There is no single OBS bitrate that works for all Indian broadband connections. Set it according to your stream’s resolution and frame rate, then verify that your actual upload connection can sustain it to YouTube. YouTube recommends testing upload bitrate and monitoring stream health; OBS ties bitrate to stable upload speed. A broadband plan’s advertised speed alone does not establish that a connection can hold a continuous stream.
Start with YouTube’s H.264 bitrate recommendations
For H.264 live ingestion, YouTube’s current recommendations are:
| Resolution and frame rate | Recommended bitrate |
|---|---|
| 720p at 30 fps | 3 Mbps |
| 720p at 60 fps | 8 Mbps |
| 1080p at 30 fps | 5 Mbps |
| 1080p at 60 fps | 14 Mbps |
These are YouTube platform recommendations, not measurements of Indian broadband performance or a guarantee that a particular connection will sustain the bitrate. The figures were checked against YouTube’s encoder guide on October 3, 2026; the page does not expose a publication year. See YouTube’s live encoder settings.
Choose the row that matches the quality you intend to broadcast. If your measured upload cannot reliably support the recommended bitrate, reduce resolution or frame rate, or choose a lower bitrate and test the result. OBS suggests 75% of total upload speed as a starting point for bitrate selection, but that is troubleshooting guidance—not a guarantee against jitter, congestion, routing problems, or interruptions. OBS published that guidance on September 30, 2024: OBS stream connection troubleshooting.

- Read Before You Buy — No Video Output: These adapters support charging and USB 2.0 data transfer, but cannot transmit video signals. Except for standard USB webcams (which use USB data only), they are not compatible with HDMI/DisplayPort cables, video-capable USB-C hubs, or docking stations with video output.
- Convert USB-A Ports to USB-C: Designed to connect USB-C earphones, cables, flash drives, card readers, and other USB-C accessories to standard USB-A ports. Plug-and-play with no drivers or software required.
- Aluminum Alloy Housing: Built with a sturdy aluminum alloy shell that aids in heat dissipation and protects against daily wear and scratches. Designed to maintain a stable and secure connection.
- Compact & Travel-Friendly: The ultra-compact design allows the adapter to stay plugged into your device without blocking adjacent ports or adding bulk, reducing wear and tear on your original USB ports.
- 12-Month Warranty: Backed by a 12-month manufacturer warranty for peace of mind. Designed to meet strict quality control standards for reliable everyday performance.
Measure the connection you will actually stream on
The title does not specify your city, ISP, broadband plan, wired or wireless setup, competing household use, or measured upload speed. There is no bitrate that can be prescribed for every Indian connection, and a download-speed result or plan headline is not enough to determine whether OBS can sustain an outbound stream to YouTube. YouTube explicitly recommends running a speed test to check upload bitrate.
- Test upload on the streaming connection. Use the same PC and network you plan to broadcast from. Test at representative busy times, especially if others share the connection.
- Prefer Ethernet. Connect the streaming PC to the router by cable where practical. OBS warns that Wi-Fi may be unstable for streaming. A Cat 6 Ethernet cable can provide the wired link; it cannot fix ISP congestion or a poor route to YouTube.
- Choose a target with headroom. Select a resolution and frame rate whose YouTube recommendation your measured, stable upload can support. OBS’s 75% suggestion can be a conservative starting point, but it cannot account for every route or network condition.
- Run a representative test. Test with movement and audio resembling the intended broadcast rather than relying only on a static image or a brief speed result.
- Watch both diagnostics. Check OBS’s dropped-frame indicator and YouTube’s stream health during the test and after launch. A short successful test does not prove that an ISP route, power supply, or connection will remain uninterrupted over 24 hours.
TRAI material provides broad fixed-broadband context, but it cannot establish the sustained upload available to an individual Indian channel or its route to YouTube ingest. Test your own connection rather than treating a national figure as a personal bitrate recommendation: TRAI reports.

Use a compatible OBS and YouTube encoder setup
For a broadly compatible starting configuration, use H.264, CBR (constant bitrate), and a two-second keyframe interval. YouTube lists H.264, H.265 (HEVC), and AV1 for RTMP/RTMPS ingestion, recommends RTMPS, supports frame rates up to 60 fps, and recommends a two-second keyframe frequency (do not exceed four seconds). Confirm the ingest settings in YouTube’s current encoder guidance: YouTube live encoder settings.
Set OBS’s video resolution and frame rate to the intended output, then select a bitrate based on the corresponding YouTube recommendation and your connection test. The ingest bitrate is the rate OBS sends to YouTube; it is not a promise about the quality every viewer will receive. YouTube transcodes live streams into multiple output formats, while viewer devices and connections vary. If reaching a broad audience matters, consider whether a lower output bitrate would be easier for viewers on weaker connections to play: YouTube live streaming latency and playback information.

Diagnose dropped frames and unstable streaming
OBS says dropped frames indicate the connection may be unstable or unable to keep up with the configured bitrate. A higher bitrate is not a remedy for instability.
- Dropped frames during the test: Lower the bitrate and repeat the test. Confirm that no other household or device activity is consuming upload capacity.
- Wi-Fi connection: Switch to Ethernet if practical; wireless interference or instability can disrupt a stream even when a speed test looks adequate.
- Network software or equipment: Investigate VPNs, security software, router or modem issues, and other network hardware that could interfere with OBS’s connection.
- Possible ISP route or congestion issue: Test at different times and, where available, try a different ingest server. Contact the ISP if the problem persists; lowering bitrate may help with congestion but does not repair its underlying cause.
- Dynamic bitrate: OBS can reduce quality to manage congestion. OBS notes that this does not fix the underlying connection problem, so monitor the stream rather than treating the setting as a long-term cure.
For 24/7 broadcasting, no bitrate in the reviewed platform guidance guarantees uninterrupted operation. A stable test is useful evidence about the connection under those test conditions, not proof of future ISP, network, or power continuity.

Keep the video rights and channel rules in view
Bitrate settings do not determine whether a broadcast is allowed. Before scheduling a continuous stream, make sure you have the rights to every video, soundtrack, and other included material, and review YouTube’s policies for live streaming and monetization. YouTube may act on streams that violate its rules, regardless of how stable the encoder is. See YouTube’s live streaming requirements and encoder guidance and use the copyright safety checklist as a practical review aid.
Or let it run in the cloud
If the goal is a YouTube channel that keeps replaying uploaded documentaries or other recorded videos, StreamNeo is a cloud alternative: upload a recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. It loops uploaded videos; it does not stream a camera or broadcast to other platforms. The computer and home connection do not have to stay on.
