To loop local videos in a YouTube Live broadcast, set the repeat option in the source that feeds your stream: use an OBS Media Source with Loop enabled for one file, or a VLC Video source with Loop Playlist enabled for an ordered sequence. YouTube’s playlist Loop control repeats playback for viewers; it does not make your OBS media repeat.
Choose the right kind of loop
If you mean a playlist you are watching on YouTube, use YouTube’s playback controls. If you are broadcasting local video files as a YouTube Live stream, configure the media source in your encoder. These are separate controls: viewer-side looping does not change how OBS plays files into a live broadcast.
Loop one local video in OBS
- Open OBS and select the scene that will carry the video.
- In the Sources box, select + and choose Media Source.
- Create a new source or select an existing one, then choose the local video file.
- Turn on Loop in the source properties and confirm with OK.
- Preview the scene and check that the file restarts after it reaches the end.
OBS documents support for several formats, including MP4, MOV, MKV and WebM. Check OBS’s Media Sources documentation for source settings and supported media details.
Loop several local videos in sequence
- Install VLC Media Player if it is not already installed. OBS requires VLC for its VLC Video source; a 64-bit OBS installation needs 64-bit VLC.
- In OBS, select + in the Sources box and add a VLC Video source.
- Open the source properties and add the local video files to its playlist in the order you want them to play.
- Leave Loop Playlist enabled so the playlist starts again after the final file.
- Preview the sequence from beginning to end, including its restart, before using it in a live broadcast.
OBS documents Loop Playlist as restarting the source after it runs out of media files; the option is on by default. See the OBS Media Sources documentation.

- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Check scene visibility before streaming
The VLC Video source’s documented default visibility behavior is Stop when not visible, restart when visible. If you switch to a scene where the source is hidden, playback may stop and then restart when it becomes visible again.
- Review the source’s Visibility Behaviour if the playlist should continue through scene changes.
- Test the scene transitions you plan to use; do not assume playback will continue unchanged when the source is hidden.
- OBS recommends a short stream test before the first stream. Its Quick Start Guide covers testing and initial setup.
Looping controls only repeat the media. They do not guarantee that your computer, encoder, network connection or broadcast will remain available indefinitely.

Loop a playlist you are watching on YouTube
- Desktop: Open a video that belongs to the playlist, expand the playlist panel and click Loop.
- Android: Play the playlist and use the Loop control in the playlist control box. Tap it again to repeat the current video.
- TV or gaming console: Select the playlist, open playback controls and set Repeat until it indicates Repeat • Playlist.
YouTube documents these as viewer playback controls, not live encoder settings. See YouTube’s playlist-looping instructions.
What about looping an embedded playlist?
The YouTube IFrame Player API provides a loop parameter for playlist players. To loop a single embedded video, the API documentation says to set the playlist parameter to that same video’s ID as well as setting loop=1. This affects an embed, not an OBS source. See the YouTube IFrame Player API parameters.

Before leaving a live playlist running
- Confirm that the playlist or file repeats correctly and that scene changes do not interrupt it unexpectedly.
- Use only media you have the right to stream, and check YouTube’s applicable copyright and platform rules.
- Remember that a loop setting does not itself keep OBS, your computer, internet connection or YouTube broadcast running.
Or let it run in the cloud
If you want a pre-recorded playlist to keep a YouTube channel live without leaving a computer running, StreamNeo runs the loop in the cloud. Upload your video or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; uploaded video streams as made, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot; and StreamNeo automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. In India, UPI works; cards are accepted in India and worldwide card checkout is available.
