For a prerecorded video looping to YouTube from an Indian VPS, start with H.264 video, AAC stereo audio, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval. Choose resolution and bitrate from YouTube’s recommendations, then test that the VPS can encode and sustain the upload continuously. An Indian server location does not by itself guarantee a reliable route or enough bandwidth.
Recommended starting settings
YouTube’s H.264 guidance gives the following video bitrates. These are platform recommendations, not measurements of a particular VPS or a guarantee of uninterrupted streaming.
| Output | YouTube H.264 video bitrate |
|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 8 Mbps recommended; 3 Mbps minimum |
| 720p at 60 fps | 8 Mbps recommended; 3 Mbps minimum |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 14 Mbps recommended; 5 Mbps minimum |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 17 Mbps recommended; 6 Mbps minimum |
For stereo audio, YouTube recommends AAC at 128 kbps and 44.1 kHz. Use progressive video, square pixels, and Rec. 709 for SDR. YouTube recommends a two-second keyframe interval and says not to exceed four seconds; it also recommends CBR and supports RTMP and RTMPS ingest, with RTMPS recommended to encrypt the connection in transit. See YouTube’s encoder settings and bitrate recommendations.
For a 30 fps output, a 60-frame GOP gives a two-second interval. The example below uses 720p30’s recommended video bitrate. It does not resize or otherwise normalize the input, so confirm the resulting output format and bitrate rather than assuming the command has made the source match those settings.

FFmpeg command for a prerecorded video loop
Replace the destination placeholders with the exact RTMPS ingest URL and stream key shown in YouTube Live Control Room. This is a starting template, not a tested command:
ffmpeg -re -stream_loop -1 -i input.mp4
-map 0:v:0 -map 0:a:0?
-c:v libx264 -preset veryfast -pix_fmt yuv420p
-r 30 -g 60 -keyint_min 60 -sc_threshold 0
-b:v 8M -maxrate 8M -bufsize 16M
-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100 -ac 2
-f flv "$YOUTUBE_RTMPS_URL/$YOUTUBE_STREAM_KEY"
What the important options do
-rereads a file at its native rate rather than sending it as fast as possible.-stream_loop -1repeats the input indefinitely.-map 0:v:0 -map 0:a:0?selects the first video stream and, if present, the first audio stream. If your file has no audio, check that the output works as intended; do not assume an audio track exists.-c:v libx264encodes H.264;-pix_fmt yuv420pselects a widely supported pixel format.-r 30 -g 60 -keyint_min 60 -sc_threshold 0targets 30 fps and a 60-frame keyframe interval, with scene-cut keyframes disabled so the GOP cadence stays predictable.-b:vand-maxrateset the target and maximum video bitrate;-bufsizesets the rate-control buffer.-c:a aac -b:a 128k -ar 44100 -ac 2encodes stereo AAC at YouTube’s recommended audio rate and sample rate.-f flvselects the FLV output format used with RTMP-family ingest. The URL form must match the endpoint and your installed FFmpeg build.
FFmpeg documents -re as a way to control input read rate. Do not blindly apply it to an actual capture or live network input: FFmpeg cautions against low read rates for real-time capture/live inputs. See FFmpeg’s command-line documentation.
Adjusting resolution and bitrate
The sample command does not scale the source. If the source is 1080p, specifying -r 30 changes the frame rate target but does not make it 720p. To output a different resolution, add an explicit scaling filter and verify the result; choose settings the source, CPU, and VPS egress can sustain. For 1080p30, YouTube’s recommended H.264 video bitrate is 14 Mbps. If the VPS cannot sustain that rate or encode reliably, step down to a supported format such as 720p30 instead of allowing repeated overloads or drops.

Use YouTube’s recommended bitrate for your chosen output as a starting point, then test representative motion and audio. The upload link needs headroom beyond the video bitrate for audio and network variation; a brief speed test alone does not establish that the VPS will hold the rate around the clock. Check YouTube’s stream health during a test.
Protect the YouTube stream key
- In YouTube Studio, open Create > Go live to reach Live Control Room and create or select the stream.
- Copy the current stream URL and stream key from the stream settings. Use the endpoint and key YouTube supplies rather than guessing a server address.
- Put the key in a protected environment variable or secret store. Do not publish it in a script repository, expose it in logs, or leave it in shell history. Treat it like a password: anyone with access may be able to publish to your stream.
- Start FFmpeg and check the Live Control Room preview and stream-health messages before making the event public.
See YouTube’s live stream settings guidance for the stream URL and key workflow. Channel eligibility and live-stream setup can affect whether you can start a stream; confirm access in YouTube Studio before configuring a long-running process.
Recovering after a temporary publishing failure
A basic FFmpeg command may exit when its output connection fails. FFmpeg documents a FIFO muxer pattern that continues real-time processing and attempts recovery after temporary output failures. The following excerpt illustrates those options; adapt it to the actual input, codec settings, output format, FFmpeg version, and endpoint:

The recovery options are documented in FFmpeg’s formats and muxers documentation. They do not guarantee YouTube will preserve one uninterrupted public event after a disconnect. They also do not replace a service manager, monitoring, or a deliberate recovery test. FFmpeg’s protocol documentation describes reconnect-related controls, but which controls apply depends on the protocol and whether they work for the relevant input or output.
For a production stream, supervise the FFmpeg process with an operating-system service manager and configure a restart policy appropriate to your setup. Alert on process exit and sustained network or CPU problems, and verify in Live Control Room that publishing has resumed after recovery. A process restarting is not proof that the public stream has returned correctly.

1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problemsWhat to verify on an Indian VPS
The available platform and FFmpeg guidance does not establish an India-specific bitrate, YouTube ingest address, provider recommendation, or route-quality result. A server being in India does not prove that its outbound path to YouTube will sustain your stream. Evaluate the actual server and route you plan to use.

- Outbound capacity: Check sustained egress capacity and any traffic or bandwidth limits, not just a headline port speed.
- Encoding headroom: Run the chosen resolution, frame rate, codec, and preset under load. Ensure CPU use leaves room for normal variation and other VPS work.
- Provider terms: Confirm that continuous video streaming is allowed by the provider’s acceptable-use and network policies.
- Maintenance and restart behavior: Find out how provider maintenance or instance restarts are handled, and plan for FFmpeg to start again if the VPS reboots.
- Real route test: Publish a private or unlisted test from the selected VPS to YouTube and review stream health and playback. Do not infer YouTube performance from a generic speed test alone.
When comparing VPS candidates, assess sustained outbound capacity and limits, CPU performance under your intended settings, measured route behavior, terms of service, and operational recovery options. No provider can be recommended on location alone.

- Verify that the channel is able to live stream and create the event in Live Control Room.
- Choose a resolution and frame rate that the VPS can encode and upload reliably; apply the corresponding YouTube bitrate recommendation.
- Test with representative movement and audio. Inspect the preview, stream-health messages, and the actual playback on a separate device or connection.
- Monitor YouTube stream health as well as FFmpeg process status, CPU, and network throughput. If recording locally, monitor disk space too.
- Deliberately test recovery before depending on the stream. Check that the process recovers and that Live Control Room and public playback behave as expected.
YouTube advises testing before going live, checking the Live Control Room preview and messages, and monitoring audio and video quality while streaming. Its live streaming tips include further preparation and monitoring guidance.
Copyright and continuous programming
Having permission to stream a recording does not automatically answer every question about YouTube monetization or whether a channel’s programming is sufficiently original. Use content you own or have rights to stream, including music and any embedded footage, and review YouTube’s current copyright and monetization rules for the channel. A 24/7 loop should not be treated as a workaround for content rights or platform policies.
