Start with the error shown in YouTube Studio’s Live Control Room, then check your encoder and outbound internet connection. A stream stopping in India does not by itself identify an India-specific network problem: YouTube’s guidance points to several possible causes, and the right fix depends on whether the stream fails to start or drops after running.
1. Read the stream-health warning before changing anything
Open YouTube Studio and go to the stream in the Live Control Room. Note the exact error or health warning and when it appears. YouTube’s API documentation identifies distinct configuration issue categories, including audio, video, bitrate, framerate, codecs, keyframe frequency, and mismatches between primary and backup streams. It also describes the warning, “YouTube is not receiving enough video to maintain smooth streaming.” YouTube Live Streaming API documentation.
These messages are clues, not interchangeable diagnoses. If the warning names a video or bitrate issue, check the encoder’s output settings before replacing network equipment. If the warning points to an audio, codec, frame-rate, or keyframe issue, inspect that setting in the encoder. Record the message before making changes so you can tell whether a change helped.
2. Check the encoder and the video source
YouTube recommends using the latest version of your encoder, checking how the stream looks and sounds in the encoder, reviewing encoder errors and CPU load, and inspecting the local archive for audio or video problems. Follow YouTube’s live-stream troubleshooting steps.

- Encoder error or high CPU load: Update the encoder if an update is available, then check its error log and whether the computer is under heavy load.
- Picture or sound problems in the encoder preview or local recording: Investigate the source file, playback, or encoder configuration. The preview or archive can reveal source or encoding problems that are separate from the internet connection.
- Encoder output appears healthy: Continue to an outbound connection test. A clean preview does not prove that the stream is reaching YouTube reliably.
If the checks do not reveal a problem, YouTube says trying a different encoder may be worth considering. Its guidance does not name a particular encoder, so check compatibility and support for your setup before switching.
3. Test the outbound connection from the streaming setup
Run a connection test from the computer or device actually sending the stream. YouTube specifically advises checking the strength of the outbound internet connection. If the test identifies connection problems, YouTube directs you to contact your internet service provider (ISP). This step applies to an India-based creator, but YouTube’s guidance does not set an India-specific threshold or establish that Indian networks are uniquely responsible for dropped streams.

If the connection test is healthy but the stream still stops, return to the Live Control Room warning and encoder logs; do not assume that a network change is the answer. The available YouTube guidance does not identify the cause of an individual interruption without its error details and setup information.
4. Replace the stream key only when the startup error points to it
If a third-party encoder reports an error when starting the stream, YouTube’s troubleshooting advice is to create a new stream key in the Live Control Room and update the encoder with it. Treat this as a targeted remedy for that startup error—not a general fix for a stream that runs for a while and then disconnects. See YouTube’s troubleshooting guidance.

If third-party software connects to YouTube through account login without a stream key, YouTube advises contacting that software’s support team when it reports an error. Do not change unrelated settings before identifying which connection method the encoder uses.
5. Check eligibility and limits if you cannot start or restart
A failure to start is different from a live stream that stops after it has been running. For a start or restart failure, check the channel’s live-stream eligibility and active-stream count. YouTube’s setup guidance says the channel must be verified and must not have had a live-streaming restriction in the preceding 90 days. It also states limits of 10 active streams per channel and 3 active streams per stream key. These are YouTube’s current setup limits as described in its live-stream setup guidance; check that page for current rules when troubleshooting.

If your channel is not eligible or a limit has been reached, changing encoder bitrate or buying network equipment will not address that particular start failure. First determine whether the problem is eligibility, a limit, or a stream-health issue.

YouTube documents RTMPS as a secure way to send live data using RTMP through an SSL connection. To configure an encoder, copy the stream key from the Live Control Room and paste it into the encoder, following YouTube’s live-streaming encoder setup guide. RTMPS is a connection method, not a diagnosis or guaranteed cure for a stream that stops; use it as part of the setup guidance rather than as a substitute for checking the actual warning or connection.

7. Match the symptom to the next check

What information will narrow down an individual case?
To distinguish among a YouTube health issue, an encoder or source problem, and an outbound connection failure, note the exact Live Control Room message, the encoder name and version, whether it continues sending after YouTube stops showing the stream, and the timing or pattern of the interruption. Without those details, there is no sound basis to blame a particular ISP, router, stream key, or device.
