A finished live broadcast may also be available as a replay on the channel. Those are two different kinds of past content, and neither is guaranteed to be available.
Where to find earlier podcast episodes
On YouTube, a podcast show is a playlist, and its episodes are videos in that playlist. Open the show’s podcast playlist and choose the episode you want. YouTube’s guidance describes that playlist as a place for full-length episodes, which creators can arrange in the order listeners should consume them. See YouTube’s podcast setup guidance and podcast discovery tips.
If an episode is missing, the creator may not have added it to the playlist or made its video viewable. A podcast playlist is not the same thing as an archive of every broadcast featuring the show.
Where to find a past live stream
After a live stream ends, the channel may post a replay or highlights as videos. Check the channel’s videos and live-stream area for a replay. YouTube recommends organizing stream archives and highlights into playlists, but a replay’s presence on a channel depends on whether it was captured and retained and whether its visibility allows you to watch it. YouTube’s live-stream guidance explains that a channel may post a replay or highlights; its promotion guidance covers organizing archives and highlights.

Why a replay might not be there
YouTube Help says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but that is not a guarantee that every shorter stream will remain publicly available. Streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. The creator can also change an archive’s visibility or delete it. These duration guidelines are from YouTube Help’s archive live streams documentation, checked October 3, 2026.
Does a podcast live stream automatically play old episodes?
Not as a general YouTube podcast feature established by the help pages cited here. A podcast playlist contains episode videos; a live-stream replay is a video that may be posted after a broadcast. Whether a creator chooses to play earlier episodes during a current live broadcast depends on that creator’s programming. Don’t assume that opening a podcast live stream will start an old episode or that the live stream itself is a playlist of past episodes.
