexpected ordering, or audio that is routed incorrectly.

For a single recording rather than a playlist, OBS’s ordinary Media Source has a Loop property. VLC Video is the documented choice when you need several files in a playlist. The VLC dependency applies to VLC Video, not to the documented Media Source loop option. See OBS’s source documentation.

Connect OBS to YouTube Live

  1. Create or select a stream. In YouTube Studio, open the Live Control Room and create a stream or select the one you intend to use.
  2. Copy the stream connection details. Copy the server URL and stream key from YouTube’s stream settings into OBS’s streaming settings. Treat the stream key like a password: YouTube uses it to identify where the encoder sends the feed and to accept that feed. Keep it out of public documents, screenshots, and chat.
  3. Choose compatible output settings. YouTube’s current encoder guidance recommends RTMPS and gives codec-specific bitrate recommendations. Use the bitrate for your chosen resolution, frame rate, and codec from YouTube’s current table rather than borrowing a number from another configuration. YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval, not exceeding four seconds, and CBR bitrate encoding. See YouTube stream settings and its encoder setup instructions.
  4. Start the encoder and inspect the preview. Start streaming from OBS, then check the Live Control Room preview for picture, sound, and stream health. When everything is ready, start the YouTube Live event from the Live Control Room. YouTube’s workflow is to configure the encoder, start it, inspect the preview, and then go live.

HLS is another ingest option supported by YouTube, but it does not solve playlist-boundary pauses. YouTube notes that HLS has higher latency because it sends segments rather than a continuous RTMP feed, and it has its own segment and rolling-playlist requirements. Choose an ingest protocol that your encoder supports and that fits the broadcast; do not select HLS as a way to guarantee seamless playback.

Test for pauses before the service

“Without gaps” can mean keeping one YouTube Live event open while the playlist repeats, or it can mean that viewers hear and see no pause at each file change. The loop setting addresses the first goal; the cited OBS documentation does not establish the second as guaranteed.

Elebase USB to USB C Adapter for iPhone 18 Pro Max,USBC Car Charger Adapter
  • Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
  • Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
  • Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
  • Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
  • 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
  1. Run a test using the exact sermon files, OBS scene, and computer you plan to use.
  2. Listen and watch at every change from one file to the next, including the transition from the last file back to the first. Check audio continuity and picture continuity, not only whether the stream remains live.
  3. Check the YouTube Live Control Room preview and stream health, and monitor OBS for playback stalls or a lost connection.
  4. If a transition pauses, consider editing the sermons into one continuous program or inserting a deliberate short holding image and audio segment. These are production options, not documented guarantees; test the revised sequence again.

YouTube recommends testing before streaming and continuously monitoring audio and video. A playlist setting alone is not evidence that the actual recordings will transition without a perceptible pause.

Plan for long broadcasts and recovery

YouTube says streams under 12 hours are automatically archived. Do not assume that a single continuous event extending beyond that limit will produce a permanent archive. If an archive matters, plan a separate recording or a broadcast schedule appropriate to your needs, and verify the result in YouTube Studio.

A local OBS broadcast depends on the computer, its access to the media files, the internet connection, and an operator being available to respond if playback or the connection stops. YouTube advises monitoring the live stream; arrange supervision for the full broadcast rather than assuming the playlist setting also handles equipment or network failures.

Or let it run in the cloud

If the goal is continuous prerecorded sermons on YouTube without keeping a computer running at the church, StreamNeo is a cloud option.
