On an eligible YouTube channel, a 24/7 livestream can earn through advertising, one-time live-chat purchases such as Super Chats and Super Stickers, and recurring channel memberships. These are separate features with separate eligibility rules; enabling monetization does not guarantee that ads will serve or that every payment feature will be available on every stream. The main operational wrinkle is the replay: a single stream longer than 12 hours may not be archived by YouTube.
How the three revenue options differ

Each feature has its own availability and setup requirements. Meeting the threshold for one does not necessarily make a channel eligible for all three.
How ads work on a 24/7 YouTube livestream
When a channel is monetized and monetization is enabled for a live stream, YouTube turns on pre-roll and display ads automatically. Mid-roll ads can be automatic, scheduled, or inserted manually in Live Control Room. YouTube cautions that “Ad slots are not guaranteed to serve ads.” Its ad systems decide which slots receive ads; a viewer who is not served an ad continues watching the stream, while a viewer who receives one returns when it ends or is skipped.
Choose a mid-roll approach

There is no guaranteed revenue tier among these approaches. Select based on how much control you want over interruptions and how much ongoing operation you can manage. YouTube reported in January 2024 that creators who selected live automatic mid-roll ads had over 20% average uplift in in-stream ad revenue per hour compared with channels that did not, averaged across 207 countries. That is YouTube’s reported average comparison, not an earnings forecast for a particular channel or a guarantee for a 24/7 stream.

Horizontal and vertical streams
YouTube’s live-feature table lists pre-roll and mid-roll ads for horizontal livestreams, but not for the vertical live feed. The table lists memberships and gifted memberships for both orientations. If ad availability is central to the setup, confirm the current feature table and stream format before going live.
How Super Chats and Super Stickers work
A Super Chat is a paid message highlighted in live chat; a Super Sticker is a paid animated image shown there. They are fan-funding features tied to live chat, not general donation buttons that work in every player context. Creators must meet YouTube’s minimum fan-funding requirements, accept the relevant commerce terms, and satisfy location and channel criteria.

They are unavailable on age-restricted, unlisted, private, made-for-kids, and YouTube Giving fundraiser videos. They also cannot be used when live chat or comments are turned off. A 24/7 schedule itself does not make them available: eligibility and the stream’s settings still matter.
How channel memberships work during a livestream
Memberships are recurring monthly payments for channel perks, such as badges and emoji or other creator-defined benefits. They differ from Super Chats and Super Stickers, which are one-time live-chat purchases. Members can participate in eligible live-stream features, but membership availability depends on the channel meeting YouTube’s requirements and enabling the feature; a channel designated as made for kids cannot offer memberships.

Eligibility: thresholds and other checks
YouTube’s monetization table lists these channel thresholds for the relevant features. They are not the complete eligibility check: country or region, account standing, content eligibility, required terms or modules, and individual feature rules also apply.

For fan funding, broad requirements include joining the YouTube Partner Program, being at least 18, living in a location where the feature is available, accepting and complying with the applicable Commerce Product Module or legacy addendum, and turning on the feature. Memberships have additional audience and eligible-content criteria. Check YouTube Studio’s Earn tab and the current official requirements before relying on a threshold; eligibility rules and availability can change.

Made-for-kids and other stream restrictions
A made-for-kids designation disables memberships and Super Chat/Super Stickers and disables personalized ads. Other restrictions also affect feature availability: for example, Super Chats and Stickers are unavailable if live chat is off or if the video is age-restricted, unlisted, private, or a YouTube Giving fundraiser. Review the audience designation and individual stream settings before treating any revenue feature as available.

YouTube says it can automatically archive a livestream if it is less than 12 hours. A stream exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all. If you need a replay of a continuous 24-hour broadcast, make a local recording backup and verify that your chosen broadcast workflow is recording correctly. The archive limit is about replay capture; it does not establish that a stream over 12 hours automatically loses monetization or must be stopped at 12 hours.

Common monetization problems and what to check
- Mid-rolls are enabled but viewers report no ads: an enabled slot is not guaranteed to serve an ad. Check the monetization setting and ad mode, but do not assume every scheduled or automatic break will produce an impression.
- Super Chat or Stickers are missing: confirm channel and location eligibility, accept the relevant commerce terms, and check that live chat is enabled. Check that the stream is not age-restricted, unlisted, private, made for kids, or a YouTube Giving fundraiser.
- Memberships are unavailable: review YPP and membership-specific audience and content criteria, location, applicable terms, and whether the feature is enabled. Made-for-kids channels cannot offer memberships.
- A vertical broadcast has no live ad controls: YouTube’s feature table lists live pre-roll and mid-roll ads for horizontal streams, not the vertical live feed. Confirm orientation-specific availability in current YouTube guidance.
- A continuous stream has no usable replay: a single broadcast exceeding 12 hours may not be archived. Use a local recording backup if preserving a replay matters.
