Yes. A cloud PC can run a YouTube encoder around the clock just as a VPS can, provided it has enough encoding capacity, stable outbound bandwidth, and terms that allow continuous use. A cloud PC is often easier if you want to control OBS through a remote desktop; a VPS can suit an unattended, automated feed. Neither label guarantees better uptime, lower cost, more viewers, or monetization.
Cloud PC or VPS: which fits your workflow?
The important question is not whether a host is called a cloud PC or a VPS. It is whether the specific machine can encode your chosen stream, upload it reliably to YouTube, and keep doing so under the provider’s terms. The OBS Project cautions that compatible hardware alone does not guarantee streaming capability (OBS system requirements).

For OBS scenes, browser sources, or hands-on control, start with cloud PCs that explicitly provide a compatible encoder and stable outbound bandwidth. For a pre-rendered loop that should run without regular desktop interaction, a VPS may be a better workflow fit if its available encoder and transfer allowance suit the job. These are practical distinctions, not evidence that either category is inherently more reliable or cheaper.
Will it keep streaming if you close your laptop?
If the encoder is running on a remote cloud PC or VPS, closing your laptop does not itself stop that remote process. The stream can continue while the remote machine and encoder remain active and connected. That is different from a guarantee of uninterrupted service: provider maintenance, instance failure, a process crash, network trouble, YouTube ingest issues, or a policy interruption can still end a stream.

Before committing, check the provider’s current terms for continuous workloads, the machine’s restart behavior, outbound bandwidth and egress limits, and whether you can monitor and recover the encoder remotely. No specific provider plan, India region, price, or uptime guarantee is established here.
Configure the encoder and test the stream
- Confirm the YouTube channel can go live. YouTube says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days. Its current help page also says streamers must be at least 16. Encoder streaming is one of the available methods (YouTube: Get started with live streaming).
- Choose the remote machine for the actual workload. Account for resolution, frame rate, scenes, and sources. OBS notes that CPU demand varies with encoder, resolution, frame rate, and scene complexity. Hardware encoding can shift work from the CPU to a specialized GPU component, but compatibility depends on hardware and drivers. OBS documents NVENC, AMD AMF, and Intel Quick Sync among its supported options (OBS encoder settings).
- Set YouTube-compatible output. YouTube recommends RTMPS, constant bitrate (CBR), and a two-second keyframe interval in its live encoder guidance (YouTube: Encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions). For H.264, its recommended bitrates include:

These are YouTube’s recommended ingest settings, not a guarantee that a cloud host can sustain them. Choose an output your machine and connection can maintain; higher frame rates and more complex scenes can increase encoding demand.

- Connect OBS to the stream. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule the live stream and copy its stream key. In OBS, open Settings > Stream, select YouTube as the service, and connect the account or enter the stream key using the available setup. Keep the key private: anyone who obtains it may be able to broadcast to the stream.
- Test representative material before relying on it. YouTube recommends testing with audio and motion similar to the actual broadcast and checking stream health. Use a private or unlisted test where appropriate, then confirm that the encoder remains stable and YouTube reports a healthy incoming feed.
- Plan for the stream limit. YouTube’s setup guidance states a limit of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key at the same time (YouTube live-stream setup guidance).
India: choose location for network and cost, not presumed reach
For an India-based channel, compare India-region availability, routing to YouTube ingest, sustained upload, provider support, and the full cost of compute and outbound transfer. The available sources do not establish that an encoder hosted in India—or one hosted elsewhere—gets a recommendation or discovery advantage. Do not choose a location on the assumption that it will improve YouTube reach.
Google announced Gifts in India on 7 July 2026 and reported that the number of Indian YouTube channels earning seven figures or more in INR revenue was up over 20% year over year. Google also said 92% of surveyed Indian YouTube creators agreed YouTube helps them foster a deep community with their audience. These are company-reported figures from that announcement, not independent findings or evidence that nonstop streams earn more (Google’s YouTube news and announcements).

Rights, live-stream restrictions, and monetization
The host does not change the rules for what you broadcast. YouTube’s live-stream terms require compliance with Community Guidelines, the necessary rights to exploit the content on Google services, and applicable laws and regulatory requirements in the stream territory for the duration of the stream (YouTube Terms of Service).
YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches, including other broadcasts. A match can replace the live picture with a placeholder; if the content remains, YouTube may temporarily interrupt or terminate the stream. Even if you have a licence, the rights owner may need to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist (YouTube: Copyright issues with live streams). A remote host cannot prevent a rights-based interruption.

Continuous uptime is not monetization approval. YouTube’s guidance cautions that videos simply showing software use for extended periods may not be accepted for monetization. That is a content and channel-review issue, not proof that every looping stream is ineligible (YouTube channel monetization policies). Consider whether the material is original, rights-cleared, and valuable to viewers, as well as whether your channel meets YouTube’s applicable monetization requirements.

- Whether the intended operating system and remote access support OBS or your automated pipeline.
- The actual CPU/GPU allocation, compatible drivers, and encoder availability for the chosen codec and stream load.
- Sustained outbound bandwidth and routing to YouTube, plus any data-transfer or egress limits and charges.
- India-region availability if it matters to your network path, and the provider’s maintenance and restart behavior.
- Monitoring, automatic restart or recovery options, and a way to restore OBS settings or scripts.
- Written terms permitting a continuous stream, alongside the total cost of compute, storage, GPU, IP address, and traffic.
Test the exact intended content and settings before depending on the setup. A successful short test helps validate the encoder and connection, but does not establish long-term uptime.
