You can run a lofi channel that appears live around the clock from India, but a continuous stream is not a shortcut to monetization. Start with music and visuals you created or have documented commercial-use rights to, schedule the broadcast in YouTube Studio, and connect an encoder with your stream URL and key. Build the channel around original, meaningfully varied work: YouTube reviews monetization at the channel level, including live streams, and permission to use music alone does not guarantee eligibility.
What you need before going live
- A YouTube channel with live streaming enabled. If you have not streamed before, allow time for YouTube’s activation process before your planned launch.
- A music catalogue and visual material you made yourself, or written permission that covers commercial use. Keep the source files and rights records.
- A stable way to send video to YouTube: an encoder running on a computer, or a cloud service designed to keep a prerecorded YouTube stream running.
- A session plan. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived; streams longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all.
No particular computer, audio interface, MIDI keyboard, or art tablet is required by YouTube’s encoder workflow. Choose equipment according to how you create and encode your own material.
Clear music and visual rights first
Check the rights for every part of the stream: music, samples, artwork, animation, photographs, and other visual elements. YouTube’s monetizable-content guidance says creators need the necessary rights to commercially use all audio and visual elements. Music from the YouTube Audio Library can be monetized; material found or purchased elsewhere still needs commercial-use rights.
Questions to resolve with a licensor
- Does the license expressly cover commercial livestreaming, not just personal listening or uploads?
- Does it also cover the archived video (VOD), territories where viewers may watch, and the period you intend to use it?
- Are Content ID claims expected, and if so, how are they cleared? Keep written permission and any claim-resolution details.
- Are the visual assets covered by equivalent commercial-use terms?
These are practical checks, not a substitute for the license itself. YouTube’s separate reused-content assessment also matters: a license to use someone else’s work does not automatically make a channel eligible for the YouTube Partner Program.

Make the channel recognizably yours
YouTube’s monetization policies apply to live streams and assess the channel as a whole. The policy calls for original, authentic content and says mass-produced, generic, repetitive, or minimally changed material can be ineligible. A loop can serve a lofi format, but do not assume that continuous uptime or permission to play a track is proof of originality.
Build evidence of authorship and editorial intent
- Develop a distinct channel identity, visual world, and music catalogue rather than relying on a generic template.
- Keep project files, source recordings, artwork files, and rights documentation in case you need to demonstrate how the material was made or licensed.
- Publish original, meaningfully varied supporting videos. Make your channel About text and descriptions clear about who created the music and artwork.
- Review the channel from a viewer’s perspective: its theme, newest and most-viewed uploads, the material responsible for watch time, metadata, and About section should accurately reflect your work.
YouTube Help puts the rule this way: “For your videos or Shorts to be eligible for monetisation, the content must be original and non-repetitious, among other requirements of our YouTube channel monetisation policies.” The wording refers to videos and Shorts; YouTube’s monetization policy page separately says its scope includes live streams.

Schedule and connect an encoder in YouTube
- Open YouTube Studio and go to Live Control Room. Choose the option to schedule or create a stream. If live streaming is not enabled on the channel, complete that step before the broadcast date.
- Set up the event. Enter a clear title and description, select the visibility, and add a thumbnail. Describe the music and visuals honestly and make any relevant authorship or licensing details clear.
- Copy the stream URL and stream key. In the encoder setup shown in Live Control Room, copy these into the matching fields in your encoder. Treat the key like a password: do not publish or share it. If it is exposed, replace it in YouTube Studio and update the encoder.
- Configure the encoder’s video and audio. Use settings appropriate to your source and connection, then start sending the feed. YouTube’s encoder guidance explains the connection workflow; the exact available settings depend on the encoder and stream configuration.
- Check the incoming preview and stream health in Live Control Room. Confirm that picture and sound are present before making the event public or announcing it. If the preview is blank or silent, check the encoder’s selected source and audio input before starting.
- End and schedule the next session deliberately. If an automatic archive matters, make sessions shorter than 12 hours. Keep a local recording when you need a dependable copy; YouTube warns that streams over 12 hours may not be captured.
Use YouTube’s encoder setup guide for the current Live Control Room steps and settings visible to your account. Avoid treating a single stream key as permanent security: rotate it if it is disclosed, and verify the new key is installed before the next session.
Plan an around-the-clock schedule without relying on one archive
A channel can maintain a 24/7 presence through recurring sessions, but one uninterrupted day-long broadcast is a poor choice if you need YouTube’s automatic archive. YouTube says streams under 12 hours can be automatically archived and streams exceeding 12 hours may not be captured at all.

