Generally, YouTube supports sending pre-recorded video as a live feed through an encoder, and its published guidance reviewed here does not identify a blanket ban on 24/7 prerecorded streams. That is not a guarantee that every format or channel will be approved. Copyright and Community Guidelines still apply, repetitive or mass-produced content can put monetization at risk, and a stream that runs longer than 12 hours may not be saved as a replay.
What YouTube’s guidance does—and does not—establish
YouTube supports live streaming through mobile devices, webcams, and encoders. Its encoder guidance also describes a way to schedule prerecorded media and send it directly to YouTube Live. That establishes a technical path for prerecorded material to appear as a live feed; it does not grant blanket permission for every type of content or promise that a continuous stream will remain live indefinitely. See YouTube’s live-streaming methods and encoder guidance.
A live feed is distinct from uploading a video as a regular YouTube video: viewers encounter the material through a live broadcast. Technical ability to send that feed, the right to use its contents, eligibility to earn money from it, and whether YouTube preserves a replay are separate questions.
The official pages reviewed do not state a universal maximum duration for an individual live feed or explicitly guarantee that all 24/7 prerecorded formats are allowed. YouTube’s current guidance does state limits on how many streams may run simultaneously: up to 10 active streams per channel and 3 per stream key. Those are concurrency limits, not a stated duration cap. Check your channel’s current live access and restrictions before planning a broadcast.

Rights and Community Guidelines still apply
YouTube’s livestream terms require live content to comply with the Community Guidelines and make the provider responsible for having the necessary rights to use the content on Google services, including music rights. A recording being prerecorded—or being broadcast from an encoder—does not change those obligations. See the YouTube livestream terms and conditions.
- Confirm you have permission to use the footage, music, images, and other material in the stream.
- Check that the full broadcast complies with YouTube’s Community Guidelines, not just its title or description.
- Do not assume that crediting an owner, buying a copy, or finding material online gives you the rights needed to rebroadcast it.
Access to livestreaming is separate from permission to use a format
For YouTube’s documented eligibility requirements, the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the previous 90 days; YouTube also sets a minimum age of 16 to livestream. Meeting these requirements enables access to the feature; it does not resolve copyright, policy, or monetization questions. See YouTube’s live-streaming access guidance.

Monetization: repetitive loops can be a problem
YouTube’s channel monetization policies apply to content wherever it is viewed, including livestreams. The policy requires original, authentic content and says material should not be mass-produced, generic, repetitive, or manipulative. On July 15, 2025, YouTube renamed its “repetitious content” policy “inauthentic content,” clarifying its application to repetitive or mass-produced material; the underlying originality and authenticity requirement was longstanding. YouTube assesses a channel as a whole as well as individual content. See YouTube channel monetization policies.
A simple loop is not automatically a policy violation based on the guidance cited, but a stream made up of minimally changed repeats, generic automated programming, or templates with little distinct value can put monetization eligibility at risk—especially if the material is primarily intended to accumulate views rather than serve viewers. Make the programming meaningfully original and useful to the audience, and do not treat the ability to go live as evidence that a stream qualifies for the YouTube Partner Program.

Eligible creators may have access to ads, Super Chat and Super Stickers, and channel memberships, subject to the separate eligibility rules for each feature. YouTube cautions that an ad slot is not guaranteed to show an ad to every viewer or at every opportunity. Its report of over 20% average uplift in instream ad revenue per hour for channels that enabled automatic live mid-roll ads compared with channels that did not was a platform-reported comparison across 207 countries in January 2024—not a forecast for an individual creator or a result specific to 24/7 prerecorded streams. See YouTube’s live monetization guidance.
A 24/7 stream may not produce a complete replay
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, but warns that if a stream exceeds 12 hours, it may not be captured at all. The 12-hour figure is an archive warning, not a published maximum live duration. If you need a complete replay, keep a local recording as a backup. YouTube does not guarantee that a particular stop-and-restart schedule will create a complete archive. See YouTube’s archive guidance.

Ways to send prerecorded video as a live feed
Use an encoder
YouTube documents encoder-based streaming alongside webcam and mobile methods. Software encoding is one route; YouTube recommends professional-grade hardware encoders for higher-production events. Its encoder guide references AJA PlayToStream as a way to schedule prerecorded media and send it to YouTube Live. Hardware is optional, and neither hardware nor software changes the rules on rights, monetization, or archiving. See YouTube’s live-streaming guidance, encoder guide, and live-streaming tips.
Plan around the outcome you need
- If your priority is a live broadcast, use a workflow that sends the prerecorded video as a live feed and verify live access on the channel first.
- If your priority is a complete replay, make a local recording; do not count on a single session longer than 12 hours being archived.
- If your priority is monetization, assess the stream’s originality, repetition, and value to viewers separately from whether the encoder can transmit it.
- If your stream uses other people’s material, settle the necessary rights before broadcasting.
Or let it run in the cloud
If your goal is to keep uploaded video live on YouTube without leaving a computer running, StreamNeo runs the stream from the cloud: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. Nothing has to stay on at home; it streams the video as uploaded, up to 4K 60fps, at one price per slot, and automatically recovers if YouTube drops the stream. The first day is free with no card. Monthly pricing is $9.99 per month. Cloud hosting does not grant rights to content or guarantee YouTube monetization or replay capture. Start your free day with StreamNeo.
