What’s actually slowing this PC down?

First identify where the interruption occurs: in the encoder running on the VPS, on the VPS’s outbound path to YouTube, or in viewer playback. Check YouTube Live Control Room’s stream health, compare it with encoder logs and output, and measure sustained outbound capacity before changing providers. YouTube’s guidance is general; it does not establish that an Indian VPS, or any particular Indian provider or route, causes buffering.
Start by locating the failure
“Buffering” can describe different problems. The stream may be breaking up before it reaches YouTube, YouTube may be reporting trouble receiving the feed, or the feed may be healthy while one or more viewers have playback interruptions. Fixes differ by layer, so record evidence before changing settings or moving hosts.
Find out who is affected
- If one viewer is affected, check playback on another device and network. The viewer’s connection or device may be involved.
- If several viewers on different connections report a problem, inspect the encoder and the stream’s status in YouTube Live Control Room.
- Open the watch page separately from the encoder’s local output. A good local output does not prove YouTube is receiving a stable feed; a healthy ingest does not prove every viewer has a good connection.
YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance distinguishes viewer-side issues from encoder problems: YouTube: Troubleshoot live stream issues.
Read YouTube’s stream-health status
In YouTube Studio, open the live stream’s Live Control Room and inspect stream health while the issue is happening. Note the exact status or error text and the time it appeared. The dashboard exposes real-time metrics and health messages; a timestamped status is more useful for diagnosis than a general report that the stream buffered.

- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Keep a short incident log containing the start and end time, duration, Live Control Room message, encoder log entries, CPU load, and outbound throughput. If reports come from viewers, note whether they use the same network or different ones. YouTube’s documentation describes stream health and the available dashboard information: YouTube: Monitor your live stream.
Check the encoder on the VPS
Confirm the encoder process is running and sending the intended stream. Check its current software version, output or recording, CPU load, and whether a local archive continues growing during the reported interruption. If the encoded output itself stutters, freezes, or has gaps, focus first on the source and encoding workload rather than the VPS-to-YouTube route.

Match the output to YouTube’s recommendations
Use a supported resolution and frame rate, then select the recommended bitrate for the codec and output you actually use. For H.264, YouTube’s current guidance (retrieved 2026) gives these examples:
| Output | Recommended H.264 bitrate |
|---|---|
| 1080p60 | 17 Mbps |
| 1080p30 | 14 Mbps |
| 720p60 | 8 Mbps |
| 720p30 | 6 Mbps |
| 480p30 | 4 Mbps |
These are YouTube ingest recommendations, not a measurement or guarantee of what your VPS can sustain. Check YouTube’s current table for the exact codec, resolution, and frame rate in use: YouTube: Encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions.

- What You Get: Anker USB-C Hub (7-in-1), welcome guide, 18-month warranty, and our friendly customer service.
- Use CBR (constant bitrate) and a two-second keyframe interval; YouTube says not to exceed four seconds.
- YouTube recommends RTMPS. Confirm that the encoder is using the intended protocol and the correct stream key.
- Test with representative footage, including movement and audio, rather than judging a static screen alone.
If the encoder’s output is unhealthy despite appropriate settings, inspect the source and encoding load; a test with another encoder can help isolate an encoder-specific problem. YouTube’s streaming tips also warn that a connectivity disruption can break a stream: YouTube: Streaming tips.
Measure outbound capacity to YouTube
If the local output looks sound but Live Control Room reports receiving trouble, investigate the VPS’s outbound connection. Measure sustained upload (egress) under representative conditions rather than relying only on a headline speed-test result. YouTube recommends that total stream bitrate fit within available upload bandwidth, with 20% headroom.

- Please Note: To reach 10Gbps speed, keep the cable under 3.3 ft. For USB A Male to USB C adapters, try flipping the USB C connector. USB C Male to USB A adapters support bidirectional 10Gbps transfer within 3.3 ft
For a single 10 Mbps feed, applying that 20% margin means at least 12 Mbps of usable sustained upload capacity for that feed. If you send a primary and backup feed, include both bitrates in the total; the example is arithmetic based on YouTube’s margin guidance, not a guarantee from any VPS provider.
Ask the host to check relevant limits or problems—such as the VPS network-interface cap, traffic shaping, packet loss, congestion, and the route to YouTube ingest—if measurements show egress loss, jitter, or recurring drops at the same time as stream-health errors. These are diagnostic questions to investigate, not evidence that Indian routes or providers are inherently unreliable. YouTube’s bandwidth and test-stream guidance is at YouTube’s encoder and streaming settings and YouTube’s streaming tips.

Choose latency with buffering risk in mind
Lower latency means less read-ahead buffering in the player, which makes playback more vulnerable to interruptions. YouTube states: “With lower latency, your viewers may experience more playback buffering.” For unattended documentary or other continuous programming without active audience interaction, use normal latency as the starting point and compare stability before selecting a lower-latency mode.
- Normal latency: a sensible baseline when immediate audience interaction is not important.
- Low latency: consider it when interaction matters, then test playback stability across viewer connections.
- Ultra-low latency: intended for real-time conversation; its reduced buffering makes interruptions more likely when connections vary.
For details on the trade-off, see YouTube: Understand live streaming latency.
Run a controlled test before moving hosts
- Create an unlisted test stream and use representative content and the same encoder settings as the 24/7 stream.
- Record the Live Control Room health status, encoder output and CPU, and sustained egress throughout the test.
- Run it long enough to cover the pattern of the reported interruptions; a short successful test cannot rule out a problem that occurs only periodically.
- If continuous availability matters, test the backup encoder or failover path rather than assuming it will work under load.
- Compare affected and unaffected viewers on different networks when playback reports are involved.
If the encoder and egress remain healthy while only one viewer or network is affected, keep investigating playback-side conditions. If interruptions coincide with encoder load or unhealthy local output, address that layer. If output is healthy but egress loss or YouTube ingest errors align with interruptions, give the host the timestamps and measurements and ask it to investigate the route and limits. A region change is a hypothesis to test, not a guaranteed remedy.
If the setup actually ingests using HLS, account for its higher latency than RTMP because HLS sends segments; do not apply that distinction to a stream using another ingest protocol. See YouTube’s streaming protocol and encoder guidance.
Or let it run in the cloud
