How to Stream Videos on YouTube 24/7 Using OBS in India

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

You can use OBS to send a prerecorded video or other program to YouTube Live, but OBS does not make a broadcast immune to power, network, computer, or YouTube interruptions. Verify that live streaming is available on your channel, create an encoder stream in YouTube Studio, enter its stream key in OBS, test the preview and stream health, and then go live. For a 24-hour feed, plan for monitoring and recovery—and do not rely on YouTube to archive a stream that runs longer than 12 hours.

What you need before starting

  • A verified YouTube channel with live streaming enabled and no applicable live-stream restriction. YouTube’s channel requirements include having no live-stream restriction in the past 90 days; YouTube also sets a minimum age of 16 for live streaming. Check your channel’s current status in YouTube Studio. YouTube’s live-streaming access guidance is the authority for eligibility.
  • OBS Studio installed on a computer that can encode your video and audio continuously.
  • A stable internet connection with enough sustained upload capacity for the selected stream bitrate, plus the source video and any audio you have the rights to broadcast.
  • A plan for power, network interruptions, monitoring, and any local recording you need. A computer running OBS is not a guaranteed unattended 24/7 system.

YouTube’s standard encoder workflow applies in India; the official guidance does not specify a separate India-only OBS process. Your channel’s actual eligibility and the stability of the upload connection at your location are what matter.

Set up a YouTube Live stream and connect OBS

  1. Confirm access: In YouTube Studio, check that you can create a live stream. If live streaming is not yet available, follow the account prompts and wait for Studio to show access. An OBS community guide says activation after verification can take 24 hours, but use YouTube Studio’s status for your account rather than treating that timing as a guarantee. YouTube live-streaming access
  2. Create an encoder stream: Open YouTube Studio, go to Create > Go live, then use the Live Control Room to create or schedule a stream using streaming software (an encoder). Scheduling can create a watch page in advance for viewers. YouTube’s encoder setup instructions
  3. Copy the server URL and stream key: In the Live Control Room’s stream settings, copy the server URL and stream key. In OBS, open Settings > Stream. Choose YouTube if the service is offered, or enter the YouTube server URL and stream key using the custom service option. Labels may vary by OBS version. Treat the stream key like a password: anyone who has it may be able to broadcast to your stream. If it is exposed, reset it in YouTube Studio and update OBS. YouTube encoder setup · OBS YouTube integration guide
  4. Prepare the scene: Add the video source you intend to show and confirm the audio source and levels. Preview the scene in OBS so you can check framing, sound, and playback before sending it to YouTube.
  5. Start the encoder and inspect the preview: Click Start Streaming in OBS. In the Live Control Room, wait for the incoming stream preview and check the stream-health information. A successful OBS connection alone does not confirm that viewers can see and hear the intended program.
  6. Go live: When the preview looks and sounds right, click Go live in the Live Control Room if the workflow requires it. Check the public watch page from another device or browser. For scheduled broadcasts, make sure you are following the on-screen prompts for the scheduled event.
  7. Keep watch on the setup: Monitor stream health and the actual watch page. If you are recording locally, verify that the recording file is growing and that the destination drive has space. YouTube’s general streaming tips recommend testing with similar movement and audio to the intended broadcast and checking accessibility on channel/watch pages and mobile devices. YouTube streaming tips

Choose upload capacity and encoder settings

Set OBS to a resolution and bitrate your computer and connection can sustain, rather than choosing the highest available quality by default. YouTube recommends that the total stream bitrate stay below available upload bandwidth and recommends leaving 20% upload headroom. For example, if OBS sends a total of 10 Mbps, aim for at least 12.5 Mbps of sustained available upload capacity at the streaming computer; other devices sharing the connection can reduce what is available in practice. This is a planning calculation from YouTube’s 20% headroom guidance, not an uptime guarantee. YouTube network guidance

OBS or stream choice Guidance Why it matters
Rate control CBR (constant bitrate) Recommended by YouTube for a more consistent outgoing stream.
Keyframe interval 2 seconds; do not exceed 4 seconds Matches YouTube’s encoder guidance.
Audio codec AAC or MP3 Both are listed in YouTube’s encoder recommendations.
Connection protocol RTMPS where supported YouTube recommends RTMPS when available.
Resolution and bitrate Choose to fit the source, encoder capacity, and stable upload bandwidth A high setting that the computer or connection cannot sustain can cause health problems or interruptions.