- For archive reliability, schedule repeat sessions that remain under 12 hours and check each completed broadcast’s archive.
- Keep local recordings if preserving the program matters; an automatic archive is not a guaranteed backup for an over-12-hour stream.
- Consider whether repeated public VODs are useful to viewers. A schedule that keeps the live channel available should still leave a coherent channel library.
- Plan how you will notice interruptions and restart a session. Shorter sessions create natural points to check the channel and refresh the program.
What monetization in India requires
India is included in the expanded YouTube Partner Program. The earlier-access tier and the higher ad-revenue tier have different thresholds; meeting a threshold lets you apply, but does not guarantee acceptance. YouTube reviews the channel against its monetization policies and other requirements.
| Program stage | Threshold | What it means |
|---|---|---|
| Expanded YPP earlier access in eligible regions, including India | 500 subscribers, three valid public uploads in the last 90 days, and either 3,000 qualified public watch hours in 12 months or 3 million qualified public Shorts views in 90 days | Can provide access to eligible fan-funding and Shopping features; each feature may have its own requirements. |
| Higher YPP threshold for ad revenue | 1,000 subscribers and either 4,000 valid public watch hours in 12 months or 10 million valid public Shorts views in 90 days | Application threshold for the higher ad-revenue tier, subject to channel review and other requirements. |
YouTube’s YPP eligibility guidance also lists policy compliance, availability in a supported country, no active Community Guidelines strikes, two-step verification, access to advanced features, and a linked AdSense for YouTube account. Check the Earn tab in YouTube Studio for the requirements and status that apply to your channel.
When live-stream watch hours count
Watch hours from live streams that are unlisted, deleted, or not converted to VOD do not count toward the cited public watch-hour requirement. If watch hours are part of your plan, make the streams public and retain their VODs; do not assume that a live audience alone will satisfy the threshold.

Troubleshoot common launch problems
| Symptom | Likely cause | What to check |
|---|---|---|
| The event is scheduled but no picture reaches YouTube | The encoder is not sending, or its stream URL/key does not match the event. | Confirm the encoder is running, recheck the URL and key in Live Control Room, and verify the selected video source. |
| Video appears but there is no sound | The encoder may be using the wrong audio input or a muted source. | Check the encoder’s audio source and levels, then confirm sound in the Live Control Room preview. |
| The stream stops or the connection drops | The sending computer, connection, encoder, or YouTube connection may have interrupted. | Check the encoder and local connection, then restart the feed and verify the event is live again. For a recurring schedule, monitor each session rather than assuming a drop will resolve itself. |
| A long broadcast has no complete automatic archive | The stream exceeded YouTube’s archive window. | Use sessions shorter than 12 hours when automatic archiving matters, and keep local recordings for important programs. |
| A stream receives a music claim or monetization is declined | The rights may not cover the use, or the channel may not meet the separate originality/reused-content review. | Check the license and claim terms, resolve rights issues with the relevant party, and review the channel’s content and YPP status. Permission alone does not settle the channel-level originality assessment. |

Possible later income routes
Google India’s post dated 2023-12-21 described BrandConnect rolling out to eligible creators and selected advertisers. Treat sponsorships as a possible later route, not an assured feature or deal; check current creator tools for individual access. Google, citing Oxford Economics, also reported that over 700,000 creators and partners in India received income linked to their YouTube presence in 2023. That figure is not a success-rate estimate for new lofi channels.
