How to Stream Relaxing Music With Nature Footage on YouTube Live

To stream relaxing music with nature footage on YouTube Live, use an encoder such as OBS Studio to play local video and audio files, then connect OBS to a YouTube Live event with its server URL and stream key. Before going public, test the exact footage and music in YouTube’s preview. Most importantly, clear both tracks’ rights for livestreaming and archived replay: a license alone may not stop a live interruption if the rights holder has not allowlisted your channel through Content ID.

What you need before starting

  • A verified YouTube channel with Live enabled and no live-stream restriction in the previous 90 days. YouTube’s current guidance sets the minimum age for livestreaming at 16. First-time enablement can take up to 24 hours, so do it before your planned broadcast. See YouTube’s live-stream eligibility guidance.
  • A computer that can play your selected footage and audio while encoding a stream. YouTube supports encoder-based streaming for more involved productions; expensive equipment is not required for this format. See YouTube’s encoder setup guidance.
  • Local nature footage and music whose terms explicitly permit YouTube livestreaming and any replay you intend to keep.
  • A stable internet connection with enough upload capacity for your total stream bitrate plus headroom.

Clear the rights to the music and footage

You need permission for both the audio and the visuals. YouTube’s live-stream terms say creators must have the necessary rights to exploit Live Content and Archived Content on Google services worldwide, including music licensing rights.

Check the specific provider’s terms for live use, archived replay, monetization, geographic territories, edits, and looping. Do not assume that “royalty-free” wording, attribution, prior use in an ordinary video, or availability in a library automatically covers a continuous livestream and its archive. Keep permission and license records.

Ask about Content ID allowlisting

YouTube scans live streams for third-party content matches. If a licensed track is detected, the stream may show a placeholder and can be interrupted or terminated if the warning is not resolved. YouTube advises creators using licensed third-party material to ask the rights holder to add their channel to its Content ID allowlist. A license by itself may not prevent an interruption when the channel is not allowlisted. Read YouTube’s guidance on copyright issues with live streams.

Build the nature-and-music scene in OBS

  1. Install OBS Studio. Download it from the official OBS Project Help Portal. OBS is free, open-source software that can be used commercially; using OBS does not grant rights to your media.
  2. Create a scene and add the video. In the Sources panel, add a Media Source and select your local nature video. OBS documents common local audio and video file support in its Media Sources guide. Enable looping for a single-file continuous scene. If you need a playlist, OBS’s VLC Video source can loop or shuffle a playlist when VLC is installed.
  3. Add and check the music. Add an audio source for your local music file, or use the audio supplied by the video if it already contains the intended soundtrack. In the audio mixer, check that the music is audible without clipping and that no unwanted desktop audio is being captured.
  4. Set the scene to match the footage. Fit the video to the canvas, check that it fills the frame, and watch the transition at the loop point. If you use a playlist, verify the order and transitions before streaming.

For a simple prerecorded scene, you do not need to buy a camera, microphone, mixer, or hardware encoder. Those are useful only when your production actually calls for live capture or more complex inputs.

Create the YouTube event and connect OBS

  1. In YouTube Studio, create or schedule a live event and choose the encoder workflow. YouTube’s current encoder instructions explain where to find the stream URL and key for the event.
  2. In OBS, open Settings → Stream, select YouTube as the service, and enter the event’s stream key and server details if requested by the selected connection method.
  3. Keep the stream key private. It allows an encoder to send video to your event; anyone who obtains it could potentially broadcast to that event. If it is exposed, replace or reset it in YouTube Studio.
  4. Start the encoder and wait for the stream to appear in YouTube Live Control Room. Inspect the preview before starting the public broadcast.

Choose stable video, audio, and bitrate settings

Begin with settings your computer and connection can sustain consistently. YouTube’s encoder guidance lists H.264 video, AAC or MP3 audio, constant bitrate (CBR) encoding, and a recommended two-second keyframe frequency that should not exceed four seconds. Consult the current YouTube encoder settings, bitrates, and resolutions table for the appropriate bitrate for your chosen resolution and ingestion method; resolution-specific recommendations can change.

For upload capacity, YouTube recommends 20% headroom above the total bitrate, including primary and backup streams where applicable. For example, if your combined stream bitrate is 5 Mbps, aim for at least 6 Mbps of available upload capacity. That is a margin above your stream’s rate, not a guarantee: other devices and services sharing the connection can reduce what is available to OBS. See YouTube’s streaming tips.

Test the exact stream before going public

  1. Use an unlisted or private event if that suits your plan, and send the real footage and music through the encoder. A test with a still image or silent file will not reveal the same issues.
  2. In Live Control Room, check the preview, stream health, audio levels, motion, and loop transition. Confirm the event is accessible to its intended audience.
  3. Check that the video is not cropped or stretched and that the audio stays present through the loop or playlist transition.
  4. If you plan to save a local archive, verify that the local recording file is being created and growing as expected.
  5. Monitor the stream while it runs. YouTube recommends checking audio and video continuously, confirming the stream appears on channel or watch pages and mobile, and stopping the encoder after the event has stopped on YouTube. Its computer livestream tips cover these operational checks.

Common problems and fixes

  • Live is not available yet: verify the channel and enable livestreaming in advance. First-time activation can take up to 24 hours; check whether the channel has a live-stream restriction within YouTube’s 90-day eligibility lookback.
  • YouTube shows a copyright warning or interrupts the stream: stop or replace the matched material and resolve the notice. If you have a valid license, contact the rights holder about Content ID allowlisting for your channel; permission alone may not prevent automated interruption.
  • The stream buffers or loses health: lower the resolution or bitrate to a level the computer and connection can sustain, and check available upload capacity while other devices are using the network. Keep YouTube’s recommended 20% margin above total bitrate.
  • The video or audio does not loop as expected: test the source and loop point in OBS before going live. For a playlist, check the VLC installation and playlist configuration if using OBS’s VLC Video source.
  • The preview is silent or the music is too loud: inspect the OBS audio mixer and source routing, then test again in Live Control Room with the actual audio playing.
  • The stream is live but viewers cannot find it: check the event’s privacy and accessibility settings, then verify it on the channel or watch page and a mobile device.
  • The archive is missing or incomplete: check the local recording file during the event and remember that Content ID claims on an archived livestream may occur after it ends.

Or let it run in the cloud

If you want prerecorded nature footage and music to keep a YouTube channel live without leaving a home computer running, StreamNeo runs the uploaded video or playlist from the cloud. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key once, and go live. It plays uploaded videos, not a live camera feed, and streams to YouTube only.