These are general YouTube recommendations, not a specific preset for every computer or Indian internet connection. Test the actual route and configuration you intend to use. YouTube notes that shared networks and connectivity disruptions can reduce capacity or break a stream; a speed-test result does not establish that an overnight connection will remain stable. Decide whether one broadcast should run all day

There is a significant archive limitation for long streams. YouTube Help says, “If your stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all.” Streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived, but YouTube recommends keeping a local recording as a backup if the replay matters. A single 24-hour broadcast may therefore have no complete YouTube archive. YouTube archive guidance

Viewers also should not be promised a full-day rewind buffer: YouTube says DVR capabilities may be limited or unavailable for streams longer than 12 hours. YouTube DVR guidance

Approach Potential advantage Trade-off to plan for
One extended broadcast Continuous viewing without planned session boundaries A stream over 12 hours may not be captured at all, DVR may be limited or unavailable, and a failure can interrupt the continuous session.
Shorter scheduled sessions under 12 hours Better aligned with YouTube’s stated automatic-archive behavior for streams under 12 hours Transitions create possible interruption points, and shorter sessions do not guarantee a complete archive or automatic recovery.

Choose based on whether uninterrupted viewer continuity or replay availability matters more, and on whether someone can monitor the encoder and connection. Neither approach guarantees uptime or a complete recording.

Rights, channel rules, and monetization

Clear the video and audio for continuous live use

YouTube’s live-stream terms require creators to follow Community Guidelines and applicable laws and to hold the necessary rights to use the live content, including relevant music rights. Use original, licensed, or otherwise authorized material, and confirm that a license covers the intended territory and continuous live use. A video’s presence on YouTube does not by itself clear it for rebroadcast. YouTube Terms of Service

Keep the broadcast on your own eligible channel

A live-stream restriction can affect the channel’s ability to broadcast. YouTube says a restricted channel may not use another channel to evade that restriction, so resolve the status through the affected account rather than attempting a workaround. YouTube live-streaming access guidance

Do not assume a 24/7 feed will earn money

YouTube Partner Program channels may monetize live streams when monetization is enabled, but eligibility, settings, and ad delivery do not guarantee approval or a particular amount of revenue. No India-specific earnings figure for a 24/7 OBS stream is established by the official guidance cited here. YouTube live-stream monetization guidance · Encoder stream settings

Troubleshoot common 24/7 OBS problems

Symptom Likely cause What to check or do
YouTube does not show an incoming preview Wrong server URL or stream key, stream not started in OBS, or live access not enabled Recheck the Live Control Room details against Settings > Stream in OBS, confirm OBS is sending, and verify current channel access in YouTube Studio. Reset an exposed key.
Health warnings, buffering, or a broken stream Insufficient or fluctuating upload bandwidth, a shared connection, or network disruption Check the available upload path while OBS is running, reduce bitrate if needed, preserve YouTube’s recommended 20% headroom, and test the connection under representative conditions.
Video or audio is missing or incorrect Incorrect OBS source, audio routing, or scene configuration Inspect the OBS preview and meters before going live; compare them with the Live Control Room preview and the public watch page.
The broadcast stops when nobody is present Computer, OBS, power, or internet failure; the setup is not being monitored Check the computer and connection, arrange a monitoring process, and decide how an operator will respond. The documented YouTube encoder workflow does not guarantee recovery from every failure.
A very long stream has no complete replay or full rewind YouTube’s archive and DVR limitations for streams longer than 12 hours Keep a tested local recording if the full program matters, and set viewer expectations about rewind on an extended broadcast.

Or let it run in the cloud

If the goal is an always-on YouTube channel rather than operating OBS on a computer at home, StreamNeo is a cloud service for looping uploaded videos on YouTube. Upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. The cloud keeps the stream running without your computer or home connection staying on; StreamNeo also automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. It streams uploaded video, not a live camera feed, and supports YouTube only.

  • Each slot runs one always-on stream with 24/7 looping and playlists.
  • It streams the uploaded file as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one flat price per slot with no re-encode or quality tiers.
  • Each slot includes 10 GB of storage, pooled across your active slots, and support from the StreamNeo team.
  • The first day is free with no card, one free day per account. After that, choose a day, week, month, six months, or year; cancel any time. UPI and cards are available in India, and card checkout is available worldwide. For five or more slots, contact support.

Monthly: $9.99 per month. The other listed durations are Daily $0.99 per day · Weekly $2.99 per week · 6 months $49.99 for 6 months · Yearly $89.99 a year.
